First part good, second part amusing but unconvincing action

Initially was quite excited, as this felt like an interesting variation of Falling Down, with a normal man snapping and no longer caring. But then it turns into John Wick mode, where he endlessly escapes bullets from mindless goons - if they shoot at all. This was the lesser part.

Filmnoir with a some absurdity - which I wanted to like more.

Maybe these film-noir type of movies are just not be cup of tea, but I had trouble getting into this, and Pullman, with his single-expression stonerface, wasn't helping. The weird twists and turns were nice though, as was the lovely Arquette. But I felt I was missing something.

Slightly amusing but deserved to be great

This is not a movie I would normally watch, so I'll try to be fair. The story provides fruitful soil for comical situations, a stab at Bali tourism and has room for some deeper explorations. It's all there, it kinda works, but it's also a lukewarm, lacking a sharp script to make it pop.

Some cool graphics served rather plainly

Unfamiliar with the anime backstory, I had to take it as it was. I really liked some of the visuals, and the story was descent enough. But it failed to make a real impact, it all felt kind of flat and 1 dimensional. Some good supporting music was suspiciously absent or mixed in way too soft.

A balancing act

At times I found this mysterious, arty and dreamy slow burner, nicely flavored with a dash of horror and science fiction, intriguing and pretty. At other times I found it pretentious, sleep-inducing and pointless. I suspect most will only find it one of these.

An unnecessary, unremarkable and average starwars show

I did not think it was AS bad as the internet thought it was, but I did think it was extremely average on all counts. Most noticeably, you can only shrug when it's over because it doesn't feel like a starwars story, it didn't need to be, and it doesn't seem to affect it any way.

A solid manhunt

Tension runs high as both the people who hunt him down, as those that try to rescue him, are involved in shady groups and alliances. It's a well made, tense movie with some hefty moments. Ultimately is more a manhunt than a political commentary, which is probably for the better.

A curious and unstelling project that intrigues

The disturbing and intriguing images, presented on extremely deteriorated film with nausea inducing sounds, make this almost unbearable (had to turn down the brightness), which I guess was the idea. I did find that looking at something you don't understand can only last for so long.

A nice idea done nicely

The movie mostly plays out as you'd expect and is reasonably exciting, but nerve wrecking it is not. Similarly, effects and acting are also decent enough, but nothing truly impressive. So yeh, an entertaining, original yet average scifi flick it is.

Execution a bit lacklustre, but what an idea

As a horror, it is kind of so-so. The script lacks finesse to really make us feel the heat, and the characters are not likable enough to care and share the anguish. The idea of it though, is quite sensational, and had me pondering what I what do, so it does give something.

Not everyone thinks it is a masterpiece

Frankly, I was quite surprised at all the praise this movie got. Yes, it looks okay and is probably true to the real Godzilla stuff, but I found the terribly enacted drama in between a slog to get through, the tactics to defeat Godzilla ridiculous and it just wasn't terrifying to me.

A beautiful but unclear trip

A rather unique movie, both in terms of the story and the presentation of it. The characters are sympathetic, the happenings are pleasantly weird and the music is beautiful. But I don't think I really understood the movie, and wonder if it could have been more touching if I did.

This might be the most boring movie I know

If you have no money for sets, it's worth a try to situate everything on a dark cloudy planet and do only closeups. But for that to work, you need great actors and an even better script. Alas, this movie has neither, and turned out to be a torturous boredom fest of people in big helmets talking.

A fair smalltown disaster movie lacking tension

The small town vibes and small group of focus people are quite refreshing, making this disaster movie more relatable and personal than bombastic Hollywood destruction. But I did not find the script particularly inspired, and some of the scenes go on way too long without being tense.

Conversations done right

The movie mixes some philosophy, history and fantasy, but above all is quite a chatty intellectual movie about longing and purpose. But is remains accessible, and never gets heavy handed due to it's lighthearted atmosphere.

Interesting but a little too tame for me

While there is a lot to like, such as the mature atmosphere and the razor sharp visuals, I ultimately was slightly underwhelmed. I thought it could have been bigger and bolder, with more badass music, action and standout moments.

High tension war drama but finding the message may be difficult

The neutral viewpoint of the journalists, and no explanation who is fighting who and why, is a smart move to make this about fear and war, not choosing sides. There is constant tension in the air. The downside of it that I am not really sure what the movie is trying to say.

Why so serious

The main problem is that it takes it's premise rather seriously, which makes all illogical, nonsensical and sometimes preposterous events stick out like a sore thumb. So now it's neither tense shark horror nor a fun spoof.

An even bigger dose of the same. I am slowly checking out.

With the familiar stylistics, even longer John Wick style fighting, and some memorable scenes, this should satisfy the fans. For me personally, I am not sure I was really excited by it, because it is so excessive, and the way the bad guys wait with shooting, or miss, or both, is getting conspicuous.

Decent idea worthy of better execution.

After some snappy titles, a surprisingly strong backstory of the killer, the quality kind of plummets. The main character seems miscasted (I didn't buy her taking up this job), the tension is half baked and the slashing is all a bit so-so. Everything being broadcasted is a nice idea though.

Almost a gem showing budget is secundary. Almost.

While the movie clearly shows a limited budget, some cool space graphics, a well directed landing scene, the future retro space suits and the overall dreamy vibe all generate an interesting atmosphere indeed. A slightly more exciting and tight script could have made it a hidden gem indeed.

Great scifi puzzler

I quite liked these series, as they successfully mix time/dimensional trickery, science fiction, quantum oddities, a dash of horror and some interesting characters played by great actors. It's looking good and the weirdness is pleasing while never becoming convoluted.

Ultimately a disappointment

I found it hard to connect with the characters, who come across over-scripted, over-directed and over-concerned with being handsome. I got tired of the bar scenes where they are clever and witty, and it all comes across as a bit thin, uninspired and done better elsewhere. Even the flight scenes.

Enjoyable brainless action

There are quiet a few problems with this over-the-top flick. Most notably the main character, who is either written weird, played weird, or both. But I have to say, as scifi action pulp I found it quite entertaining and good looking, and it features some of the best mech scenes I know.

A remarkable and effective war story

I found this movie quite effective. The way the soldiers, on their bicycles with a handful of bullets, confront armored tanks almost elicits pity, and the plain way is is shot makes it feel pure and non-sensationalist. Too bad the emotional connection with the guys remains limited.

Embarrassing

A movie that feels so terribly out of date in terms of feel, screenplay and acting that it becomes embarrassing to look at. I read somewhere that it is meant as an ode to 80s mystery shows. Perhaps that would have won me over if the script was worthwhile, but it is not.

There's fun at the bottom end

A preposterous and abysmal movie in every way imaginable, but they made it anyway and somehow that makes it work. I gradually started to dig the humor and puns, and actually had a decent time. Be warned though - after watching this you may conclude that there's something wrong me as well.

An impressive sidequest in the franchise

This time it's a more personal, intimate an detailed story that still fits well in the franchise. It's all very solid en striking, and my emotional involvement with CGI apes was quite remarkable... albeit still not way up there.

Not a rip-off, but not really impactful either

Aside from some lesser jump-scares, this movie manages to more or less set up it's own atmosphere and personality. It's quite sober and pure, and the lead actress does a good job. Unfortunately, it doesn't get really scary or through provoking, and it is unable to reap the creepiness of religion.

Boring and confusing spacepulp

There is some stuff in here that I thought was okay-ish, but this still is a C-class bottom shelve product. The boring and confusing screenplay (which made me doze of several times), the hopeless dialogues and the disjointed (stock?)music are just some of the problems.

A revenge trip low on script

It really is a rather straightforward revenge story, but it is presented with a trippy and artistic flair that gives it depth and some relevance. The usage of animation was really interesting but seemed underdeveloped. More story would have made this better.

A bold and quirky detective, just not for me

These series should win a lot of fans, with a remarkable lighthearted vibe, quirky characters and plenty of small-town detective-work. For me personally, I just wasn't thrilled by it. Everything was too unlikely, convenient and too written out for that. I am not even sure I liked everyone.

A warm and unique spacemovie about relationships

This is probably the exact philosophical, dreamy, oddball, puzzling and emotional relationship movie it needs to be and wants to be. My slight desire for a bit more juice is probably misplaced.

Decent, but outclassed by a slightly similar movie

The developing relationship between the man and his guide reminded my of the movie 'The Covenant', but I was less moved or convinced by this one. Likewise, the action and thrills are sufficient for an exciting watch, but also less slick and less nail-biting than said movie.

A horror scifi classic

After re-watching this classic, I found it was a bit goofy at times, and the story, despite the deep theme, was actually quite plain: they want to get on the ship, then they want to get off. However, this still is one of the best and most entertaining combinations of horror and scifi you can find.

crappy

I knew this was crappy ,but I was hoping it would turn into some amusing goofball entertainment. But is really was just crappy, with long tiresome dialogues ("They may very well be alive, but highly unlikely"), gutless combat and no real sense of being in the future.

Flawed but effective war action

I thought the main hero was a bit of a dissonant cardboard pretty boy, and the uninterested, TV watching ground support team was just preposterous. Other that that, it still is a tense, heart pounding movie, in a way that only war movies seem to tickle me.

A fair but plain future crime story

A fine futuristic crime story providing adequate friday-evening entertainment. I did find everything was a bit plain, lacking energy or a really tight script. It needs a better, less generic title too.

A bizarre gore anarchy

Initially I was wondering if there was going to be any point to this, but gradually the continuous very gory executions, set against this totalitarian society with continuous advertisement for human meat.... somehow began to work. Very rebellious and sickening. For some, that is a plus.

A failure with some nice looking stuff here and there

In the end there was some satisfying space warfare porn, and I like how this movie has it's own distinct look. But other than that this is such a strange failure. 100% flat characters, cringy lines, kitschy slowmotion scenes of grain harvesting, and an overall sluggishness woven throughout it all.

Nice story. Now what we need is a good script.

The premise, including the twist at the end, is decent enough. It's just so dull, long and low budget that I was struggling to stay awake.

An original and pretty good horror

There can be something eerie about many stop motion films, so using it as the basis for a horror is an exciting move. It is well done with stylish and moody imaginary and a good doze of surrealism. Halfway through though, the curve flattens as it sort of goes to autopilot. Still, nice little find

A great idea planted in fruitless soil

What a fantastic idea to make horror about imaginary friends. Unfortunately, this movie had just one moment that impressed me. The rest is a formulaic affair with a badly acting daughter, some stupid lines an characters, missed opportunities and a generic trademark Blumhouse horrormovie feel to it.

An epic epic

This part spends more time on the characters and the tribe rituals, but there is also epicness in large quantities, making this a massive joy to simply experience. But I have to say, there's still something preventing it from truly knocking your socks off.

Uninspired and uncapable

An utterly uninspired attempt to do some more with this franchise. It looses any creepiness early on, only to continue with a tiresome, slow and predictable waste of time.

A pleasant fix of gloomy weirdness

I wonder if it's just because of the black and white that it reminded me of Eraserhead? Or was it also the sweaty claustrophobic cinematography, the insanity and otherworldlyness of it all? Who knows. It's a cult niche thing, but a worthy one for sure.

Not perfect, but loaded with plenty of scifi perks

There were quite a few elements that I found a bit of-putting - mainly that this world cataclysmic event only seemed to occupy a small group of befriended people - but this did not take away from the fact that it is a highly enjoyable scifi epic, loaded with strange stuff and enticing mystery.

A bad movie the way I like 'em

Poor effects, attacking rat puppets that move only because the actors handles them, a nonsensical story, unnecessary nudity and people running through the same hallways over and over. And that's just for starters. But it's all quite quirky and amusing.

A poor but amusing alien clone

Even if it is nowhere near as good, it steals a lot of scenery and creepiness form Alien, which is okay with me. It really is a poor-mans version of said movie, but in a fun and sympathetic way, and it manages to bring in some memorable scenes of it's own.

Another crap shark movie

When the lead is a pumped up bimbo with spot-on make-up even after two deepdives, shot in numerous preposterous shots to show her curves, a movie is pretty much lost. Add crappy acting and a poor script and it becomes hopeless. Two shark attack scenes were surprisingly ok compared to the rest of it.

A beautiful mystery

The things are in fact quite vague, and I am not even sure I understand what was happening. But somehow is doesn't really matter. It is a journey of believable, interesting people that grabs and enchants you, without knowing where it is going.

The secret ingredient was missing

One of those curious cases where everything seems to be in place, yet still something's not quite right, and you can't pinpoint what it is. It is made just fine, but I had trouble getting into it, getting exciting by it, and remembering much of it.

Amateur movie without an x factor

Looks like it was put together in a weekend with a bunch of friends who acquired an alien suite. I was looking for some quirks to make this worthwhile still, but was unable to find any. It's hardly an invasion, but perhaps at this level that doesn't even matter.

Another good idea without a strong script to carry it

The was really promising, with something mystical about the woods as she slowly seemed to loose touch with reality. But the script was very minimalist, almost unsure about what the real story was, leaving a somewhat empty feeling and a finale that felt like an desperate attempt to leave a mark.

Mostly a decent home invasion movie

I liked the idea of a single, cute girl in a dress facing such dreadful odds, and it certainly has some strong scenes and moments. After a while though, I thought it became a bit directionless, and the surreal dreamy ending felt slapped on without really knowing what it was supposed to mean.

A pleasant scif mystery

An amusing scifi thriller with a pleasant mellow atmosphere and enough question marks too keep you attached. Through it's fanatic attempts to deliver unexpected twist, it did become rather far fetched and illogical at times.

Good and gripping

A good war movie with some tense moments, good performances and a gripping story of debt and friendship. I was quite moved by it. Only their perfect aim, especially compared to the Taliban's, was a bit dissapointing.

Pulp that almost wins sympathy, but the amateurism was just too much

When you have no budget, is it foolish or courageous to make an underwater movie? Either way, I was tempted to give this fun borderline amateur movie some credit in all it's cheesiness, but the silly story and Numark audio mixer serving as pilot controls were just too distracting.

A decent single location mystery

A risky movie, featuring mostly a single person in a single location, but I thought it succeeded pretty well in setting up an interesting mystery puzzler, with a dash of scifi. There was room for some more intricacies if you ask me, but all in all good job.

A tiresome, unscary horror with nothing new to offer

The low saturated colors give this movie a somewhat tight and professional look, but that's just superficial. The truth is that it has only a very loose script and tired cliche horror moments on offer. It really got quite boring and stopped being scary early on.

Moving but very comfortless

A very bleak and depressing affair, almost excessively so. You start to wonder if there ought to be some kind of payoff for enduring all of this, but I am not sure there was. But I have to say, I was moved by it.

Stupid movie that pushed the wrong buttons with me

Were the victims in the previous parts also bad humans, getting what they deserved? I can't remember, but I found it far fetched and dumb. I reached a state of irritation, meaning I also found all these traps ridiculous. I mean how much time would each cost to even set up correctly? I'm out.

A unique point of view in a unique movie

The long, sometimes very long, static scenes mean this movie will not be for everyone. But for me, it neatly visualized the endless time ghost exist in, until their unresolved issue is dealt with. I also loved the ghost perspective, and it is quite haunting and even touching at times.

Surely this was more nerve wrecking?

We followed this series with interest, but it felt like it failed to capture the terrifying race against time this must have been. There's a lot of staring, sitting around, hesitation and discussion. An on-point observation about Japanese culture perhaps, but I wonder if it went this way.

A failure

Somewhere in the distance there may be some good intentions, but ultimately this is a failure due to amateuristic direction. It results in loads of random pointless stuff happening for way too long, a lack of a clear story or focus, and not understanding of what makes movies scary.

An irresistably bizarre and unqiue movie

A wildly bizarre but incredibly rich movie, that is beautiful to look at, features amazing characters, is surprisingly funny and is simply unlike anything else - without being arrogant about it.

Not only hard to see, also hard to grasp

With dark and often very closed-up imagery, and depressing and slow flow, it certainly has a ominous and unsettling vibe to it. But I found the story too unclear and vague to make much of it. I am not sure what it was about, and that's not always a good thing.

A pretty and special movie, but it's hard to be moved by it

With every scene set against artificial backdrops of futuristic steampunk, this is certainly a special looking movie with an mysterious atmosphere to match. It's just that the characters are flat as a pancake, and the story and everything else is so boombastic and unrelatable.

A unique but tasty cocktail

A remarkable mix of (hard-hitting) home invasion, fairytale folklore horror and perhaps even contemplations about manhood. Even the tone varies from scene to scene. But all in all, it sort of worked. Not a masterpiece, but highly amusing and quite intense at times.

Another fine romcom with not much else

It's good for a few laughs and some well dosed emotional depth. But that, unfortunately, seems to be the review I end up writing every freaking 'romcom' out there. I wish it would have found away to rise above this.

A fair addition to the tale

My compliments for staying true to the concept, yet finding a story from a new viewpoint, instead of just doing the same movie again (in Barcelona). Overall, it is a pretty tense and entertaining movie, even if it slightly dozes off during the bits between the action.

Great acting and built-up leading to nothing

A movie filled with a solid cast that are a pleasure to watch, and a story that has the sensation of slowly building up to a climax of some sort. But I don't think it did. Instead it left me with a feeling of being cheated, and wondering what I had been watching.

Like always, a really mixed experience

I have a strange relationship with Ghost in the Shell. Most of it I don't follow, and I might fall asleep numerous times during the tech and political babble. But it is also so irresistibly cool and tasty, often with splendid music, that I keep coming back to it. Like this episode.

Scares drowned in annoying team

There is a handful of chilling scenes near the end, but by that time I was too worn-down by the, once again, obnoxious team of selfcontent vloggers. I was getting really tired of the fullscreen close-ups of their sobbing faces, amidst a minimalistic and random story.

Irresitable concept but hard to like

The bizarre story and bloody cartoon violence promised a unique experience, but I found the bears too unlikable and too annoying for this, so it was hard to live the moment with them. The finale partially makes up for it, offering something of a more profound experience.

Ideas were there, movie making skills were not

Near the end of this movie, it features some pretty interesting plot twists and scenery, suggesting that some creative minds were involved. But it contrasts starkly with the rest of the film, which feels very artificial and poorly made, like a cheap TV movie.

A loud movie about a world and people that only exist in movies

I probably should write something like "A daring expose of the decadence and ruthlessness of the inner workings of Hollywood", but frankly I found this a rather loud, unpleasantly over the top movie, with unlikable, unrelatable and exaggerated characters. Pretentious and Oscar hungry.

Boring, messy, silly and not scary

I was already getting bored with exorcism movies, and this is one certainly isn't turning the tables. The only novelty is that there are two victims at once, and three people doing different kinds of exorcisms at once, which turns into a mess, looks ridiculous and none of it seems to do anything.

A thrillride

All in all a really satisfying movie that draws you in by feeding you small chunks of the puzzle without overdoing or spoiling it. Interesting characters, interesting and well paced story.

Perhaps if it had decent stories

The stories consist of computer graphics alternated with (amateur?) actors doing stuff, with no real sense of connection. It's all quite hopeless, even if if the clumsiness of it all almost makes it sympathetic. The truly unforgivable sins were the supervague stories and random sensationalist title.

No drive

I probably shouldn't be reviewing this as I stopped after 3 episodes, but here i am. The core idea is decent enough, but there's absolutely no energy in the story or the way it was told. Cold and bland, the prospect of watching 13 more terrified me. Perhaps the absence of music was part of it.

An uncomfortable subject cleverly twisted into a decent thriller

Although there is obviously necrophilia, the movie manages to keep it watchable without wanting to take a shower afterwards. In fact, it turns into an original and really decent thriller.

The best possession movie I know

The macabre folklore, while slightly weird, gave this a unique atmosphere. The characters are interesting and well acted, and it has some brilliant gut-punch horrorscenes. And finally, it has a constant high tension drive, making it feeling almost like an action movie.

A very trilling home invasion flick, but not for the fainthearted

It's a unpleasant, painful, violent and - especially towards the end - quite gory movie that is probably too much for the most of us. But I have to say, as a home invasion movie it was very tense en gripping, and the feeling of desolation and hopelessness was very well done.

Lacklustre, even for a a shark movie

For some reason big shark movies get a pass for not being of much quality, but even so this one is a bit problematic. There was a lack of inspiration to do actual sharks scenes, so there's a lot of chatty fillers about the environment and vague folklore. Some subplots even seemed abandoned.

found random nonsense

First there's the usual get to know the annoying characters, then for a moment it's slightly interesting, only to then plummet into a mess of unclear, pointless, loud, endless and absolutely RANDOM events thrown at you because noone knew what this was about.

Looks okay, afwul kitch movie

Space rescue can be quite exciting, and this one looks snappy for sure. Unfortunately, it's filled with plastic characters, overacting and turns into a sludge of melodramatic kitsch with tears over piano music.

Moody but a bit too emtpy

With it's moody, grainy colors and images, and continuous dread of the unexplained, this had the potential for being quite an intense, under-your-skin thriller/horror. But unfortunately, the slowish plot and an overall empty feeling ment some of the scares were lost.

Problematic, but the premise may pull you through

Another Netflix endeavor with a mysterious story that is only just able to make you watch the whole thing, but requires you to sit through excruciatingly slow passages and episodes, flat one-trick characters, many dubious plot-points and even some crinche here and there. The twist felt uninspired.

Strong beginning, medium remainders

I liked the beginning the best, as it is quite creepy and unnerving. After that, it looses this and switches to mystery/drama that I found less compelling but quite interesting nonetheless. I read about all sorts of double meanings you could attribute to this movie, but for me it is what it is.

Pretty but lacking interesting characters or plot

On the face of it an impressive epic with neat designs and visuals, but most characters are very flat comicbook archetypes, the story was lacking and felt overfamiliar at places. I'll watch the sequels, but probably won't remember this at all when they arrive.

A fine psychological drama but nothing spectacular

This movie was quite a departure from my usual scifi and horror picks, but I have to say it kept my interest all the way. This is mainly because of the strong lead actresses, and a subtle anxiety woven through the story. But a little bit more spice would have been welcome for me.

Good looking borefest with no story

Much like it's predecessor, there is no shortage of very moody and nicely lit scenes. Also like it's predecessor, there is a serious lack of a story to drive it along, instead it features just people moving extremely slowly from one jumpscare to the next. Remarkably boring.

nasty and cold, but quite interesting indeed

A cold and surreal affair, the kind that pulls of showing rather expliciet sex scenes without being arousing in the slightest, with peculiar acting and dialogues that alienate even further. I found it quite intriguing.

Creepy cult not really creepy

Sure enough, these secluded cults with weird rituals provide some creepiness and anxiety, but I felt that Cage seemed disjointed from it all (running around in a suite for some reason), and the cult almost leaned toward being goofy rather truly scary.

A fair puzzler missing class

Nothing wrong with these low budget movies in a single location, where you'll grow eager to find out how it all came to be. The story is also reasonably well thought out and offers some layers near the end. But I found both the actors and direction missing intensity and depth.

Nice small-town cosmic horror

A nicely done movie with some cosmic horror and mystery, a lovely 'something is off' vibe, good 'rural town' atmosphere and a lead actress who manages to gain sympathy despite playing quite a nasty person. A nice treat indeed.

Could have used some more focus and excitement

I like it when things get sciency, and it goes well with natural presentation and some slow burning. But in this case, it can be a little too dull, and the story lacked a focus. It felt like it invented itself as it went on.

Oscar material and it knows it

A slew of triple A actors are seemingly competing for who has the most acting prowess, almost up to the point of overacting. The story is one of those 'little known story that needs to be told' affairs. Undoubtedly a good movie - but there is something very self conscious and Oscar hungry about it.

Some good scares and ideas in a mediocre mockumentary

This movie captures the potential creepiness of elderly people doing strange things in the dark quite well, and certainly has some striking scenes to offer. But some of the other characters, and most of the unconvincing in-between found footage stuff, bored me.
