An excellent fix of starwars, mostly good, some bad

I liked it best for it's utter love and understanding of star wars memories, old and new, brought on screen beautifully. Unfortunately, it also retains the utterly useless storm troopers by the dozens, leading to 'authentic' but ultimately unexciting combat. I also found the story very linear.

A beautiful mystery

The things are in fact quite vague, and I am not even sure I understand what was happening. But somehow is doesn't really matter. It is a journey of believable, interesting people that grabs and enchants you, without knowing where it is going.

Refreshingly nasty

With his bad mouth, self awareness, humor and ultra cool action scenes, Dead Pool is a breath of fresh air amidst his unbearably boring Marvel colleagues. Story wise, it could step up a bit though as that felt shallow and plain.

Not for everyone, but definitely for some

You'll need some knowledge of contemporary gaming, the Youtube subculture, and mental preparation for a barrage of restless imagery and hysteric jokes. But if you manage all that, you'll find that it has it's heart at the right place, is enjoyable and sometimes a good laugh indeed.

Refinened horror that mixes several discomforts but remains subtle

A refined, slow and uncomfortable movie that blends the horror with the dread of disease, the feeling of being unable to leave and helplessness. I thought it was really good watching it, but did notice it fading from my memory pretty fast afterwards - usually caused by a lack of standout moments.

Quite unique and fun, not really scary though

While I would have liked these to be more gory and/or scary, I found the first 4 very amusing and fresh spooky tales, with some clever and inspired stories. The final two a bit less so.

A very decent in between scifi with good ideas

Original science fiction mystery that gradually evolves into an action thriller. It is quite nice indeed, but could have hit harder by exploring this profound premise and what it might do to people mentally.

Nicely done, but minimal

It's lovingly made and compelling throughout, but it is suffering somewhat form the minimal story. Sometimes this leads to a pleasant slowburn pace, but at other times it is struggling to fill up time, with events that seems irrelevant for the overall story.

A painful story that needs to be told

This harrowing story is hard to watch, is made well and made me read into the backstory for sure. It feels inappropriate to even criticize it, but somehow it looses a few points because it really felt and experienced like a movie adaptation, creating some distance/shielding from the true horror.

Moody en interesting mystery

It can be a tad sluggish, and I sometimes became frustrated with the incomplete and vague way people talked. Mostly though, the story is intriguing, and the easy going pace combined the Icelandic setting created a lovely, mysterious glow.

Works as a trip

Upon first viewing, I was put off by the apathetic Brad and a bunch of dissonant shenanigans in the story and space tech. But if you manage to just drift along with this dreamy, peculiar and beautiful space adventure, it can be quiet absorbing.

Fine Danish mystery

While not spectacular, this series provides a interesting mystery and characters - all embedded in that lovely Danish vibe: slowish and gray, yet relaxed and natural.

Dialogues not overly succesful, but the rest is

The dialogue can by long, stiff and unnatural. But the wonderful imagery, music, mysterious atmosphere and mesmerizing scenes of future Japan still make it an intriguing experience.

Moody and dark

This horror is carried almost exclusively on atmosphere, darkness, a deep sense of desolation and fear within. It is done wonderfully, it looks very moody and is acted well. At around 3 quarters through I felt a slight yearning for some twist or acceleration, but perhaps it is best without it.

Dark and unpleasant but somehow very relevant too

Darker than the previous one, (even) more difficult to digest too. But something about it feels relevant and it is quite an intense experience that keeps you gazing in awe.

Mean and original

Apart from a slowish middle section, it's a wicked, smart and playfull timetravel movie.

A fun ride if you can handle it

I should probably be complaining about the violence, lack of character development (yawn) and that how you'll get dizzy and exhausted from the restless camera. But I actually had a blast watching this. It is different, cool and highly entertaining.

A little scifi gem

It's a bit campy and occasionally borderline B-movie-ish. But it never crosses that line, instead delivering many memorable and well done scifi moments, some great designs and humor that works.

A very decent sci-fi action thriller.

If you manage to NOT see this as a reboot, it's a fine sci-fi action flick with some great designs.

A pleasant mystery

The mystery of not quite getting what is going on really adds to suspense and intrigue and this stylish scifi. Low profile in an effective way, but the many long scenes can be a bit much at times.

Bit weird and unsettling, but nevertheless interesting and sensual

A must see for those interested in original alien movies, Scarlett Johansson, or both. Partially filmed with standard digital cameras, providing a successfull hidden camera experience. Visual effects from the eighties and creepy sounds throughout the movie provide the cherry on top.

A strange disaster movie about communication

This movie has seemingly normal, recognizable people in a seemingly familiar disaster movie, but something is off and strange throughout. It's mostly the dialogues, that seem to make a statement about how we (don't) communicate and are disconnected from each other. Remarkable but satisfying.

Good WW2 movie with a dash of mystery

An intense and sometimes gruesome looking WW2 flick that can be a bit slow at times, but compensates with a nice mixture of mystery, war, interesting characters and a diverging but well done ending.

Nice small-town cosmic horror

A nicely done movie with some cosmic horror and mystery, a lovely 'something is off' vibe, good 'rural town' atmosphere and a lead actress who manages to gain sympathy despite playing quite a nasty person. A nice treat indeed.

Minimalistic but not

The cinematography is as sober and plain as the cult members live their lives. It's almost a collage of images and unspoken emotions instead of a traditional story, but you still can feel the revolution building up beneath the skin. Good.

A bold idea done pretty well

A bold and interesting idea, but will looking at the same confined woman for an entire movie be interesting enough? During the first half I wasn't sure, but then it comes up with enough twists and some impressive shots to make it work. Not by a huge margin, but certainly enough.

Still too much Hollywood for it's own good

Big and bold monster rampage is the easy part, making it count is hard. Some surprisingly stylish scenes are overshadowed (I think it had two artdirectors) by the usual movie laziness en cliches - like people constantly briefing each other about things everyone's already doing. A fun ride though.

Impressively acted drama

A small, uncomplicated story that works because of slew of actors at the top of their game and an intimate, delicate atmosphere. It never becomes over-dramatic and it dares to be quite and just let the silence, expressions and stares speak for themselves.

Effective and subtle

There's something small and simple about this oddly titled horror, which makes it subtle, intimate and quite intriguing. There's not much standard horror mayhem, but rather a sense of discomfort and mystery. Quiet nicely done, I must say,

A strangely presented and dark tale, that gets to you nonetheless

I needed some getting used to the stiff, strangely brought dialogues from some characters, but eventually this added to a uncomfortable, disconnected, but intriguing atmosphere. The boy's behavior really makes you anxious, as does the dark story as whole.

Simple idea brought to live succesfully by Carrey's skills

Carrey is at the top of his game here, and whether you like his style or not, the way he puts it down really was very funny and unique to me. This movie has a sense of fun and flow that modern comedy's lack. Even the inevitable moral to it all is actually (and luckily) quite restrained.

competent

A competent mix of horror, thriller and drama that's different and refreshing, and has several satisfying plot twists on offer. The 'rewinding' sounds and sights seemed below the class of this movie, but that's about it.

Should have been even funnier

The whole idea is so outstandingly funny that I couldn't help feeling somewhat disappointed. But it IS funny.

Original and exciting ride

While the zombie behavior seemed a little outdated and borderline caricature, this movie offers a lot of thrilling and quite original scenes that kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.

It can be liked!

Apparently I am the only one who likes this movie. But heck: it's an exciting story, the performances are fine and it contains some terrifying and unrivaled footage of disasters. I even liked the ending too, it is pretty!

Cool man

A stylish, fresh movie with some very cool fighting scenes and a nice mix of sci-fi, action and some humor.

Tremendous fun and adventure. A success.

Me and my wife agreed that the balance between action/chase scenes and supernatural historical mystery could perhaps be opposite of what it is, but this is entertaining and fun, pretty much the way it should be. Whether it truly has lasting standout moments, I am not sure.

Succesful absurdity

Successfully achieves an uncanny atmosphere without over relying on effects, instead setting an ominous mood with black and white tones. I also dig the usage of a superhappy place for something twisted to evolve. Quite exciting.

A good movie about something bad

Needless to say a rather depressing affair, but it isn't dwelling in it's misery. There's a (intentional?) contrast with the sunny beach, mellow light and ordeal that is taking place. The developing relationship with the ruthless captain and the boys worked for me.

A strange but tasty slowburner

A well-acted and mysterious flick that makes you sense something is wrong way before it is. It is slow and without a manual, but near the end you wind up so clueless that it leaves a slightly unrewarding feeling though.

Awesomeness, but did not leave me in awe

It's a beautiful grandiose piece of work. But somehow I was looking at it more than I was experiencing it. And why are these whining hobbits the chosen one? And why didn't Gandalf summon those giant birds earlier, to get them there immediately? WHYYY.

Gorgeous to look at, with really decent shark terror as well

This is beautifully shot and was made with much finesse. At times, the imagery of the ocean feels like living paintings. Acting and thrills are also good, making this one of the better sharks movies out there.

I quite liked this

This worked remarkably well. It uses the superman foundation but takes it a whole new direction with tasteful suspense, some horror, some scifi and nice characters whilst still keeping it compact and intimate.

Good satire with an undertone

It's basically an amusing political commentary that is is exaggerated and sensational on the one hand, but uncomfortably recognizable and realistic on the other.

Stylish and focussed

Instead of getting overly smart with the premise, or making it a gimmicky science fiction, it keeps focus on the main story and a few central characters, and makes it all very classy, mysterious and sometimes dark movie indeed.

The Tarantino of highschool movies

The constant and lengthy foul-mouthed dialogues and contemplations create an atmosphere reminiscent of Tarantino movies. It's kind of like an adult version of highschool movies. Cool.

A reboot done well, good stuff for the fans

Clearly made with much love and respect for the original, with no Americanism in sight. Effects strike a balance between the original feel of the movies and modern techniques, without drowning in CGI coldness. The bureaucratic struggle to get anything done in time was a nice framework.

Beautiful failure

Shattering beauty in an exciting alien universe - badly damaged by an unlikely crew doing unlikely things in a scenario full of WTF-moments.

Clever survival story

Although the numerous flashbacks sometimes get in the way of the action, they are also a clever way too tell a survival story in a broad sense of the word. I guess it makes sense that you spend a lot of time with your thoughts in a situation like this. Nice.

If you see it you might need therapy also

A weird ass trip of the first kind, in which you mostly have to figure out for yourself what to make of it as you are being sedated by the psychedelic colors and imagery. Its crawling pace is both a strength and weakness. Not for everyone, but I was quite hooked indeed.

Touching and intimate parenthood story with a cool context

I was lured into this by Eva Green, space and the awesome trailer music (which shadows Ryuichi Sakamoto's slightly lazy soundtrack). But what is is mostly is a struggle of career, dreams and parenthood, and a pretty good one at that. But I still want a 'real' Eva Green space movie.

A cool anime deserving a better title

This oddly titled anime features some beautiful and moody drawings, exiting action, great music and snappy sound effects. On top of that, the story has some depth and interest, so this added up to a rather enjoyable package.

I you love to hate him, you'll love this

Maybe not quite as unbearable as The Office, this movie still provides a fresh dose of the self-torture, cringing, laughing, shame and gasping that come with watching this man at work.

Nice, but not all the way

A very charming, sympathetic and occasionally very sexy movie. The atmosphere of these teenagers plowing through the night is neat. Unfortunately, it can't maintain the magic all the way through, and even deteriorates some of it with dissonant elements like the soccermatch and kung-fu kid.

A bold slaughterfest with eighties vibe

There's plenty of shock value, with executions that are bloody and painful the watch. They also managed to set up an eighties vibe by the colors used, and perhaps even the acting style. But I also felt is was a bit long and pointless.

Just fine

A wholesome and warm feelgood movie that is hard to fault. The Italian setting and vibe is a nice extra touch which gives it some personality and validity. Can't say much bad about it really, although personally I would have liked a bit more edge and risk.

Good one

A pleasing mystery horror that builds well on the intimacy and isolation of the couple, and reels you in as the mystery increases but hardly resolves.

Good, suffering somewhat from a clear story

I had a hard time describing and remembering the story, which illustrates it's main problem: there's a lack of focus or a clear narrative, and several ideas, like Moloch himself, feel thrown in. Still, there is an awesome setting, it has pleasant, natural characters and plenty of worthwhile moments.

Pretty fly

Some characters can be a bit manga-crincy as expected (especially the women), but it has stuff to make up for it: exciting space battles and weaponry, a well developed atmosphere, and very imaginative, strange and impressive (dare I say scary?) gauna monsters indeed.

Quite creative

I am still not sure if I fully grasp the story, let alone summarize it properly, but this is a rather interesting horror with plenty of worthy moments. It uses some well known horror elements but uses them to built a creative and refreshing story with.

Still a a bizarre and tatsy nugget

I can see how this blew people's minds to become a cult classic of surreal body horror. Nowadays some of the shock value is gone, but it is still a unique, weird and unsettling experience... all in a good way of course!

Intriguing and very well acted

It beautifully showed how this single event was slowly infecting and spreading like disease in their marriage, courtesy of the textbook acting and gentle pacing and camera work. One of those movies I didn't plan on watching, but couldn't stop once I did.

Okay these guys are tough

As these men are battered & bruised, smashed against rocks, cornered and shot, the increasing dread of death and hopelessness comes across very well. Intense movie that stuck for a while.

Shoot 'em up between navy seals and taliban

Main part of the movie consists of Americans and Taliban chasing, shooting, injuring and killing eachother. Apparently a navy seal can sustain more injury than Iron Man ("is there a bullet in my head?"). Overall an okay movie for those of us not easily scared by bloody scenes.

Over the top science fiction action movie (in a good way)

A bit too much of everything, but somehow just right because of that!

Take some time to let it sink in, and start enjoying

Not familiar with this comic, I feared I'd never get into this unexplained stream of weirdness. But the humor, vivid space combat action and sympathetic characters grew on me and left me quite entertained indeed.

The core of the franchise

The story serves as a carrier to deliver oodles of John Wick-style fights and not much else. It can be a bit too much and absurd at times, but I must say there is also something mesmerizing and satisfying about these endless, beautifully choreographed, flowing violent dances of death.

More of the same

I could see all the things I loved about the original, yet I felt a bit indifferent about it without knowing exactly why. I guess it really is more of the same, which - even if that means more of a good thing - means the initial excitement is not here. But hey: it's still a dazzling lego movie!

An African American living in New york is kidnapped and sold as slave

Based on a true story addressing the gruesome consequences of slavery in the southern states of mid 19th century America. Although I can appreciate this movie and the message it portrays, there are other movies on this topic that I find more memorable.

Far-fetched plots also have side effects

Good, but as the story becomes more and more unbelievable, your involvement in this movie wears off.

Decent for sure, but somehow didn't really land

I quite like how it is built around more personal and intimate stories of several people involved, and was impressed by the glider footage. However, it suffers a bit from the "we have just a few sets and locations" sensation of smallness, and somehow it didn't really pack a punch emotionally.

A pleasant scif mystery

An amusing scifi thriller with a pleasant mellow atmosphere and enough question marks too keep you attached. Through it's fanatic attempts to deliver unexpected twist, it did become rather far fetched and illogical at times.

Appealing forbidden fruit, but did not fill me up

I dig this strange word, including the body horror and filth, simply as break from the mainstream. But I did not find it really engaging. Perhaps because we are simply thrown into the weirdness without a narrative, but more importantly the characters themselves seemed apathetic about it too.

Novel en successful idea approach to a horror flick

Probably a rehash of part 1, but since I have not yet seen that, I will honor this one for the brave, effective and chilling way of telling a horror story. The actual events and pacing are a bit under powered for it to become truly terrifying, though.

Familair but with it's own sauce

Story wise it is familiar material, but the scares are quite subtle and less hysteric than usual. I liked the Spanish vibe on this and especially the three kids were great. But why it's hailed as one of the scariest movies ever made, I have no idea. The music sounds outdated and isn't helping.

Succesful slasher

While I suspect fans of the original have plenty to complain about, in itself I found this to be a fairly solid slasher movie. It has some good gore, and the tension in some scenes is well done and certainly above average.

Over aware of it's uniqueness

A courageous and unique movie that dares to be different and strange. Beautiful and meaningful on the one hand, but hardly subtle as the symbolism is sort of rammed damned your throat and feels slightly too pleased with itself.

Frantic fun

A bubbly and perky move that is good for a few laughs. It is really up to date with internet fun, memes and mobile phone lifestyle (So it will be obsolete a few years from now). Like other Sony movies, such as Hotel Transylvania, it is very fast and hysteric, sometimes tiring me down.

Not brilliant, but has plenty of tricks to make it work

People weren't to keen on this comic adaptation, but I am quite ok with it. There's a special kind overacting that seems just right for a movie like this, I liked the dark theme and some of the fx, the clown is just awesome and the movie simply entertains.

More interesting than scary

A combination of natural acting and convincing effects create some effective WTF moments. Well done, but it wasn't really scary - mostly because they seem sort of ok with the transformation.

More clean and comprehensible, but at the cost of atmosphere

I enjoyed another round of the adventures of this fabulous team. There is plenty of cool stuff in there, and I could actually follow the story this time. The graphics however, while crisp and clear, are also a bit lifeless, and the major somehow lost her mojo for me - even if she is an android.

Ultrapainful and hard to watch, with no payoff or clue to any of it

I was never drawn to torture movies, and by God I hope this is the most painful one in existence. I am giving this 7 points for it is not necessarily badly made, it managed to rattle me inside, made me look away and almost made me give up entirely. But that does not mean I recommend viewing it.

Over the top in a nice way

I don't buy many aspects of the story, but I enjoyed it anyway!

Good old fashioned suspense

An reasonably intense thriller with a constantly high adrenaline level, and a pleasant 'old fashioned' simplicity of execution. Near the end they go a little overboard with the whodunnit game, and the far fetched motives and plans of the terrorist are yeh-right.

A sober and intriguing tale

This movie is at times very good looking - some of the indoor shots look like paintings - which help to set the mysterious mood. The story is intriguing enough. Part of me likes the fact that they kept it simple, fitting with the lives portrayed, another part wishes it had an extra layer or twist.

Something borrowed, something new

Although it uses some familiar ideas and scares, it also manages to have a story and atmosphere of it's own. Nothing spectaculair perhaps, but certainly a well rounded package and decent horror at that.

Sympathetic, fun and over the top

Like many superhero movies, it gets a bit too much and over the top as it moves towards the end (drum playing octopus did it for me) But I must say this has a heart at the right place, Aquaman and others were very likable, and overall it's an unpretentious fun adventure I enjoyed.

Not bad for such a wuzz

It lacks soul like i have. In the end, it is human decision making that settles things.

Could have been better meow

This movie needed more latex I could have privided, as well as more meow. Anywway this review is a bit on the long side for testing purposes.

Decent, but left a slighly unfinished feeling

Without overreaching within a limited budget, this manages to setup quiet a modest but enticing story and mood to make you curious. It can be a bit sluggish though and, while I find the open ended nature fitting, it did feel like it was a a bit insecure about it's own plot and meaning.

A heavy, deeply uncomfortable, depressing affair.

If you manage to finally make it through the rape scenes, the next endurance test is full frontal torture, slightly more bearable because of the payback. I thought the complicated torture setups deployed seemed overly elaborate, prone to errors. But how can we rate movies like this? A 7 perhaps?

Strong beginning, medium remainders

I liked the beginning the best, as it is quite creepy and unnerving. After that, it looses this and switches to mystery/drama that I found less compelling but quite interesting nonetheless. I read about all sorts of double meanings you could attribute to this movie, but for me it is what it is.

Not all I hoped, bit I still liked it

Part of me wished it was more about the discovery itself, part of me wished it was deeper en creepier, but the rest of me was quite pleased with the sober, depressing and character based-approach that still manages to intrigue and serve a satisfying climax.

Fine espionage

A decent, classic espionage action flick. It is a bit low on standout moments though, and the cockiness and skills of the main character can be too much at times.

A modest horror with it's own style, but a bit thin on substance

This is a nice, modest mystery with a dash of horror but nothing hysteric. The atmosphere is moody and the central theme of eating and food is lain out well. However, it is dangerously close to being rather uneventful, and can feel kind of improvised as it tries to reach the end.

A fine horror that manages to set itself apart

Although it does not offer anything radically new - but which horror does - the intimate atmosphere, the genuine characters and a tendency towards true tension over cheap jump scares (of which there are some), make it a worthwhile little horror. But geez, go easy on the cute baby sounds.

Entertaining blood fountains

For the most part I was very entertained by the bizarre atmosphere and blood fountains. It's a nice doze of insanity that is so over the top you can enjoy without remorse. After a while though, it did get a bit pointless and clueless.

Original, funky and violent

A mixture of some pretty grim action and violence with 'hip' characters, music and wacky titles. For a moment I was afraid the latter was a mask to hide mediocrity, but I have the say Mikkelsen's oodles of charisma, as well as a decent plot twist at the end, make it rise above the norm.

Solid chemistry but forgetable

A solid action comedy with good chemistry between the main players. It lacks standout moments though, I have already forgotten this movie.

Very decent scifi with a nice twist

All in all this was quite classy and stylistic most of the time, and it has a satisfactory twist as well. It does, however, dwell in certain scenes, and features some horrible cliches like a little girl risking everyone's lives to get her teddybear. Ugh.

It mixes a lot of themes with varying levels of success. There's horror, but also humor, mystery and sometimes it's almost a children's movie. Likewise it is mixed in quality. Sometimes creative and intense, but quite slow and a bit dorky at others. But it does have a unique vibe that sets it apart.

A unique but tasty cocktail

A remarkable mix of (hard-hitting) home invasion, fairytale folklore horror and perhaps even contemplations about manhood. Even the tone varies from scene to scene. But all in all, it sort of worked. Not a masterpiece, but highly amusing and quite intense at times.

Unbalanced

These LEGO movies will deliver the frantic action and fun, but I found it an unbalanced with a restless first half and then too much over-emotional scenes in the second one. But who am I? My son rated it 9.5.

Good, but may have lost the effect it once had

I'd be happy to acknowledge the impact that this slowly unfolding and psychological horror must have had back in the days, and I quite enjoyed it as well. But in the now, I found the bigger part of it very chatty and the climax barely making up for it.

Decent macho stuff

It tries a little too hard to be macho and has everyone talking in super tough guy one liners... all at the expense of realism and true tension. But what's left is still an entertaining, action-packed submarine movie for us to jerk off to the glorious American military.
