Plenty to complain about, but enough going for it

Maybe it didn't quite nail the claustrophobic atmosphere the way it could have, it aches towards a B-movie and most characters are unlikable and simplistic. But I gotta say: the overall concept is creepy and done nicely, and the mold/spore enemy original and impressive. Nice music, too

The secret ingredient was missing

One of those curious cases where everything seems to be in place, yet still something's not quite right, and you can't pinpoint what it is. It is made just fine, but I had trouble getting into it, getting exciting by it, and remembering much of it.

Too much?

Despite a couple of awesome scenes and a praiseworthy new tone and style, I felt underwhelmed. I am getting tired of some of the star wars ways, the casino sidestory was awful, I didn't like Luke and I was bored during the endless contemplating of the force and good and evil. It's getting too much.

Intriguing but executed a bit dull

It is hard to follow, but in a nice, mindfuck twisted way, and it is carried on a diligent synth ambient track as well. But something about it is a bit simplistic and uninspired, like the creators were more interested in the idea itself that the presentation of it.

There's something about it

I can't get my head around this one. It is a bit weird, slow, they talk too much and I am not even sure that much happened in this episode. But once it is over, I felt like I had witnessed something deep and profound. The atmosphere in these animated series is just so.. unworldly.

Warm and cozy

It's hard to fault this family-friendly, cozy, good looking and amusing comedy, as they balanced of of these things just about right for the target audience. Personally, I'd like some more edge, but this is probably the wrong movie to ask.

Decent horror in the woods

Overall it does a good job at harvesting the creepiness of woods and witches. Unfortunately, the guys are rather unsympathetic and it's hard to buy into their friendship. It also feels a bit linear; I was waiting for some sort of twist in the story.

Adult enough to avoid horror pitfalls, but doesn't add much either

For the most part it stays away from cheap scares, and has enough confidence to slowly but surely built up the tension and story, and reach a fairly creative reveal. But it fails to get under your skin as it remains slightly tame and suffers from some implausibility.

Not bad for such a wuzz

It lacks soul like i have. In the end, it is human decision making that settles things.

Could have been better meow

This movie needed more latex I could have privided, as well as more meow. Anywway this review is a bit on the long side for testing purposes.

A fair variation on superhero movies

The story is told more interestingly and seriously as the title and subject would have you think, and I quite enjoyed this small but tasteful superhero variation.

Attractive mystery let down by words and characters

I love Shyamalan's enticing and mysterious stories, as well as the way he floats the camera through them. So I will probably watch all of them, but unfortunately this one was let down by rather clunky dialogue, delivered unnaturally by odd characters. It felt like watching a play.

Lots to like, but too vague for it's own good

Another anime that I really wanted to like, with it's classy opening, cool animation and imaginative story. But it's also hard to follow, almost like it is struggling with it's own complexity as everyone keeps explaining stuff. And I HATE ALL ANIME GASPS DEEPLY.

Fine time traveling

For the most part this is quite a charming and sympathetic movie that has it's own time traveling story to tell, without over-complicating things but still challenging you to keep up. I am not so sure about the rather insecure and frequently sobbing main character though.

Good, misses some opportunities

A more than decent survival and motherhood story, but it could have been denser and nerve-wrecking in places. Also, there's a twist near the end that could have been huge, but it's almost like they didn't really follow up on it, and went with a rather swampy emotional ending instead.

Solid chemistry but forgetable

A solid action comedy with good chemistry between the main players. It lacks standout moments though, I have already forgotten this movie.

Familiar, but done right

Although we certainly have seen similar things, I thought this was well above the norm. Apparently there is still merit in horror featuring walking around dark places with flashlights. The atmosphere is creepy and unnerving, and I liked the lead actress slowly loosing her cool.

An original and pretty good horror

There can be something eerie about many stop motion films, so using it as the basis for a horror is an exciting move. It is well done with stylish and moody imaginary and a good doze of surrealism. Halfway through though, the curve flattens as it sort of goes to autopilot. Still, nice little find

Decent little war movie that does things differently.

Overall it doesn't feel very plausible, and some of the combat feels slightly tame and lacking suspense. But it's different, varied and builts up to a unexpectedly large finale and plot twist. An amusing watch for sure.

Disturbing. Good.

An uncomfortable, disturbing, taboo shattering movie that nevertheless remains gripping and within tolerance levels. It even manages to evoke some level of empathy for the outcast.

Easy-going uncomplicated comedy

Original jokes, more than the occasional laugh, and Jennifer Anniston doing lap dances, what else could you possibly want from a movie nowadays?

A feelgood wih a bite

Funny actors, deliciously embarrassing moments and some wicked jokes easily lift this feelgood movie above average.

Some conlicting styles perhaps, but good entertainment

The basic concept of this mysterious old man taking down despicable nazi's in cool ways works for me. But it was too unrealistic to be taken seriously, yet not campy enough for that to be irrelevant. Still, something different with it's own vibe.

Some good laughs

It doesn't get hilarious but is a very funny movie nonetheless.

An above average spirt summoner

Summoning the spirits and the inevitable consequences may be a familiar theme, but I thought this movie had enough ideas of it's own to keep it fresh and interesting. I wish it was scarier though, and that I liked the characters more.

Decent

A decent looking and interesting story with plot twists that, while not completely unexpected, keep things interesting. After a while it started to drag a bit, and I found the visitor so unpleasant and annoying that, instead of sympathizing with her, I wished mother would have gotten rid her.

Touching

The lead actress steals your heart the minute she appears on the screen, and takes you into a funny, touching and quite unique love story. Looses some momentum as it progresses, though

Good fun, but it's really only comedy

Having all female leads was a good move to make it fresh, and overall I had a good time with this colorful and frisky comedy. It's predecessors, however, also threw in some genuine scares in creepiness in the mix, which made for a more exciting, balanced experience than this.

Perfectly fine but not so subtle group dynamics in space

It seems reasonable to deem it "Lord of the flies" in space, and I see no shame in it. I liked it. It's just that the emergence of the 'bad group' seemed forced and rushed. It would have been more interesting if they had genuine and reasonable different views instead of just being jerks.

A well made movie, somehow unable to excite

On the face of it, this was pretty close to a triple A movie. A touching and sincere storyline, impressive CGI and areal shots, and a professional and mature feel to it. Yet somehow, there was something lukewarm about it, unable to really move or excite me. Not quite sure what it was.

Pleasant and intimate modern fairytale

A pleasant modern day fairlytale with an intimate atmosphere and performances. Much more refined than big blockbusters, and the sickness is brought without sugarcoating. It's just that the twist at the end, although I can see the point of it, was somewhat abrupt and left me slightly unfulfilled.

slow but effective

It is pushing the limits of slow burning, and perhaps lacks some focus in the story. But I remained on board the entire time, because I certainly was curious, it is intriguingly uncanny and I really liked the acting of the lead.

Served straight up, which is both good and bad

I was lured into this reading somewhere that it was a cross between western and horror. Wrongly so, because it really is a western with perhaps some gore at the end. It was okay; very linear, straightforward story with no window dressing. This made it pure and natural, but not really exciting.

Good but relies on tricks

I have mixed feelings about the constant voice over. There are only so many ways to depict a driving car, so they desperately needed to alternate with the shots of Mars, which, while atmospheric, felt a bit like cheating. It managed to keep me interested though.

Succesful formula

It successfully prolongs the mixture of snappy action, heaps of humor and self reflection whilst still being exciting the same time. "Do you guys put 'quantum' in front of everything?" Haha.

Beautiful failure

You have to admire the sheer beauty and magnitude of this spectacle. But there is also a feeling of disappointment, as I cannot really get into this movie, feel for any of the characters, appreciate the campy slapstick action or take in the wash of special effects.

Fine scfi, but lacking the right stuff to soar

A decent, fine looking flick that achieves much without over-relying on effects or spectacle. I thought it lacked some finesse, and felt like it reached for some deeper but didn't quite get a grasp. I was also very disappointment with the thing they needed the nuclear battery for.

Original and clever, but drops some balls

Down to the very title, the story and is pretty clever and there's a nice vibe which sets it apart from the norm. The horror is a bit lightweight though, and some of plot twists are brought simply by the characters explaining them to each other standing in circles.

Yes, it is leading somewhere

For while I thought this movie was compensating a lack of substance with long scenes, slow montage and drifting off from the source material. But slowly the realization of what's going on is creeping in, climaxing in the agonizing dinner scene. Not what I thought it would be, but quite decent.

A decent horror drama

More drama than horror, but a feeling of increasing discomfort and dread is unmistakable. Everything is done pretty well, and I liked how the timelines of two perspectives come together. But part of me felt it remained a little lightweight, could have hit harder.

If you needed more of it, then this delivers

I for one missed these guys, and this movie simply delivers a generous portion of everything you love and hate about them, wrapped in a story that's reasonably fresh without ever drifting away from the essence.

Quite a unique survival movie

Indoor survival, what an idea! It's all executed perfectly fine, and Dafoe manages to not overdo the gradually increasing frustration and insanity. Nothing mind-blowing here, but it's a worthwhile and refreshingly different movie for sure.

Moody but a bit too emtpy

With it's moody, grainy colors and images, and continuous dread of the unexplained, this had the potential for being quite an intense, under-your-skin thriller/horror. But unfortunately, the slowish plot and an overall empty feeling ment some of the scares were lost.

Slow, but something is growing

The movie has a very serene atmosphere in which the slow daily life in the woods is portrayed very well, so much so that in fact halfway I almost started to long for some action. But there's a constant under the skin buzz that keeps it mysterious and kept me watching, with memorable performances.

The individual parts are not all that, but as a whole it works

It's quite easy to point out several flaws in it, especially the first half with the endless intercom chatter. But the atmosphere is unique, and pointing out the unrealistic scenes somehow seems irrelevant, as these seem like metaphors for the struggle for womanhood in a male world.

Mostly a decent home invasion movie

I liked the idea of a single, cute girl in a dress facing such dreadful odds, and it certainly has some strong scenes and moments. After a while though, I thought it became a bit directionless, and the surreal dreamy ending felt slapped on without really knowing what it was supposed to mean.

A mood different than others, but lacks involvement

There's a plain, non-sensationalist vibe in the atmosphere and acting, which I liked and which sets the movie apart. The builtup and climax are also shocking enough. But making the main character is such a nasty, hollow, emotionless man works against the movie and the impact it could have had.

Intriguing little UFO tale

I was sort of waiting for a movie like this. Make the UFO secondary, and focus on what it does to people. This one sort of does that, and I was quite amused by it and liked the central role of mathematics. It can feel a bit low budget at times, but overall: yeh, a smart and nice surprise.

as is

The feminine variation on the buddy-cop theme gives it a slight edge over the expected experience: funny but not hilarious, entertaining but not engrossing, good but not great.

Shame about the crew

Perfectly adequate in it's display of deep water fear and claustrophobia, but making all members chagrined assholes probably wasn't the best way to make me care.

Oscar material and it knows it

A slew of triple A actors are seemingly competing for who has the most acting prowess, almost up to the point of overacting. The story is one of those 'little known story that needs to be told' affairs. Undoubtedly a good movie - but there is something very self conscious and Oscar hungry about it.

A novel and well executed horror idea

A bold idea that works surprisingly well and provided a unique scary movie. For sheer originality I wanted to rate this higher, but for that it would have needed more than these unappealing teen characters and a slightly more refined plot.

Layed-back but amusing monster film

I found it to be a bit slow-ish and perhaps lacking some real suspense, but overall there is a nice, friendly atmosphere, a good sense of adventure and some well done monster brawls. Suitable for a younger audience without being childish.

A trip for some of us

Perhaps it is not fair to rate this without having had subtitles, but I doubt it would have made more sense with them. Being uncomfortable, strange and vile, it's hard to rate movies like this. But in the end,I think I appreciate the vision, the boldness and the tripyness about it.

Orginal and brave

This movie strikes some nice chords as it wanders into pleasant absurdity. Gradually, a more standard crime story takes over, which is less appealing by comparison. Still, extra points for originality and courage.

Minimally pulled me through

A low budget affair that is in danger of having way too much time to fill up, and does so with long, overstretched scenes with very little in it. But, they managed to put in enough mystery and anxiety about the ending to make it work and keep me interested. Not too bad!

Simple but effective

It is told in a somewhat plain and unimaginative way, and for the most part feels like a collage of mini story's leading to a jump-scare. But the pieces do come together, and the movie did work. It has a uncanny atmosphere without being hysteric about it, and the scares came through alright.

Nice hell

The movie delivers quite chilling and imaginative visions of hell, and the biblical and historical references give it intelligence and depth. However [SPOILER], the fact the Dante just hacks his way through any and all kinds of demons without ever getting into real trouble means it lacked tension.

A pretty good and pretty original horror

This movie manages to overcome my allergy of horror movies with those witty, young, beautiful perfect people, and delivers a pretty solid and entertaining watch, with some gore, mystery and reasonably fresh ideas. I loved the mimicry concept in here.

Refreshingly mad

While it may have some trouble keeping the simple setup engaging the whole time, I did find that this is a wonderfully crazy and refreshing flick. It has a nice dash of horror and scifi elements, but is mostly suitable for those seeking something absurd and trippy.

I just wish it was nastier

It's a great idea that will yield a few laughs. But ironically, it's not really funnier than the movies it is making fun of, and even comes up with the very moral lesson I thought it was revolting against.

An original but sterile scifi drama

These series score with originality, a gloomy atmosphere and a couple of interesting storylines. However, the scenery, characters and atmosphere are so ice-cold and sterile that it is hard to empathize any with it - nor did I find everything very logical.

Stylish violent action, if not a bit repetitive

A violent movie with a gloomy and sweaty atmosphere and bucket loads of style. After a while though, the endless shootouts, and the mobsters' tendency to run into the hitman's arms without shooting, got a bit tiresome.

More of the same

I could see all the things I loved about the original, yet I felt a bit indifferent about it without knowing exactly why. I guess it really is more of the same, which - even if that means more of a good thing - means the initial excitement is not here. But hey: it's still a dazzling lego movie!

A really mixed bag

It's more mature, confident and less hysteric than most superhero movies, due to restrained superpowers and lots of attention to the story. But, all characters are flat and unlikable, and the brawls are a bit tedious. This quality popcorn amusement feels like it could have been more than that.

Sassy and snappy

A sassy and snappy little movie that successfully mixes humor, action and some mystery. It just never reaches soaring highs in any of those fields.

Many great laughs eventually fade away

I laughed out loud several times in the beginning, which is quite rare these these days. But as it retreats to it's story and morals, it looses much momentum and becomes a little basic yet again. I wonder if movies like these could just forget about the plot and just have fun the entire time.

Decent for sure, but somehow didn't really land

I quite like how it is built around more personal and intimate stories of several people involved, and was impressed by the glider footage. However, it suffers a bit from the "we have just a few sets and locations" sensation of smallness, and somehow it didn't really pack a punch emotionally.

A pleasant scif mystery

An amusing scifi thriller with a pleasant mellow atmosphere and enough question marks too keep you attached. Through it's fanatic attempts to deliver unexpected twist, it did become rather far fetched and illogical at times.

Bit boring movie with good acting

The movie provides an overview of the impressive achievements of Alan Turing during World War 2, as well as aspects of his personal life afterwards. Great role by Cumberbatch, but the pace is rather slow and I actually almost fell asleep towards the end (although it was also rather late).

The core of the franchise

The story serves as a carrier to deliver oodles of John Wick-style fights and not much else. It can be a bit too much and absurd at times, but I must say there is also something mesmerizing and satisfying about these endless, beautifully choreographed, flowing violent dances of death.

Gloomy and effective but not very involving

It's good to see some dark, well-acted, sweaty, and straight up bad cop action again, with effective action/violence because it doesn't want to over dramatize or orchestrate anything. It would have helped though, if we knew a little bit more about these guys so we can sympathize a little better.

Quite good for what it is

Overall, this mixture of bad movie making, bloody horror, crap fx and boobs (and other genitalia) make for some for remarkably satisfying brainless popcorn entertainment.

West Side Story turned on it's head

It's a wonderful movie with a big heart, but the lovestory in it just doesn't quite reach the same level as the visuals and original ideas.

Succesful slasher

While I suspect fans of the original have plenty to complain about, in itself I found this to be a fairly solid slasher movie. It has some good gore, and the tension in some scenes is well done and certainly above average.

Frantic fun

A bubbly and perky move that is good for a few laughs. It is really up to date with internet fun, memes and mobile phone lifestyle (So it will be obsolete a few years from now). Like other Sony movies, such as Hotel Transylvania, it is very fast and hysteric, sometimes tiring me down.

More clean and comprehensible, but at the cost of atmosphere

I enjoyed another round of the adventures of this fabulous team. There is plenty of cool stuff in there, and I could actually follow the story this time. The graphics however, while crisp and clear, are also a bit lifeless, and the major somehow lost her mojo for me - even if she is an android.

Ultrapainful and hard to watch, with no payoff or clue to any of it

I was never drawn to torture movies, and by God I hope this is the most painful one in existence. I am giving this 7 points for it is not necessarily badly made, it managed to rattle me inside, made me look away and almost made me give up entirely. But that does not mean I recommend viewing it.

Appealing forbidden fruit, but did not fill me up

I dig this strange word, including the body horror and filth, simply as break from the mainstream. But I did not find it really engaging. Perhaps because we are simply thrown into the weirdness without a narrative, but more importantly the characters themselves seemed apathetic about it too.

Too fast and furious

A colorful blast of action and endless jokes. Maybe I am getting old, but I found everything too fast and insanely frantic, making it impossible to follow and keep up. The few moments of silence (mostly also intended as a joke) felt like I could breathe again.

I liked the original Mad Max movies more....

This was actually rather good

A great movie that is balanced right, looks tight and manages to maintain a sense of depth and style throughout the machine-flesh mayhem. I also liked how Max himself was a bit off, unconventional hero. A bit mad indeed, and therefore more interesting than your average hero.

A sober and intriguing tale

This movie is at times very good looking - some of the indoor shots look like paintings - which help to set the mysterious mood. The story is intriguing enough. Part of me likes the fact that they kept it simple, fitting with the lives portrayed, another part wishes it had an extra layer or twist.

The same old mistakes

A dark atmosphere and some hefty gung-ho warfare could have made this intense, were it not for the inevitable patriotism and flag waving, annoying Hollywood plot conveniences and stereotype terrorists (oh come on - nuclear launch codes, again?).

Slow paced movie with a rather straightforward plot, nevertheless managed to keep my attention. Interesting insight into moral issues that people are facing while struggling forward in current day society.

Still feeling slightly nauseous....

Although it has been quite some time since I actually watched this movie, I still get an awkward feeling remembering the gross scenes. Which is, on the other hand, rather impressive since I do not associate many movies with such enduring and intense (negative) emotions....

A horrendous but lasting experience

Effortlessly falls into the category: why the hell did they make this... and why the hell am I watching this? Painful, vulgar and almost unbearable to watch. But I remember it better than the average multimilliondollar super FX movie that I have seen lately.

Sympathetic but hollow

I liked the idea of focusing on just one case amidst a global zombie mayhem, and Schwarzenegger is probably at his best ever. Ultimately though, I thought there was a lack of substance and depth, and the pretty shots starting feeling as a coverup for a slightly empty shell.

A step closer to a good videogame movie

With a promising beginning, overall high production standards, appearance of several game characters and even some fatalities (which are oddly more gutting in the game than in the movie) this was close to an actual decent game movie. But the dull, flat characters and story again let it down badly.

Not as unbearable as I hoped for

A bold idea, but the lead actress was unable to convey her dread and dismay to the screen, the dialogue with her 'ghosts' seemed a bit childish and like a play, and the twist at the very end seemed unnecessary and farfetched.

Just enjoy the pretty graphics

Some stunning and quite unique 3d designs can't make up for the usual overacted, over dramatic way everyone behaves. And a pirate ship that is literally indestructible isn't really helping to make the otherwise vivid combat scenes exciting.

Too much cartoon people to be scary

I think it has that distinctive style of Stephen King, featuring a group of various very talkative and exaggerated characters arguing and contemplating as they face this ordeal. Almost like watching a play. Somehow it drains most of the tension, and left me slightly amused rather than scared.

Great idea doesn't quite deliver

A clever idea that could have yielded some scary footage. Unfortunately, the teens in question are bit bland and unsympathetic, their efforts for this stunt are a bit over the top, and once inside it's a bit too messy and rushed to deliver true scares. Should have been toned down a little.

Weird filth that does what it wants and I commend them for it

This was sort of rebellious and liberating in a way, but perhaps that's just because I watched too many generic and formulaic Hollywood movies lately. Sure it is bad, trashy and bizarre, but somehow it doesn't care and I sort of enjoyed the audacity of it.

Fresh, but should have been better

It's a nifty combination of tech, occult and horror and I liked it. It's just unfortunate that it failed to really make an impression or become really scary. Like the story required some more twists and layers, and should have 'aged' more before making the movie.

Great idea, executed so-so

It focuses more on psychological drama than horror of science fiction, and rightly so. It's an exciting concept that unfortunately doesn't really take off. The characters are not really likeable, and the story is a bit of hit and miss. One of those movies you think could have been much better.

Some scares, a lot of annoyances

They sure know how to do good scares, and there's some nice ideas for the story framework as well. But the present-past alternations gets tiresome quickly, and I was totally put off by the analytical, cold and utterly unconvincing attitude and going-about of the (present day) sister.

Over dramatized

The landing appears faithfully recreated and was thrilling to see, but the events surrounding it felt over dramatized. Also, the research committee seemed strangely angry and eager to discredit the pilot's doings, and almost started crying when they couldn't. What??

Ok humor space adventure

A reasonable adventure with a few good laughs, but overal it sort of lacked the spark is paced a bit too slow.

Somewhat refreshing but not quite terrifying

Never seen the manga it was based on, so I can't comment on that. I thought it was a reasonably fresh horror with some new ideas and twists that make it worthwhile, but the atmosphere was not menacing or scary; It was reminiscent of the Gremlins and Critters-style 'fun' horror, suitable for minors.

Unique but a bit minimal

The combination of puppets a realistic dialogue makes for a unique vibe, and they sure have cooked up an interesting atmosphere. Unfortunately, sometimes I wondered how long I needed listen to the endless chit chat, and it seem they touched some deeper themes but didn't follow through on them
