Kitchy, unique and atmospheric

I almost could not get over the heinous, ridiculous way the crew looked (especially Mack!), but realized it matched with the oddly unique, kitschy interior of the spaceship, creating a unique vibe. I really liked this show, with an interesting story, a great finale and fantastic music.

A good movie about something bad

Needless to say a rather depressing affair, but it isn't dwelling in it's misery. There's a (intentional?) contrast with the sunny beach, mellow light and ordeal that is taking place. The developing relationship with the ruthless captain and the boys worked for me.

A very decent in between scifi with good ideas

Original science fiction mystery that gradually evolves into an action thriller. It is quite nice indeed, but could have hit harder by exploring this profound premise and what it might do to people mentally.

The Tarantino of highschool movies

The constant and lengthy foul-mouthed dialogues and contemplations create an atmosphere reminiscent of Tarantino movies. It's kind of like an adult version of highschool movies. Cool.

A painful but highly amusing take on the zombie genre

The gore is quite shocking, but it is a welcome take on zombies (although technically I don't think they are dead?). It worked for me - I was amused, appalled and quite into it. The ending features slower, deeper contemplations instead of a bloody grand finale; courageous if not a bit anticlimactic.

Survives its many flaws

I wish the superpowers were a little less extreme, the science a bit more refined, the pacing a but more delicate. It's also unfortunate that the superpowers are only used for fighting goons, not something more poetic. Despite all that, it still is a very entertaining, smart and quite a cool movie.

Refreshingly nasty

With his bad mouth, self awareness, humor and ultra cool action scenes, Dead Pool is a breath of fresh air amidst his unbearably boring Marvel colleagues. Story wise, it could step up a bit though as that felt shallow and plain.

nasty and cold, but quite interesting indeed

A cold and surreal affair, the kind that pulls of showing rather expliciet sex scenes without being arousing in the slightest, with peculiar acting and dialogues that alienate even further. I found it quite intriguing.

Fine heavy duty action

Movies that occur in a single place can feel somewhat cheap. But I quite enjoyed this moody, dark, heavy action flick with some beautiful slo-mo scenes and sounds.

Quite creative

I am still not sure if I fully grasp the story, let alone summarize it properly, but this is a rather interesting horror with plenty of worthy moments. It uses some well known horror elements but uses them to built a creative and refreshing story with.

I you love to hate him, you'll love this

Maybe not quite as unbearable as The Office, this movie still provides a fresh dose of the self-torture, cringing, laughing, shame and gasping that come with watching this man at work.

Dialogues not overly succesful, but the rest is

The dialogue can by long, stiff and unnatural. But the wonderful imagery, music, mysterious atmosphere and mesmerizing scenes of future Japan still make it an intriguing experience.

Puts some full-length anime's to shame

While they are too short to really have an impact, I quiet enjoyed these original and beautifully drawn anime's. They are a big step up from the usual, similar looking and sounding anime stuff and I am ready for more!

Great mystery with some impressive ghost discomfort

The creepy ghosts and their interaction with of darkness and shadows is impressive, perhaps a masterclass in fear and discomfort in film. I didn't mind the unexplained, open ended nature of the story either, but the characters doing seemingly random 'stuff' was a bit off-putting.

Dark and unpleasant but somehow very relevant too

Darker than the previous one, (even) more difficult to digest too. But something about it feels relevant and it is quite an intense experience that keeps you gazing in awe.

Whack horror

While there is some pretty gruesome imaginary, the predominant atmosphere is a quirky, pleasantly absurd movie that somehow evokes a smile amidst all the bloodshed.

A well executed idea

A great idea that is played out interestingly and excitingly without overdoing it. Some horror, some thriller and smart tricks with time. I couldn't ask for more.

A very trilling home invasion flick, but not for the fainthearted

It's a unpleasant, painful, violent and - especially towards the end - quite gory movie that is probably too much for the most of us. But I have to say, as a home invasion movie it was very tense en gripping, and the feeling of desolation and hopelessness was very well done.

somewhat odd and different but very tasty

The main thing going through my mind was how slightly odd and different this is. The characters, the story, the humor, the flow, it's all a bit odd, but in a refreshingly blunt way. It provides plenty to ponder on, and contains some of the most interesting and well done UFO scenes I know.

Truly terryfing scenes in a somewhat vague storyline

This features more than an average amount of quite intense, scary scenes that really come through. In fact this is close to being one of the better horrors out there, but somehow the story was a bit vague and hard to even remember, deducting points.

A diabolical mix of horror and porn

Yes, this was worthy of a top-10 position in every list of unbearable movies - although my lost and desensitized mind handled it better than I thought. But is it good? Ultimately, I think it works, perhaps because I kept some sympathy for the main character, and none of the depravity is embellished.

Great change of tone

With it's minimal animation, stiff voiceovers and Japanese girlpop power vibe, it took me some effort to get into this. But this beautifully contrasts with the dark and vile direction it takes on later, and then, when it starts to mess with time and your head as well, the effort had been worth it!

Tank porn. It exists.

A rather bold action flick showing loads of tanks with super slowmo shell penetrations and sweaty screaming Russians. I feared it was more of a videoclip than a movie, but the story catches up and makes it worthwhile and quite exciting indeed. Perfect for tank aficionados like me.

Light hearted drama that is actually worth a watch

Sympathetic movie with a touching story based on true events (including the dubious role of the catholic church in child adoptions in Ireland), and very convincing acting by Judi Dench. Ideal movie for men who want to show their partner they actually have a sensitive side as well....

A sweet adventure with some new and some familiar stuff

A competent, colorful and quite exciting adventure. I liked how the appearance and behavior of the dragon wasn't 're-imagined' and stays close to the Chinese originals (even if they somewhat resemble Little Pony's®). The humor and inevitable morals in the story are a bit much, but ok.

Good WW2 movie with a dash of mystery

An intense and sometimes gruesome looking WW2 flick that can be a bit slow at times, but compensates with a nice mixture of mystery, war, interesting characters and a diverging but well done ending.

Not much new but still good underwater thrills

This was unexpectedly solid in fact. Not much wrong with the underwater and alien excitement at all. It is let down by the rather linear story with no real surprises, and looses an entire point for awful appearance of Stewart. God I wish she looked like she did in Camp X-ray in this.

Congratulations: the most vile and depressing movies I know

A deeply depressing and sickening film - Not just because of the the obscenities, the depravity, animal deaths, the intestines, the excrements and cruelty - but the music, camerawork and voiceover made me even more nauseous. You may give it 1 point, I opt higher due to the sheer impact of it all.

A remarkable and bold series that features quite a few novelties

A bit filthy and bizarre, somewhat reminiscent of Lynch/Cronenberg weirdness and I like it. It walks a remarkable line between strange humor (puking live kittens?) and gory violence. I also like the modern day approach to witches and witchcraft.

A unique mystery

A mesmerizingly calm and mysterious film that is close to horror, but not in a sensationalist way. Sometimes it's annoying when you don't know what's going on in a movie, but sometimes, like in this one, it is a wonderful trip and puzzle to get lost in.

Absurd and dark fairytale

Not withstanding some pretty dark themes and scenery, it felt more than a modern, sinister fairy-tale than a true horror - which is quite fine! I think it could have been more intense here and there, acting was a occasionally a bit stiff, but overall a fine and pleasantly absurd tale.

It can be liked!

Apparently I am the only one who likes this movie. But heck: it's an exciting story, the performances are fine and it contains some terrifying and unrivaled footage of disasters. I even liked the ending too, it is pretty!

Intriguing and very well acted

It beautifully showed how this single event was slowly infecting and spreading like disease in their marriage, courtesy of the textbook acting and gentle pacing and camera work. One of those movies I didn't plan on watching, but couldn't stop once I did.

Unpleasant but relevant curiosity

It's a glooming, filthy and let's not forget very slow film that's not for everyone. But I have to say it worked too. The way she endures it, all alone in her windowless apartment, without seeking help, adds to an deep sense of isolation and depression, and a deeper meaning to it.

Mean and original

Apart from a slowish middle section, it's a wicked, smart and playfull timetravel movie.

A classy horror

A higher tier horror, which proves painfully clear how many others are just brainless scarejump pulp. This is more more interesting, well done and well told throughout. I do feel though that some scenes could and should have been more hair-raising.

A tasty, fresh and creepy horror

A horror with a steady focus, that expertly cashes in on our native fear of dark hallways and is proud do things slightly different. I also like how they keep it fresh with introducing new characters and perspectives a couple of times throughout the movie.

Depressing, in a good way

Gloomy and dark, with a well constructed sense of desolation. You can almost smell the humidity and feel the suffocating scenery. Acting is intense if not a bit over, but somehow it seems right for this movie.

A very decent sci-fi action thriller.

If you manage to NOT see this as a reboot, it's a fine sci-fi action flick with some great designs.

A pleasant mystery

The mystery of not quite getting what is going on really adds to suspense and intrigue and this stylish scifi. Low profile in an effective way, but the many long scenes can be a bit much at times.

Bit weird and unsettling, but nevertheless interesting and sensual

A must see for those interested in original alien movies, Scarlett Johansson, or both. Partially filmed with standard digital cameras, providing a successfull hidden camera experience. Visual effects from the eighties and creepy sounds throughout the movie provide the cherry on top.

If you see it you might need therapy also

A weird ass trip of the first kind, in which you mostly have to figure out for yourself what to make of it as you are being sedated by the psychedelic colors and imagery. Its crawling pace is both a strength and weakness. Not for everyone, but I was quite hooked indeed.

A little scifi gem

It's a bit campy and occasionally borderline B-movie-ish. But it never crosses that line, instead delivering many memorable and well done scifi moments, some great designs and humor that works.

A worthy succesor

I guess it would never have been able to top the original, but I commend them for getting close and successfully prolonging the same action, humor and on-man-army formula. It's all just a bit less snappy.

Quite unique and fun, not really scary though

While I would have liked these to be more gory and/or scary, I found the first 4 very amusing and fresh spooky tales, with some clever and inspired stories. The final two a bit less so.

Another fine but slightly depressing episode

This franchise keeps delivering solidly made, unpretentious adventure in which over the top nonsense and action just feels as part of the deal. I did think this one had a too dark and depressing atmosphere, and after so much dino's footage lately I can only get modestly excited by them.

Fine Danish mystery

While not spectacular, this series provides a interesting mystery and characters - all embedded in that lovely Danish vibe: slowish and gray, yet relaxed and natural.

Still too much Hollywood for it's own good

Big and bold monster rampage is the easy part, making it count is hard. Some surprisingly stylish scenes are overshadowed (I think it had two artdirectors) by the usual movie laziness en cliches - like people constantly briefing each other about things everyone's already doing. A fun ride though.

Somber viking tale

This somber, raw and quiet movie, only occasionally augmented by bearded vikings mumbling a few words, is quite a slow burner but is intense nonetheless. It worked for about 3 quarters in, after which I started longing for some action or plot development. Still, a nice change of pace.

Bursting with life

It's almost impossible not to fall for the groovy atmosphere, ultra saturated colors, fantastic designs, wonderful scenery and continuous wisecracks. It was clearly made with heaps of faith and love for this universe, and I salute them. But a deep, engrossing adventure it is not.

Remarkable

About 90% of the movie is romantic drama leading up to the infamous 10% of painful torture. If you didn't know about this finale, I suspect some might wonder where this movie is going and what it is about. But as it is, the combination makes for an intriguing and remarkable movie.

Should have been even funnier

The whole idea is so outstandingly funny that I couldn't help feeling somewhat disappointed. But it IS funny.

Succesful absurdity

Successfully achieves an uncanny atmosphere without over relying on effects, instead setting an ominous mood with black and white tones. I also dig the usage of a superhappy place for something twisted to evolve. Quite exciting.

Loud noise but plenty to make up for it

The hard, restless cuts and loud music can be a bit much, but I did think they have a unique mood going on, there are enough memorable shock moments. And what really struck me was the natural and believable acting throughout, which made the entirely adolescent cast bearable for once.

A strange disaster movie about communication

This movie has seemingly normal, recognizable people in a seemingly familiar disaster movie, but something is off and strange throughout. It's mostly the dialogues, that seem to make a statement about how we (don't) communicate and are disconnected from each other. Remarkable but satisfying.

Good one

A pleasing mystery horror that builds well on the intimacy and isolation of the couple, and reels you in as the mystery increases but hardly resolves.

Unpleasant weekend trip

Things really go south, and you really feel for the couple as it goes from spoiling to terrorizing and worse. Making the gang all kids makes it all very uncomfortable, as you want them to smash their heads against a rock but they sort of can't.

An interesting horror that is adequately scary

An original, gripping and quite tense horror movie that had me talking and pondering long after it was finished... which is a good thing that I find increasingly rare. I just thought that it felt short on being truly scary or under the skin, the way I thought it would be.

Nice small-town cosmic horror

A nicely done movie with some cosmic horror and mystery, a lovely 'something is off' vibe, good 'rural town' atmosphere and a lead actress who manages to gain sympathy despite playing quite a nasty person. A nice treat indeed.

Awesomeness, but did not leave me in awe

It's a beautiful grandiose piece of work. But somehow I was looking at it more than I was experiencing it. And why are these whining hobbits the chosen one? And why didn't Gandalf summon those giant birds earlier, to get them there immediately? WHYYY.

Not for everyone, but a joy for some

Once again it will test your endurance for coping with long, poetic, endless metaphors and contemplations about technology. And once again it will reward you with a fabulous combination of drawn and CGI graphics and a fascinating atmosphere. A bit too low an action maybe, but worth it.

Shattering beauty in an exciting alien universe - badly damaged by an unlikely crew doing unlikely things in a scenario full of WTF-moments.

Unique, dark and bright

While the viral success and hype it generated may seem a bit much, I would agree that it is a fresh, well made series that make you eager for the next episode. The bright colors contrast nicely with the dark theme, you get to like the protagonists and loathe the bad ones.

Tremendous fun and adventure. A success.

Me and my wife agreed that the balance between action/chase scenes and supernatural historical mystery could perhaps be opposite of what it is, but this is entertaining and fun, pretty much the way it should be. Whether it truly has lasting standout moments, I am not sure.

A very decent if not somewhat inplausible mystery/horror

When I thought about this movie afterwards, I started feeling the story was rather far fetched in places, but this didn't bother when I watched it. Instead, I rather enjoyed the ominous mood, the tasteful reli-creepiness and the cold scenery.

A strangely presented and dark tale, that gets to you nonetheless

I needed some getting used to the stiff, strangely brought dialogues from some characters, but eventually this added to a uncomfortable, disconnected, but intriguing atmosphere. The boy's behavior really makes you anxious, as does the dark story as whole.

Very fine horror that is just a bit too long

A good horror that impress with plenty of scares accentuated by great camerawork, and refrains from too much cheap jump scares. Like it's predecessor though, I thought it went on for too long so my 'get scared' supply ran out and I was just taking it in. Too bad.

Not bad for a movie about lawyers and judges

Solid acting performance by the cast, but no big surprises in the plot. Overall, a pleasant movie.

Stylish and focussed

Instead of getting overly smart with the premise, or making it a gimmicky science fiction, it keeps focus on the main story and a few central characters, and makes it all very classy, mysterious and sometimes dark movie indeed.

The fun to be had!

No doubt we could make a long list of things that are dumb or preposterous about this movie. But I thought they nailed that lovely vibe of action-disaster movies of yesteryear, and I honestly can't think of a recent movie that made me enjoy myself and sit on the edge of my seat like this one!

Uneasy

While not as deeply disturbing as the of hype would make you believe, it was uneasy for sure. I liked it; photography was beautiful, and the slow tension and mystery keeps you hooked. But at the same time, I was slightly disappointed for not requiring therapy afterwards.

Staying loyal to the franchise has it's drawbacks

Despite exquisite action scenes and many memorable Starwars moments, something felt tired. How many dramatic Vader entrances must I care for? How many nameless (and still incompetent) stormtroopers killed? How many shields disabled just in time? How much dangling in high shafts?

Mostly a satisfying mystery crime story

Gloomy and very Finscher indeed. I liked it, but I thought the girl was too alien and the guy too earthlike to make much sense of their relationship in the first place.

Original, effective and hellish

While the actors may not be very likable, at least their character are unique and distinct, and we are given the time to get to know them. The finale is truly hellish, the atmosphere is ominous and there's some interesting stuff going on in the time line as well.

As good as you could hope for

A fine sequel. I liked how the visualized the internet. It doesn't, however, manage to overcome the sequel curse and bring back the magical atmosphere, or the refined and diverse story line from the first part.

Clever survival story

Although the numerous flashbacks sometimes get in the way of the action, they are also a clever way too tell a survival story in a broad sense of the word. I guess it makes sense that you spend a lot of time with your thoughts in a situation like this. Nice.

A mature and pretty Anime, with some problems

While there are some anime annoyances, like bizarre behavior of all females, this had quite a mature, restrained atmosphere in which the Gundam action was secondary. I couldn't quite follow it, but was impressed by some gorgeous visuals (like nature and downtown cities) as well as the music.

Okay these guys are tough

As these men are battered & bruised, smashed against rocks, cornered and shot, the increasing dread of death and hopelessness comes across very well. Intense movie that stuck for a while.

Shoot 'em up between navy seals and taliban

Main part of the movie consists of Americans and Taliban chasing, shooting, injuring and killing eachother. Apparently a navy seal can sustain more injury than Iron Man ("is there a bullet in my head?"). Overall an okay movie for those of us not easily scared by bloody scenes.

Over the top science fiction action movie (in a good way)

A bit too much of everything, but somehow just right because of that!

Take some time to let it sink in, and start enjoying

Not familiar with this comic, I feared I'd never get into this unexplained stream of weirdness. But the humor, vivid space combat action and sympathetic characters grew on me and left me quite entertained indeed.

Served straight up, which is both good and bad

I was lured into this reading somewhere that it was a cross between western and horror. Wrongly so, because it really is a western with perhaps some gore at the end. It was okay; very linear, straightforward story with no window dressing. This made it pure and natural, but not really exciting.

Over the top in a nice way

I don't buy many aspects of the story, but I enjoyed it anyway!

Good old fashioned suspense

An reasonably intense thriller with a constantly high adrenaline level, and a pleasant 'old fashioned' simplicity of execution. Near the end they go a little overboard with the whodunnit game, and the far fetched motives and plans of the terrorist are yeh-right.

A lesser but stilll adequate episode

Not as epic and overwhelming as the preceding parts, in part because of the rather dull main characters. Still, there's plenty of Terminator goodness in here to have a good time. Average actionmovies back then still were more fun than the soulless fx bonanzas we get nowadays.

Solid

A somewhat uncomfortable mix of blood spills and goofy humor degrade this otherwise solid and gun fun action movie.

Freaks!

Smooth, sparkling and good looking entertainment. But these mutants and their adventures are stereotypes by definition, that won't lock in emotionally. I also thought Wolverine was out of place as the sensible mediator trying to get people to change their ways.

A decent horror drama

More drama than horror, but a feeling of increasing discomfort and dread is unmistakable. Everything is done pretty well, and I liked how the timelines of two perspectives come together. But part of me felt it remained a little lightweight, could have hit harder.

Succesfull action silliness for adults

Sure it's over the top silly. But there's something right about this movie. It doesn't claim to be more than it is, some of the action is just plain cool, and it has the right amount of violence and gloominess to prevent you from feeling like you're watching PowerRangers.

A sober animal horror that fails to push through

In a way, this is the eighties animal swarm horror movies re-imagined in a much more realistic, restrained and adult way. It works for the most part, but the same simple and slow atmosphere also had me yearning for some more excitement.

Moody but a bit too emtpy

With it's moody, grainy colors and images, and continuous dread of the unexplained, this had the potential for being quite an intense, under-your-skin thriller/horror. But unfortunately, the slowish plot and an overall empty feeling ment some of the scares were lost.

A heavy, deeply uncomfortable, depressing affair.

If you manage to finally make it through the rape scenes, the next endurance test is full frontal torture, slightly more bearable because of the payback. I thought the complicated torture setups deployed seemed overly elaborate, prone to errors. But how can we rate movies like this? A 7 perhaps?

A somewhat mellow but fine chapter in this series

It really is an in-between movie without a convincing climax, and with less tension and mystery than its predecessor. But is also retrains enough of the unique style and excitement to make it worthwhile.

Something embarrasing you keep looking at

The change of static scenery's and unapologetic overacting makes it feel theatric. The many explicit sex scenes mostly come across as clumsy and awkward, as does the jumpy, idiotic and embarrassing behavior of Caligula. Yes, embarrassing was my main sensation, but I have to admit I was intrigued too

Mostly a decent home invasion movie

I liked the idea of a single, cute girl in a dress facing such dreadful odds, and it certainly has some strong scenes and moments. After a while though, I thought it became a bit directionless, and the surreal dreamy ending felt slapped on without really knowing what it was supposed to mean.

Fine espionage

A decent, classic espionage action flick. It is a bit low on standout moments though, and the cockiness and skills of the main character can be too much at times.

Delightful

A delightful movie with great music tracks and characters that will steal your heart. I did feel that the story could have used some more details, and they could have had some more fun with using odd animal species rather than the obvious choices seen here (monkeys, pigs, elephant).

Quite a unique survival movie

Indoor survival, what an idea! It's all executed perfectly fine, and Dafoe manages to not overdo the gradually increasing frustration and insanity. Nothing mind-blowing here, but it's a worthwhile and refreshingly different movie for sure.

An African American living in New york is kidnapped and sold as slave

Based on a true story addressing the gruesome consequences of slavery in the southern states of mid 19th century America. Although I can appreciate this movie and the message it portrays, there are other movies on this topic that I find more memorable.

Nice gimmick in an ok horror

I love the thing they do with dark and light, but it's not enough to compensate for the over familiar story, characters and performances - which prevent it from becoming truly scary. A fine horror though.

Far-fetched plots also have side effects

Good, but as the story becomes more and more unbelievable, your involvement in this movie wears off.

Intense and different, but not necessarily likable

I can appreciate the grime atmosphere and action instead of the ridiculous and hollow bubbly colors of most superhero movies. But is does mean that there is hardly anyone to like in this movie, nor is Charles as a needy and deteriorating man any fun to watch.

Better than other superhero movies but still not very exciting

I liked this better than most superhero movies. It looks crisp, some of the fighting is nicely choreographed and shot, characters are sort of likeable and it isn't as hysteric or over the top as the others. But like most superhero movies, it struggles to reach deeper or really leave an impression.

Oscar material and it knows it

A slew of triple A actors are seemingly competing for who has the most acting prowess, almost up to the point of overacting. The story is one of those 'little known story that needs to be told' affairs. Undoubtedly a good movie - but there is something very self conscious and Oscar hungry about it.
