Entertaining mix of nonsense

Back from when actors were ugly and sweaty, and people were interrogated by slapping them in the face, comes this remarkable mix of scifi, horror, zombie-outbreak and soft erotica. And it's remarkably entertaining at that.

Too much?

Despite a couple of awesome scenes and a praiseworthy new tone and style, I felt underwhelmed. I am getting tired of some of the star wars ways, the casino sidestory was awful, I didn't like Luke and I was bored during the endless contemplating of the force and good and evil. It's getting too much.

Interesting and focussed, but a bit mellow

It brings down the story to the essence, features fine design and actors, and certainly had us entertained. But the big finale seems a bit cumbersome and unlikely, and part of me thought the impossible ethical decisions could have been more heart wrenching, and tension more nail-biting.

Well made and interesting, but know it's basically lengthy love drama

What a great idea to explore what was behind these duels: Who were these people? What were they fighting for? And while the movie is made with much class and great acting, it still felt like a love-triangle-jealousy kind of thing which almost is a bit soapy at times.

Great reveal and vibe, but somehow didn't quite nail it

The reveal at the end, and some pondering on my part, made me realize this is actually a pretty clever movie. But the bubbly 50's colors and cartoonish acting of the mother, while creating a unique atmosphere, sort of diminished the scares - which were already a bit cliched.

Decent horror in the woods

Overall it does a good job at harvesting the creepiness of woods and witches. Unfortunately, the guys are rather unsympathetic and it's hard to buy into their friendship. It also feels a bit linear; I was waiting for some sort of twist in the story.

Meaty mix

A mixture of war, action and horror, delivering a meaty and enjoyable watch. It is, however, not super exciting nor super scary, and it is let down by some cliches and annoying characters, especially that damn kid.

slightly dull but ultimately satisfying

It's starts a bit pale in terms of colors, performances and pace, but certainly interesting enough to keep you aboard. Then it goes quite deep in terms of layers and plottwist, yielding a rewarding and fulfilling experience for sure.

Unpleasantly piercing you conscience, but as a horroflick a bit thin

Seeing humans being treated like animals is quite a clever move, because it is shocking and vile, yet you can't fully condemn it because we treat animals this way too. It gives an unpleasant feeling. Too bad the move has little more to offer. Still, I suggest part II - the abattoir could be huge.

Beautiful failure

You have to admire the sheer beauty and magnitude of this spectacle. But there is also a feeling of disappointment, as I cannot really get into this movie, feel for any of the characters, appreciate the campy slapstick action or take in the wash of special effects.

Fine scfi, but lacking the right stuff to soar

A decent, fine looking flick that achieves much without over-relying on effects or spectacle. I thought it lacked some finesse, and felt like it reached for some deeper but didn't quite get a grasp. I was also very disappointment with the thing they needed the nuclear battery for.

A sweet mystery

You tend to get this Goonie's adventure vibe when youngsters go on a secret mission, and here we get Danish serenity on top of it. It's a sweet mystery, even if things can get quite unlikely at times, and the main character is not very likable. That space costume looked 70 years too late.

Good but very slow

Overall it is a fine, nicely shot and very moody mystery-horror. But I have to say it is taking the 'slow burning' up to rather extreme lengths, up until the point it almost it standing still and they somewhat loose the tension curve.

A bizarre gore anarchy

Initially I was wondering if there was going to be any point to this, but gradually the continuous very gory executions, set against this totalitarian society with continuous advertisement for human meat.... somehow began to work. Very rebellious and sickening. For some, that is a plus.

A sober animal horror that fails to push through

In a way, this is the eighties animal swarm horror movies re-imagined in a much more realistic, restrained and adult way. It works for the most part, but the same simple and slow atmosphere also had me yearning for some more excitement.

as is

The feminine variation on the buddy-cop theme gives it a slight edge over the expected experience: funny but not hilarious, entertaining but not engrossing, good but not great.

Perfectly unimpressive

What a perfect Starwars movie. It has everything you could possibly want, done in a tasteful and beautiful manner. Yet I walk out the theater feeling indifferent, numb and with no desire to discuss, read up, rethink or relive any of it. I wonder if it's just fatigue, or something more fundamental

Orginal and brave

This movie strikes some nice chords as it wanders into pleasant absurdity. Gradually, a more standard crime story takes over, which is less appealing by comparison. Still, extra points for originality and courage.

Not pleasant but rewarding in the end

It is a bit filthy and unpleasant by it's very nature, and I wasn't sure if wanted to experience this in it's entirety. Turns out I did. I became curious to find out how it ends and how it came to be. It's probably also a wise (but optional) lesson about humanity and 'spontaneous socialism'.

Something embarrasing you keep looking at

The change of static scenery's and unapologetic overacting makes it feel theatric. The many explicit sex scenes mostly come across as clumsy and awkward, as does the jumpy, idiotic and embarrassing behavior of Caligula. Yes, embarrassing was my main sensation, but I have to admit I was intrigued too

Shame about the crew

Perfectly adequate in it's display of deep water fear and claustrophobia, but making all members chagrined assholes probably wasn't the best way to make me care.

A decent single location mystery

A risky movie, featuring mostly a single person in a single location, but I thought it succeeded pretty well in setting up an interesting mystery puzzler, with a dash of scifi. There was room for some more intricacies if you ask me, but all in all good job.

A novel and well executed horror idea

A bold idea that works surprisingly well and provided a unique scary movie. For sheer originality I wanted to rate this higher, but for that it would have needed more than these unappealing teen characters and a slightly more refined plot.

A bit rough around the edges, but it is in there

It feels a bit sluggish and undirected, and despite some horrific scenes never got truly scary - as if the director hasn't mastered scary cinematography quite yet. But - it still has a lot of gruesome and really vile moments, very good horrormusic and starts to grow on you as it descents into hell.

A fine psychological drama but nothing spectacular

This movie was quite a departure from my usual scifi and horror picks, but I have to say it kept my interest all the way. This is mainly because of the strong lead actresses, and a subtle anxiety woven through the story. But a little bit more spice would have been welcome for me.

There's something about it

I can't get my head around this one. It is a bit weird, slow, they talk too much and I am not even sure that much happened in this episode. But once it is over, I felt like I had witnessed something deep and profound. The atmosphere in these animated series is just so.. unworldly.

A good war movie that's missing out on some areas

I am always reluctant to complain when a movie sets out to depict and respect true war events, but while it certainly is and engrossing and genuine movie, some part of it felt of. Unlikely dialogue, oddly undisciplined soldiers and a major who's personality is allover the place.

A fair addition to the tale

My compliments for staying true to the concept, yet finding a story from a new viewpoint, instead of just doing the same movie again (in Barcelona). Overall, it is a pretty tense and entertaining movie, even if it slightly dozes off during the bits between the action.

A fair Se7en clone

The story, of course, is somewhat similar to Se7en, but the atmosphere is different and not as dark en depressing. I thought it was okay, but it can be illogical at times, the detectives' flat, emotionless personality wasn't helping and the version I saw was let down by subpar english voiceovers.

Good fun, but it's really only comedy

Having all female leads was a good move to make it fresh, and overall I had a good time with this colorful and frisky comedy. It's predecessors, however, also threw in some genuine scares in creepiness in the mix, which made for a more exciting, balanced experience than this.

A raw, unpolished war story

There is something very loose about the story and directing, giving it a docu like atmosphere as you observe these brave guys like a fly on the wall. It also meant I was not over involved with them either, but it's a good watch nonetheless.

ok mystery, but sluggish and slightly dull

Mostly a fine mystery and crime story, that adds some layers as we learn more about how the device works. But like many series, it can be very sluggish, almost as if it is struggling to fill up 8 episodes. Most actors are kind of flat, too.

Naughty and pleasantly bizarre

but the constant rectal suffering could make you nauseous.

Stylish violent action, if not a bit repetitive

A violent movie with a gloomy and sweaty atmosphere and bucket loads of style. After a while though, the endless shootouts, and the mobsters' tendency to run into the hitman's arms without shooting, got a bit tiresome.

A really mixed bag

It's more mature, confident and less hysteric than most superhero movies, due to restrained superpowers and lots of attention to the story. But, all characters are flat and unlikable, and the brawls are a bit tedious. This quality popcorn amusement feels like it could have been more than that.

Good but relies on tricks

I have mixed feelings about the constant voice over. There are only so many ways to depict a driving car, so they desperately needed to alternate with the shots of Mars, which, while atmospheric, felt a bit like cheating. It managed to keep me interested though.

Sassy and snappy

A sassy and snappy little movie that successfully mixes humor, action and some mystery. It just never reaches soaring highs in any of those fields.

Many great laughs eventually fade away

I laughed out loud several times in the beginning, which is quite rare these these days. But as it retreats to it's story and morals, it looses much momentum and becomes a little basic yet again. I wonder if movies like these could just forget about the plot and just have fun the entire time.

Bit boring movie with good acting

The movie provides an overview of the impressive achievements of Alan Turing during World War 2, as well as aspects of his personal life afterwards. Great role by Cumberbatch, but the pace is rather slow and I actually almost fell asleep towards the end (although it was also rather late).

An uncomfortable subject cleverly twisted into a decent thriller

Although there is obviously necrophilia, the movie manages to keep it watchable without wanting to take a shower afterwards. In fact, it turns into an original and really decent thriller.

A decent but not perfect single-person, single-location flick

One of those risky movies shot on a single location with a single actor holding everything together. It works - it is a thrilling watch. It lacks, however the craftsmanship or plot to really make it bite your nails, and would have benefited from more realism and a more likable lead character.

Simple but sweet time travel conundrums

It's perhaps a bit tame, and guilty of picking and choosing only the time travels paradoxes it wants, but all in all we enjoyed this puzzler that mixes crime, time travel and a love-story into a sympathetic series.

Quite good for what it is

Overall, this mixture of bad movie making, bloody horror, crap fx and boobs (and other genitalia) make for some for remarkably satisfying brainless popcorn entertainment.

West Side Story turned on it's head

It's a wonderful movie with a big heart, but the lovestory in it just doesn't quite reach the same level as the visuals and original ideas.

Minimally pulled me through

A low budget affair that is in danger of having way too much time to fill up, and does so with long, overstretched scenes with very little in it. But, they managed to put in enough mystery and anxiety about the ending to make it work and keep me interested. Not too bad!

Nice surprise that dares to do things differently

I quite liked this little nugget. The way we see him going about his work without even seeing the demons, and without any pampering explanation, is pleasantly mysterious and makes us observers peeking into his life. It keeps it intimate and compact, and the visuals are nice.

Sweet little mystery

It could be said that the content is fairly minimal, but this didn't bother me at all. It is wonderfully mysterious, the slowness just adds to atmosphere and feeling of desolation, and they were really able to get the most out of the awe inspiring scenery and mystical abandoned town.

I liked the original Mad Max movies more....

This was actually rather good

A great movie that is balanced right, looks tight and manages to maintain a sense of depth and style throughout the machine-flesh mayhem. I also liked how Max himself was a bit off, unconventional hero. A bit mad indeed, and therefore more interesting than your average hero.

A remarkably framed horror

The main protagonist is a remarkably cartoonish and over-the-top character, which reminded me a bit of the Ash character from Evil Dead. While this horror has it's moment's, this mostly makes it akin towards comedy. Refreshing and quiet amusing perhaps, but not really terrifying.

The same old mistakes

A dark atmosphere and some hefty gung-ho warfare could have made this intense, were it not for the inevitable patriotism and flag waving, annoying Hollywood plot conveniences and stereotype terrorists (oh come on - nuclear launch codes, again?).

Okay

Slow paced movie with a rather straightforward plot, nevertheless managed to keep my attention. Interesting insight into moral issues that people are facing while struggling forward in current day society.

Plenty to like but not to feel

Overall a satisfactory experience for animation enthusiast like myself, with some imaginative action and storytelling. But with no background story and no real character to know or love, it's doesn't really hit you emotionally.

Funny and witty

An above average funny movie with quite a few good laughs. It's all courtesy of Stiller's monumental talent for painfully cringe-worthy situations we can all relate too. The rest of the cast is not too shabby either.

You may not get it

It is hard to connect with this strange mixture of crazy outfits, ridiculous people, bizarre plot, lessons in life and bloody violence. But once I did - way into the movie - I started to laugh and was quite entertained.

Superman remains tough to beat, and tough to make a good film out of

They have given him some worthy adversaries other than kryptonite, resulting in some really smashing showdowns. But the storytelling is messy, and Hollywood still doesn't realize that an overdose of fast, blurry and over the top destruction only leaves viewers bored and cut off from the movie.

Succesful formula

It successfully prolongs the mixture of snappy action, heaps of humor and self reflection whilst still being exciting the same time. "Do you guys put 'quantum' in front of everything?" Haha.

Another fine spy movie

There's nothing wrong with it. It could even be quite good. But to me, all these spy femme fatale movies are so bloody similar and generic, like they al follow the same textbook. The 'seduction training school' was something that stood out, but seemed too absurd to add points to this.

Pretty cool contemporary whoddunit

The prospect of watching superhip Tiktok kids yelling stuff like ghosting and gaslighting while screaming and running through the house was not appealing to me. But I gotta say, these actors portray some pretty intense characters, adding to pretty intense, contemporary whodunnit film.

I feared worse

There's the inevitable movie cliches. The main gum-chewing hero was annoying as hell. But I like how his character changed as he was given responsibility, and the movie features plenty of well done and good looking battle scenes. Yet none of it really stuck as I left the theater.

Good, but let down by the 'crew'

The point of view of this movie is master stroke and works beautifully. But I found the scared, disjunct, insubordinate and unorganized crew - even before anything happens - unrealistic an unconvincing. I would have rather seen the tension come from war and claustrophobia, not amateurism.

Gloomy and effective but not very involving

It's good to see some dark, well-acted, sweaty, and straight up bad cop action again, with effective action/violence because it doesn't want to over dramatize or orchestrate anything. It would have helped though, if we knew a little bit more about these guys so we can sympathize a little better.

The secret ingredient was missing

One of those curious cases where everything seems to be in place, yet still something's not quite right, and you can't pinpoint what it is. It is made just fine, but I had trouble getting into it, getting exciting by it, and remembering much of it.

Solid but with some windowdressing

Overall this was quite solid and featured good acting and atmospherics. But ultimately the superpowers and cool airdrop-robots started to feel as window dressing, because they didn't really seem to matter for the development of the story, and a slightly underwhelming crime story was what remained.

Fun adventure let down by the CGI fights

A lively adventure movie with a 'classic' atmosphere, and fun performances of the main characters and their constant quarrels. Like many other CGI-heavy movies, I found the combat scenes hard to follow, unpleasant and ultimately not very exciting. I wish they kept them more 'classic' as well.

Genuine and exciting, but full of wankers

I liked the authentic feel throughout, as well as the restrained acting and good underwater scenes. Something was not quite right with the characters though, as everyone was sort of a zombie ignorant ass about everything that was going on.

Intriguing but executed a bit dull

It is hard to follow, but in a nice, mindfuck twisted way, and it is carried on a diligent synth ambient track as well. But something about it is a bit simplistic and uninspired, like the creators were more interested in the idea itself that the presentation of it.

Japanese kitch with chilling monsters

I may never get used to the silly Japanese overacting and kitsch expressions, but I have to say these pale giants with their lifeless stares are some of the more intense and terrifying monsters I have seen lately. Memorable and unique.

How to deal with adolescent hardships (in a non-comic way)

No action or comedy flick, but a nice movie when you are in the right mood for an insightful trip into the world of adolescents and the challenges they have to face. Key words: future plans and careers, (badly ending) relationships, and alcohol abuse (to name just a few we all know so well ;) )

Intriguing little UFO tale

I was sort of waiting for a movie like this. Make the UFO secondary, and focus on what it does to people. This one sort of does that, and I was quite amused by it and liked the central role of mathematics. It can feel a bit low budget at times, but overall: yeh, a smart and nice surprise.

Like always, a really mixed experience

I have a strange relationship with Ghost in the Shell. Most of it I don't follow, and I might fall asleep numerous times during the tech and political babble. But it is also so irresistibly cool and tasty, often with splendid music, that I keep coming back to it. Like this episode.

An adventure like this ought to be more exciting

Looks good and overall a good watch. But it didn't get quite as emotional, scary, claustrophobic or engrossing as I had hoped. I think the slightly detached actors are the main problem.

curious revenge tale

A curious revenge tale that benefits from some surrealistic and disorienting elements. Highly original and quite brutal at times. But I must admit that none of it really stuck - i am having a hard time remembering it.

Adult enough to avoid horror pitfalls, but doesn't add much either

For the most part it stays away from cheap scares, and has enough confidence to slowly but surely built up the tension and story, and reach a fairly creative reveal. But it fails to get under your skin as it remains slightly tame and suffers from some implausibility.

A naughtly mixture of humor and bloody murder

Successfully plays out comedy and murder throughout the movie in an unusual but successful cocktail.

Attractive mystery let down by words and characters

I love Shyamalan's enticing and mysterious stories, as well as the way he floats the camera through them. So I will probably watch all of them, but unfortunately this one was let down by rather clunky dialogue, delivered unnaturally by odd characters. It felt like watching a play.

Sad horror, but without real impact

It's definitely out of the ordinary. Partly body horror, but I also found something very sad about it. The overall feeling however, is that of a student joke - especially after the end scroll. Somehow all the misery sort of passes you by.

Beautifull but distant

Once again beautifully crafted and a marvel to look at. But once the effect wears off, you're left with 1-dimensional, quite unlikable characters whom it is hard to care for, in a world so exaggerated it is hard to believe in.

A lovely idea loosing focus

The idea of dropping antihero's into an ancient mythological epos is great, and works well in the Norwegian small town atmosphere. But it's like they didn't really know what to do with it, so they resorted to a tedious environmental issue and teenage drama as the most prominent plot points.

Too fast and furious

A colorful blast of action and endless jokes. Maybe I am getting old, but I found everything too fast and insanely frantic, making it impossible to follow and keep up. The few moments of silence (mostly also intended as a joke) felt like I could breathe again.

Decent scifi mystery that fails short of being great

A very decent flick with some nice ideas and a good script. The mystery of what's going on, as well as the performances and darkness were a bit mellow for my taste.

Good not great

It doesn't over-dwell in the misery, and the broken relationship between the two added an effective layer to it. But I thought acting was good but not great, and wondered if it could have been a more profound experience.

An original and pretty good horror

There can be something eerie about many stop motion films, so using it as the basis for a horror is an exciting move. It is well done with stylish and moody imaginary and a good doze of surrealism. Halfway through though, the curve flattens as it sort of goes to autopilot. Still, nice little find

Good, misses some opportunities

A more than decent survival and motherhood story, but it could have been denser and nerve-wrecking in places. Also, there's a twist near the end that could have been huge, but it's almost like they didn't really follow up on it, and went with a rather swampy emotional ending instead.

Mixed up

While it contains several outstanding scenes and sound effects (seismic charge!) to make it worthwhile, it is let down big time by an overload of boring politics, cringe worthy attempts at drama and awkward slapstick.

Slightly sinister animation movie

A nicely animated movie with some anticipated twists in the plot every now and then. Somehow I wasn't completely pulled in by the story, but an enjoyable watch anyway.

It turns out, a decent horror thriller

My finger was resting on the stop button for the first 15 minutes, but then the story, performances and uncomfortable atmosphere materialized and made this a worthwhile movie indeed. May have been limited in budget, but played it out nicely.

Decent little war movie that does things differently.

Overall it doesn't feel very plausible, and some of the combat feels slightly tame and lacking suspense. But it's different, varied and builts up to a unexpectedly large finale and plot twist. An amusing watch for sure.

Good until the actual club shows up

The first half is quite shocking and uneasy, as we're all left in the dark as to what is causing these tragedies. Then the real 'club' shows up, which are terribly annoying characters who do annoying things and form a dissonant wedge from which the film does not recover.

Wicked action saved the mission

One the one hand, we have very peculiar acting, misplaced slo-mo shots and indigestible patriotism and voiceovers. On the other, we have exquisite action scenes and a Call of Duty-style story telling that works very well.

A more personal drama involving time paradoxes

I thought it was an interesting idea to have the effects of messing with time work on a more personal, relational level. And while it certainly works and creates a commendable movie, sometimes it felt more like a family drama and it sort of dozes off.

A more 'classy' slasher.. if that means anything

After a pretty gory and nasty beginning, it switches to a cat-and-mouse game later on, and has a twist on offer as well. It's more intelligent and refined that your average popcorn slasher, but the characters left me somewhat underwhelmed.

Point of view is too boring for what is happening

A darker, more serious version of the original, that is actually quite classy at times. Unfortunately, the story is focused almost entirely at the marketing of Robocop and influencing public opinion about automated crime control, which I did not find the most exciting perspective.

Strange, unpleasant yet secretly fascinating

One of the strangest movies I have seen. I found it an unpleasant experience in ways I had not felt before. Everything is just so confusing, nasty, sweaty and ugly. But at the same time I was fascinated enough to look up the director and will keep track of her future works.

Creepy cult not really creepy

Sure enough, these secluded cults with weird rituals provide some creepiness and anxiety, but I felt that Cage seemed disjointed from it all (running around in a suite for some reason), and the cult almost leaned toward being goofy rather truly scary.

Too nasty

It looks fantastic and was made well. But the brutality and sheer nastiness in the movie left a bad taste in my mouth. I am still having nightmares about Brazen Bulls.

Familair but with it's own sauce

Story wise it is familiar material, but the scares are quite subtle and less hysteric than usual. I liked the Spanish vibe on this and especially the three kids were great. But why it's hailed as one of the scariest movies ever made, I have no idea. The music sounds outdated and isn't helping.

Good heavy duty action with some issues

A commendable action flick with some very well shot, high-octane, hard-hitting brawling going on. After a while though, the man's ability to endure pain and injury gets a bit much, and the annoying acting style of the kid makes it hard to buy into their supposedly developing bond.

restless but satisfying horror and mystery in a distinctive format

The stories are dark and nasty but all have some have a pleasing element of mystery in them, really making you curious. Later on, some smart connections between the stories unfold, which shows they put in some effort instead throwing in random gore. The nervous presentation is a lot, but it worked

Not brilliant, but has plenty of tricks to make it work

People weren't to keen on this comic adaptation, but I am quite ok with it. There's a special kind overacting that seems just right for a movie like this, I liked the dark theme and some of the fx, the clown is just awesome and the movie simply entertains.

Pleasant and intimate modern fairytale

A pleasant modern day fairlytale with an intimate atmosphere and performances. Much more refined than big blockbusters, and the sickness is brought without sugarcoating. It's just that the twist at the end, although I can see the point of it, was somewhat abrupt and left me slightly unfulfilled.
