Slightly overated but still good

A dark movie that offers some acting fireworks and I loved how the insanity and hallucinations slowly creep in. However, I cannot back up the the high appraisal it received entirely; for that I would have needed it to go deeper, further and darker.

An excellent fix of starwars, mostly good, some bad

I liked it best for it's utter love and understanding of star wars memories, old and new, brought on screen beautifully. Unfortunately, it also retains the utterly useless storm troopers by the dozens, leading to 'authentic' but ultimately unexciting combat. I also found the story very linear.

A beautiful mystery

The things are in fact quite vague, and I am not even sure I understand what was happening. But somehow is doesn't really matter. It is a journey of believable, interesting people that grabs and enchants you, without knowing where it is going.

Refreshingly nasty

With his bad mouth, self awareness, humor and ultra cool action scenes, Dead Pool is a breath of fresh air amidst his unbearably boring Marvel colleagues. Story wise, it could step up a bit though as that felt shallow and plain.

Not for everyone, but definitely for some

You'll need some knowledge of contemporary gaming, the Youtube subculture, and mental preparation for a barrage of restless imagery and hysteric jokes. But if you manage all that, you'll find that it has it's heart at the right place, is enjoyable and sometimes a good laugh indeed.

Refinened horror that mixes several discomforts but remains subtle

A refined, slow and uncomfortable movie that blends the horror with the dread of disease, the feeling of being unable to leave and helplessness. I thought it was really good watching it, but did notice it fading from my memory pretty fast afterwards - usually caused by a lack of standout moments.

Quite unique and fun, not really scary though

While I would have liked these to be more gory and/or scary, I found the first 4 very amusing and fresh spooky tales, with some clever and inspired stories. The final two a bit less so.

Fine heavy duty action

Movies that occur in a single place can feel somewhat cheap. But I quite enjoyed this moody, dark, heavy action flick with some beautiful slo-mo scenes and sounds.

A very decent in between scifi with good ideas

Original science fiction mystery that gradually evolves into an action thriller. It is quite nice indeed, but could have hit harder by exploring this profound premise and what it might do to people mentally.

Nicely done, but minimal

It's lovingly made and compelling throughout, but it is suffering somewhat form the minimal story. Sometimes this leads to a pleasant slowburn pace, but at other times it is struggling to fill up time, with events that seems irrelevant for the overall story.

A painful story that needs to be told

This harrowing story is hard to watch, is made well and made me read into the backstory for sure. It feels inappropriate to even criticize it, but somehow it looses a few points because it really felt and experienced like a movie adaptation, creating some distance/shielding from the true horror.

Survives its many flaws

I wish the superpowers were a little less extreme, the science a bit more refined, the pacing a but more delicate. It's also unfortunate that the superpowers are only used for fighting goons, not something more poetic. Despite all that, it still is a very entertaining, smart and quite a cool movie.

Moody en interesting mystery

It can be a tad sluggish, and I sometimes became frustrated with the incomplete and vague way people talked. Mostly though, the story is intriguing, and the easy going pace combined the Icelandic setting created a lovely, mysterious glow.

Works as a trip

Upon first viewing, I was put off by the apathetic Brad and a bunch of dissonant shenanigans in the story and space tech. But if you manage to just drift along with this dreamy, peculiar and beautiful space adventure, it can be quiet absorbing.

Fine Danish mystery

While not spectacular, this series provides a interesting mystery and characters - all embedded in that lovely Danish vibe: slowish and gray, yet relaxed and natural.

Dialogues not overly succesful, but the rest is

The dialogue can by long, stiff and unnatural. But the wonderful imagery, music, mysterious atmosphere and mesmerizing scenes of future Japan still make it an intriguing experience.

Moody and dark

This horror is carried almost exclusively on atmosphere, darkness, a deep sense of desolation and fear within. It is done wonderfully, it looks very moody and is acted well. At around 3 quarters through I felt a slight yearning for some twist or acceleration, but perhaps it is best without it.

Dark and unpleasant but somehow very relevant too

Darker than the previous one, (even) more difficult to digest too. But something about it feels relevant and it is quite an intense experience that keeps you gazing in awe.

A fun ride if you can handle it

I should probably be complaining about the violence, lack of character development (yawn) and that how you'll get dizzy and exhausted from the restless camera. But I actually had a blast watching this. It is different, cool and highly entertaining.

A strange disaster movie about communication

This movie has seemingly normal, recognizable people in a seemingly familiar disaster movie, but something is off and strange throughout. It's mostly the dialogues, that seem to make a statement about how we (don't) communicate and are disconnected from each other. Remarkable but satisfying.

Good WW2 movie with a dash of mystery

An intense and sometimes gruesome looking WW2 flick that can be a bit slow at times, but compensates with a nice mixture of mystery, war, interesting characters and a diverging but well done ending.

Nice small-town cosmic horror

A nicely done movie with some cosmic horror and mystery, a lovely 'something is off' vibe, good 'rural town' atmosphere and a lead actress who manages to gain sympathy despite playing quite a nasty person. A nice treat indeed.

Light hearted drama that is actually worth a watch

Sympathetic movie with a touching story based on true events (including the dubious role of the catholic church in child adoptions in Ireland), and very convincing acting by Judi Dench. Ideal movie for men who want to show their partner they actually have a sensitive side as well....

Minimalistic but not

The cinematography is as sober and plain as the cult members live their lives. It's almost a collage of images and unspoken emotions instead of a traditional story, but you still can feel the revolution building up beneath the skin. Good.

A bold idea done pretty well

A bold and interesting idea, but will looking at the same confined woman for an entire movie be interesting enough? During the first half I wasn't sure, but then it comes up with enough twists and some impressive shots to make it work. Not by a huge margin, but certainly enough.

Impressively acted drama

A small, uncomplicated story that works because of slew of actors at the top of their game and an intimate, delicate atmosphere. It never becomes over-dramatic and it dares to be quite and just let the silence, expressions and stares speak for themselves.

Effective and subtle

There's something small and simple about this oddly titled horror, which makes it subtle, intimate and quite intriguing. There's not much standard horror mayhem, but rather a sense of discomfort and mystery. Quiet nicely done, I must say,

A strangely presented and dark tale, that gets to you nonetheless

I needed some getting used to the stiff, strangely brought dialogues from some characters, but eventually this added to a uncomfortable, disconnected, but intriguing atmosphere. The boy's behavior really makes you anxious, as does the dark story as whole.

Simple idea brought to live succesfully by Carrey's skills

Carrey is at the top of his game here, and whether you like his style or not, the way he puts it down really was very funny and unique to me. This movie has a sense of fun and flow that modern comedy's lack. Even the inevitable moral to it all is actually (and luckily) quite restrained.

competent

A competent mix of horror, thriller and drama that's different and refreshing, and has several satisfying plot twists on offer. The 'rewinding' sounds and sights seemed below the class of this movie, but that's about it.

Original and exciting ride

While the zombie behavior seemed a little outdated and borderline caricature, this movie offers a lot of thrilling and quite original scenes that kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.

It can be liked!

Apparently I am the only one who likes this movie. But heck: it's an exciting story, the performances are fine and it contains some terrifying and unrivaled footage of disasters. I even liked the ending too, it is pretty!

Cool man

A stylish, fresh movie with some very cool fighting scenes and a nice mix of sci-fi, action and some humor.

Tremendous fun and adventure. A success.

Me and my wife agreed that the balance between action/chase scenes and supernatural historical mystery could perhaps be opposite of what it is, but this is entertaining and fun, pretty much the way it should be. Whether it truly has lasting standout moments, I am not sure.

A good movie about something bad

Needless to say a rather depressing affair, but it isn't dwelling in it's misery. There's a (intentional?) contrast with the sunny beach, mellow light and ordeal that is taking place. The developing relationship with the ruthless captain and the boys worked for me.

A strange but tasty slowburner

A well-acted and mysterious flick that makes you sense something is wrong way before it is. It is slow and without a manual, but near the end you wind up so clueless that it leaves a slightly unrewarding feeling though.

Gorgeous to look at, with really decent shark terror as well

This is beautifully shot and was made with much finesse. At times, the imagery of the ocean feels like living paintings. Acting and thrills are also good, making this one of the better sharks movies out there.

I quite liked this

This worked remarkably well. It uses the superman foundation but takes it a whole new direction with tasteful suspense, some horror, some scifi and nice characters whilst still keeping it compact and intimate.

Mean and original

Apart from a slowish middle section, it's a wicked, smart and playfull timetravel movie.

Good satire with an undertone

It's basically an amusing political commentary that is is exaggerated and sensational on the one hand, but uncomfortably recognizable and realistic on the other.

Stylish and focussed

Instead of getting overly smart with the premise, or making it a gimmicky science fiction, it keeps focus on the main story and a few central characters, and makes it all very classy, mysterious and sometimes dark movie indeed.

A little scifi gem

It's a bit campy and occasionally borderline B-movie-ish. But it never crosses that line, instead delivering many memorable and well done scifi moments, some great designs and humor that works.

The Tarantino of highschool movies

The constant and lengthy foul-mouthed dialogues and contemplations create an atmosphere reminiscent of Tarantino movies. It's kind of like an adult version of highschool movies. Cool.

A reboot done well, good stuff for the fans

Clearly made with much love and respect for the original, with no Americanism in sight. Effects strike a balance between the original feel of the movies and modern techniques, without drowning in CGI coldness. The bureaucratic struggle to get anything done in time was a nice framework.

Clever survival story

Although the numerous flashbacks sometimes get in the way of the action, they are also a clever way too tell a survival story in a broad sense of the word. I guess it makes sense that you spend a lot of time with your thoughts in a situation like this. Nice.

A very decent sci-fi action thriller.

If you manage to NOT see this as a reboot, it's a fine sci-fi action flick with some great designs.

If you see it you might need therapy also

A weird ass trip of the first kind, in which you mostly have to figure out for yourself what to make of it as you are being sedated by the psychedelic colors and imagery. Its crawling pace is both a strength and weakness. Not for everyone, but I was quite hooked indeed.

A pleasant mystery

The mystery of not quite getting what is going on really adds to suspense and intrigue and this stylish scifi. Low profile in an effective way, but the many long scenes can be a bit much at times.

Bit weird and unsettling, but nevertheless interesting and sensual

A must see for those interested in original alien movies, Scarlett Johansson, or both. Partially filmed with standard digital cameras, providing a successfull hidden camera experience. Visual effects from the eighties and creepy sounds throughout the movie provide the cherry on top.

Touching and intimate parenthood story with a cool context

I was lured into this by Eva Green, space and the awesome trailer music (which shadows Ryuichi Sakamoto's slightly lazy soundtrack). But what is is mostly is a struggle of career, dreams and parenthood, and a pretty good one at that. But I still want a 'real' Eva Green space movie.

A cool anime deserving a better title

This oddly titled anime features some beautiful and moody drawings, exiting action, great music and snappy sound effects. On top of that, the story has some depth and interest, so this added up to a rather enjoyable package.
