Hits the right buttons for the fans only

I think the movie is to be commended for understanding the joys and highlights of Minecraft, and bringing it to live with vivid visuals and a no-nonsense, fun atmosphere. But in no way it manages to go deep and be a touching and brilliant movie for adults too, like Kung Fu Panda did.

Pretty dumb

What was happening inside the gorge seemed somewhat interesting - I don't know it was so dark - but the rest of the movie, the love story and the whole premise, seemed pretty dumb to me. I didn't buy any of this nonsense nor did I care about the main characters - unrealistic and hollow stereotypes.

Pleasantly weird but not for it's entirety

A tale that shines with the uncomfortable yet intriguing weirdness and peculiar acting that director Yorgos Lanthimos is getting really good at. About halfway, when the story continues in the woods, it kind of lost it's touch and energy, it felt improvised and I can't remember what happened.

A movie that should have struck more chords than it did

Both elements of the story are quite touching, and combining the supernatural with real-life misery of puberty gave it an interesting spin. Yet somehow, the movie just remained floating in the air and I didn't know what to think of it. So maybe the message didn't quiet come across.

so-so

The first half was ok, but the second half turned out so-so. The people he meets are flat and bring nothing interesting to the story, and the story or explanation for the event moves slow and didn't trickle my senses.

Intense viewing but not feeling

While it is a pretty potent thriller/horror with gore, intense footage and remarkable reveal story, I found myself surprisingly unaffected by it. I think it's due the unlikeliness of many scenes, and how it's inhabit by typical movie characters. A bit pointless even?

I am not sure it wants to be horror, but I wish it did

I appreciated the non-Hollywood characters, the passable science and the way the it portrays the quirks of running such a macabre experiment from a home. But considering what's going on, I certainly thought it ought to be way more creepy.

Bravo, they did it

It manages respect and stay close to the game it was based upon, while at the same time acknowledging the needs and different dynamics of live action, allowing the story and characters to breathe - sometimes with quite elaborate and daring side stories. Engrossing and touching.

A fair idea that only meanders a bit

The idea and scenery in itself should have been sufficient for a creepy and mysterious slow burner, but the girls are so drowsy, and the whole story seems a bit insecure, low-energy and incoherent, that it failed to really scare or entertain me.

Missed opportunites

Well these mines certainly provide a haunting location, and positioning it in historic times gave it a promising atmosphere too. Alas, it didn't hold up. The team was a rather unlikable bunch, the cartoon-esque scientist seemed in the wrong movie, the monster was wooden and over exposed.

Almost perfectly disastrous

This was pretty close to being the ultimate accumulation of bad ideas being badly executed into wildly entertaining pulp. But it misses the sweetspot, because it is too self aware and too pleased with itself. Still - keeping an eye out for future adventures of Babebezilla!

Erotic drama that feels like a thriller

I think this is the most intense erotic drama that I have ever seen. Not in softcore sense, but because of the excellent performances, the smooth direction and some scenes that had us nailed to our seats, and snacks coming to standstill in front of our faces, out of pure tension.

Not as traumatic

There is certainly enough here to warrant trauma. But the movie as a whole doesn't have what it takes to tie it all together, and in doing so the horror doesn't hit as it ought to. Acting is so-so, connection to the characters is limited and the story feels clumsy and amateuristic.

A bit tired

All the ingredients for the fans should be in there, but it failed to resonate with me. Her constant smirk started to look weird and overacted. My mind wandered of in some of the emotional scenes and there was a shortage of good jokes and vicarious embarrassment.

The title pretty much tells you what to expect

This mostly a group of people continuously discussing the nature of the threat and ways to deal with it, and I must say they gave their everything in producing a steady stream of mumbo jumbo - only occasionally interrupted by a CGI blob which is then deterred with painted NERF guns.

Very gory and nasty, but it kind of works

Nasty, uncomfortable and violent, with the kind of scenes you pray your fellow house residents don't walk into. For a while I feared it was going to be nothing more that that, but with the background story and personal demons of the killer, they even managed to create some depth to it.

Originally framed but incoherent

I liked the floating ghouls in the first story, and the way the stories connect through bystanders taking over the lead is nifty. Unfortunately the stories aren't that scary and lack coherence. I think it would have worked better if they all made more sense in relation to each other.

A unique idea with a confusing execution. Too bad.

The start is quite promising, and the overall atmosphere and setup is commendable. It's just that the two substories, that take up the majority of the running time, are so disconnected from the main story, that it becomes distracting and unclear what you're looking at.

Good fun if expectations are right

You might argue it is a little raunchy and tacky and you'd probably be right. I mean were are talking stuffed turkey as belly humor. But we got a good time and quite a few laughs out of it.

A deliciously crazy idea that only partially remains standing

I am just so glad that ideas like this exist, and even better yet get turned into a movie. But is has trouble staying close to the magic and craziness of the premise, and instead evolves into a much less inspirational horror/monster flick. Still, thanks for doing this!

Funy and naughty

Although there was something predictable about it, this never really bothered me because the jokes, recognizable characters and embarrassing situations still work, and provide for a good dose of naughty humor with a bite.

Give it some thought

There is a constant tension in the air that is great, even if the behavior of the people involved feels a bit cumbersome and unnatural. In the end I found it a bit simplistic, and it was only after I read about this movie that I became aware of the deeper possible explanations I completely missed.

A suspenseful story lacking some suspense

There is something straightforward about the acting, storytelling and characters that give this movie an honest, non-sensationalist and realistic vibe. But considering what's at stake, the drawback is that it doesn't quite nail the suspense that the premise of this movie warrants.

Scores with novelty but not with involvement

It is to be applauded for the original viewpoint, and delivering a quite effective and entertaining movie with probably little resources. But I do think it could have been scarier and more captivating, and making the mother and son cold and dislikable did nothing but alienate me from this family.

An oddly flavored but hard hitting combination of horror and drama

The calm, soothing music makes this movie feel somewhat like a heartfelt drama that can be tough to watch, but is also touching in a way. But make no mistake. I accumulates in a finale that might leave a permanent mark.

A robot adventure that looks like it works, but doesn't really

It seems to check the necessary boxes: it looks good, has a simple but meaningful story, and loads of wacky robots. But something was missing. Perhaps some really smart robot jokes, characters that really touch you or a script that truly moves you. It's all a bit flat.

A strange, paralyzing horror/thriller

It's a bit hard to follow what the deal is with the groupie, but at the same time the movie locks you in with a sense of dread an anxiety. The nature of the atrocities adds to this, since they are not really shown but are constantly in the air and roam in your mind.

The strangeness is both a good and bad thing here

The characters are so cartoonish, and the story so over the top, that it can't be taken seriously - so all relevance must come from the metaphors and political commentary that undoubtedly are the real essence of this movie. For me, I am not sure that worked.

Unique indian horror fairytale

It starts strong and creepy, then flattens out a bit in the middle, and ends with some unique and magical scenes. All in all, a remarkable and striking fairy tale with some pretty scary stuff but not quite ending up as a full blown horror.

A stylish horror that makes the most of some great ideas

I'd agree that it was kind of slow at times, but for the most part I was rather impressed. The concept of the creature was terrifying. The scary scenes may have been scarce, but what was there gave me shivers I hadn't had for a while.. and I watch horror almost every weekend.

A great story brought with a very articial style

The story is irresistible, but the execution is not. Super flat and clean looking characters that play blatantly obvious and stereotypical roles in the group, artificial and pampering dialogues, and full of scenes with people and events that happen at exactly the right time.

scifi with plenty going for it

With some standout moments, some pleasing twists and an overall original take on some familiar scifi story, I thought this was quite entertaining indeed. With some more gore, depth and/or less young-adults, it could have been even better.

A solid chunk of eigthties' horror cheese

The first part I thought was a bit slow and lacked suspense, but it makes up for it with some pretty enjoyable gore, zombies, bad effects and 80s cheesiness that I somehow have grown to appreciate.

Good horror with a distinct personality

It has a lot going for it. The whole thing is rather creepy and uncomfortable, has some striking characters and unfolds a pretty tense story too. What's more, it has a distinct style and no cheap jumpscares. About halfway through It stalls a bit, but nothing too damaging.

Nice sober scifi/horror with meaning

It's quite a unique story, presented without any hysteria yet still keeping in interesting with a some horror, science fiction and deeper themes. It's a bit too sober and slow-ish to really knock you of your feet, but an interesting movie it is for sure.

I hope the games were better

After falling asleep during four attempts, then by having my phone close by to combat pure boredom, I can finally say that I made it through this. It is all very plastic, artificial, shallow, cold and unexciting.

A good but somehow slightly distant bio

All in all an impressive bio about an impressive person, clearly made with dedication and respect for Lee. Before the haunting last scenes though, I thought it was a bit slow to grab me by the throat. Perhaps because the character is a bit closed and cold, even though that may have been the case.

Fresh series with a unique atmosphere

The atmosphere and tech from the seventies are a great idea, and give these series a unique personality. Storywise it is pretty good too, keeping us curious and ready for more. All in all, good enough to forgive plenty of not so plausible plot points.

Just about interesting enough

The movie is quite sober and slow-moving, but it somehow fits the vibe of the cult, and the mystery surrounding the leader is enough to keep it interesting. That it not to say that there could have been more to it.

Part original, part not

The pool thing is quite refreshing (haha) and overall it's a worthwhile horror. It could have benefited from a more thought out story behind the curse, and the scares lacked creativity.

An interesting but vague scifi puzzler

There is something pleasant about the dreamy mood, relaxed flow and open storytelling. But at the same time this prevents the movie from making a real impact. I am having a hard time remembering it.

Minimalistic

Sometimes I think people underestimate how difficult it is to make an amusing shark movie But having four not so interesting characters sobbing and floating for an hour isn't the way. It's all very minimalistic and forgettable, especially the shark encounters.

Arty and violent revenge

The story is quite straightforward, but it works because there is a good mix of tension, some gore and some classy shots of the desert and people fighting for their life. It's a bit too shallow to deliver a gut punch though.

I think it failed to achieve what is was going for

I can totally see what they were going for: the different world of the night, shocking footage of crime and misery, a muggy atmosphere and erotic tension. While all of this things are here, they are a bit underdeveloped and lacking electricity. Making the journalist a weirdo was not helping.

A gripping drama with some perks that keep it from feeling like one

While the movie gains flair by adding some (mild) horror and comedy elements, it mostly is a drama about motherhood and broken dreams. Not something I'd normally put on, but I am glad I did. Adams is great, her boy Snowden remarkably good, and the whole thing just got me big time.

Perhaps a fair adaptation, but still unable to win me over

The story and execution are interesting enough. But as usual, I find it impossible to really care about the weirdly acting and one-dimensional characters and the drama they display. Oh I wish I could somehow see through this and truly enjoy the wondrous imagination of Manga.

Just about escapes mediocre torture

It starts of as a familiar but uncomfortable torture movie, which I am never quite sure how to rate. Luckily, halfway there is badass animation that lifts the movies' artistic flair, and the story also makes a turn trying to come up with a vague reason for the misery - but at least there is one.

Some possibly interesting ideas won't come to live

I'd really like to sympathize with this for some vaguely interesting concepts and, well, that they made this. But the story feels half-finished, and the movie is slow, clumsy and amateuristic. So much so that it gets in the way of enjoyment

Not so great

Well I guess someone had to try mixing space horror with comedy, but I found it terrible and it felt like a last resort when they realized this film wasn't going to fly. The continuous intercom conversations are weird and tiresome, the action hardly exciting and very 'only in movies'.

Sharp looking nonsense

The core idea is interesting enough, but unfortunately everything else is awful. The characters and acting is hideous, the story a mess. There was something interesting about the way it looked though. Not the design or FX itself, but the crisp colors and sharp lines stood out for some reason.
