Wonderful space entertainment with some non-lethal flaws

Sure there are problems; it doesn't really enter your heart, and the frantic action can be hard and tiring to follow. Make no mistake though, as this is a grand deluxe space opera spectacle with a story, design, scale, characters and fantasyworld to rival Starwars.

Wonderfull movie that had even more potential

Great idea, beautifully done in a movie with a big heart. I thought the pacing was not quite right and it could/should have been even more magical.

Full of good things

It was quite heavy on sub stories and plots, risking convolution and hysteria. But luckily it manages to stay on the good side of things, keeping everything on rails and delivering colorful, whack fun and expanding on the franchise's unique humor, graphics and (80s!) vibe.

Survives its many flaws

I wish the superpowers were a little less extreme, the science a bit more refined, the pacing a but more delicate. It's also unfortunate that the superpowers are only used for fighting goons, not something more poetic. Despite all that, it still is a very entertaining, smart and quite a cool movie.

Impressively acted drama

A small, uncomplicated story that works because of slew of actors at the top of their game and an intimate, delicate atmosphere. It never becomes over-dramatic and it dares to be quite and just let the silence, expressions and stares speak for themselves.

Moody en interesting mystery

It can be a tad sluggish, and I sometimes became frustrated with the incomplete and vague way people talked. Mostly though, the story is intriguing, and the easy going pace combined the Icelandic setting created a lovely, mysterious glow.

Refreshingly nasty

With his bad mouth, self awareness, humor and ultra cool action scenes, Dead Pool is a breath of fresh air amidst his unbearably boring Marvel colleagues. Story wise, it could step up a bit though as that felt shallow and plain.

Fine heavy duty action

Movies that occur in a single place can feel somewhat cheap. But I quite enjoyed this moody, dark, heavy action flick with some beautiful slo-mo scenes and sounds.

A very decent in between scifi with good ideas

Original science fiction mystery that gradually evolves into an action thriller. It is quite nice indeed, but could have hit harder by exploring this profound premise and what it might do to people mentally.

Nice small-town cosmic horror

A nicely done movie with some cosmic horror and mystery, a lovely 'something is off' vibe, good 'rural town' atmosphere and a lead actress who manages to gain sympathy despite playing quite a nasty person. A nice treat indeed.

Minimalistic but not

The cinematography is as sober and plain as the cult members live their lives. It's almost a collage of images and unspoken emotions instead of a traditional story, but you still can feel the revolution building up beneath the skin. Good.

A bold idea done pretty well

A bold and interesting idea, but will looking at the same confined woman for an entire movie be interesting enough? During the first half I wasn't sure, but then it comes up with enough twists and some impressive shots to make it work. Not by a huge margin, but certainly enough.

Original and exciting ride

While the zombie behavior seemed a little outdated and borderline caricature, this movie offers a lot of thrilling and quite original scenes that kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.

Dark and unpleasant but somehow very relevant too

Darker than the previous one, (even) more difficult to digest too. But something about it feels relevant and it is quite an intense experience that keeps you gazing in awe.

Cool man

A stylish, fresh movie with some very cool fighting scenes and a nice mix of sci-fi, action and some humor.

Tremendous fun and adventure. A success.

Me and my wife agreed that the balance between action/chase scenes and supernatural historical mystery could perhaps be opposite of what it is, but this is entertaining and fun, pretty much the way it should be. Whether it truly has lasting standout moments, I am not sure.

Effective and subtle

There's something small and simple about this oddly titled horror, which makes it subtle, intimate and quite intriguing. There's not much standard horror mayhem, but rather a sense of discomfort and mystery. Quiet nicely done, I must say,

A strangely presented and dark tale, that gets to you nonetheless

I needed some getting used to the stiff, strangely brought dialogues from some characters, but eventually this added to a uncomfortable, disconnected, but intriguing atmosphere. The boy's behavior really makes you anxious, as does the dark story as whole.

A competent mix of horror, thriller and drama that's different and refreshing, and has several satisfying plot twists on offer. The 'rewinding' sounds and sights seemed below the class of this movie, but that's about it.

Dialogues not overly succesful, but the rest is

The dialogue can by long, stiff and unnatural. But the wonderful imagery, music, mysterious atmosphere and mesmerizing scenes of future Japan still make it an intriguing experience.

Good satire with an undertone

It's basically an amusing political commentary that is is exaggerated and sensational on the one hand, but uncomfortably recognizable and realistic on the other.

Stylish and focussed

Instead of getting overly smart with the premise, or making it a gimmicky science fiction, it keeps focus on the main story and a few central characters, and makes it all very classy, mysterious and sometimes dark movie indeed.

A fun ride if you can handle it

I should probably be complaining about the violence, lack of character development (yawn) and that how you'll get dizzy and exhausted from the restless camera. But I actually had a blast watching this. It is different, cool and highly entertaining.

A strange but tasty slowburner

A well-acted and mysterious flick that makes you sense something is wrong way before it is. It is slow and without a manual, but near the end you wind up so clueless that it leaves a slightly unrewarding feeling though.

I quite liked this

This worked remarkably well. It uses the superman foundation but takes it a whole new direction with tasteful suspense, some horror, some scifi and nice characters whilst still keeping it compact and intimate.

Touching and intimate parenthood story with a cool context

I was lured into this by Eva Green, space and the awesome trailer music (which shadows Ryuichi Sakamoto's slightly lazy soundtrack). But what is is mostly is a struggle of career, dreams and parenthood, and a pretty good one at that. But I still want a 'real' Eva Green space movie.

Good WW2 movie with a dash of mystery

An intense and sometimes gruesome looking WW2 flick that can be a bit slow at times, but compensates with a nice mixture of mystery, war, interesting characters and a diverging but well done ending.

Light hearted drama that is actually worth a watch

Sympathetic movie with a touching story based on true events (including the dubious role of the catholic church in child adoptions in Ireland), and very convincing acting by Judi Dench. Ideal movie for men who want to show their partner they actually have a sensitive side as well....

A reboot done well, good stuff for the fans

Clearly made with much love and respect for the original, with no Americanism in sight. Effects strike a balance between the original feel of the movies and modern techniques, without drowning in CGI coldness. The bureaucratic struggle to get anything done in time was a nice framework.

Clever survival story

Although the numerous flashbacks sometimes get in the way of the action, they are also a clever way too tell a survival story in a broad sense of the word. I guess it makes sense that you spend a lot of time with your thoughts in a situation like this. Nice.

It can be liked!

Apparently I am the only one who likes this movie. But heck: it's an exciting story, the performances are fine and it contains some terrifying and unrivaled footage of disasters. I even liked the ending too, it is pretty!

A cool anime deserving a better title

This oddly titled anime features some beautiful and moody drawings, exiting action, great music and snappy sound effects. On top of that, the story has some depth and interest, so this added up to a rather enjoyable package.

Simple idea brought to live succesfully by Carrey's skills

Carrey is at the top of his game here, and whether you like his style or not, the way he puts it down really was very funny and unique to me. This movie has a sense of fun and flow that modern comedy's lack. Even the inevitable moral to it all is actually (and luckily) quite restrained.

Mean and original

Apart from a slowish middle section, it's a wicked, smart and playfull timetravel movie.

Nice, but not all the way

A very charming, sympathetic and occasionally very sexy movie. The atmosphere of these teenagers plowing through the night is neat. Unfortunately, it can't maintain the magic all the way through, and even deteriorates some of it with dissonant elements like the soccermatch and kung-fu kid.

A good movie about something bad

Needless to say a rather depressing affair, but it isn't dwelling in it's misery. There's a (intentional?) contrast with the sunny beach, mellow light and ordeal that is taking place. The developing relationship with the ruthless captain and the boys worked for me.

Gorgeous to look at, with really decent shark terror as well

This is beautifully shot and was made with much finesse. At times, the imagery of the ocean feels like living paintings. Acting and thrills are also good, making this one of the better sharks movies out there.

A bold slaughterfest with eighties vibe

There's plenty of shock value, with executions that are bloody and painful the watch. They also managed to set up an eighties vibe by the colors used, and perhaps even the acting style. But I also felt is was a bit long and pointless.

A pleasant mystery

The mystery of not quite getting what is going on really adds to suspense and intrigue and this stylish scifi. Low profile in an effective way, but the many long scenes can be a bit much at times.

Bit weird and unsettling, but nevertheless interesting and sensual

A must see for those interested in original alien movies, Scarlett Johansson, or both. Partially filmed with standard digital cameras, providing a successfull hidden camera experience. Visual effects from the eighties and creepy sounds throughout the movie provide the cherry on top.

Good, suffering somewhat from a clear story

I had a hard time describing and remembering the story, which illustrates it's main problem: there's a lack of focus or a clear narrative, and several ideas, like Moloch himself, feel thrown in. Still, there is an awesome setting, it has pleasant, natural characters and plenty of worthwhile moments.

Pretty fly

Some characters can be a bit manga-crincy as expected (especially the women), but it has stuff to make up for it: exciting space battles and weaponry, a well developed atmosphere, and very imaginative, strange and impressive (dare I say scary?) gauna monsters indeed.

Just fine

A wholesome and warm feelgood movie that is hard to fault. The Italian setting and vibe is a nice extra touch which gives it some personality and validity. Can't say much bad about it really, although personally I would have liked a bit more edge and risk.

A little scifi gem

It's a bit campy and occasionally borderline B-movie-ish. But it never crosses that line, instead delivering many memorable and well done scifi moments, some great designs and humor that works.

The Tarantino of highschool movies

The constant and lengthy foul-mouthed dialogues and contemplations create an atmosphere reminiscent of Tarantino movies. It's kind of like an adult version of highschool movies. Cool.

A very decent sci-fi action thriller.

If you manage to NOT see this as a reboot, it's a fine sci-fi action flick with some great designs.

If you see it you might need therapy also

A weird ass trip of the first kind, in which you mostly have to figure out for yourself what to make of it as you are being sedated by the psychedelic colors and imagery. Its crawling pace is both a strength and weakness. Not for everyone, but I was quite hooked indeed.

Over the top science fiction action movie (in a good way)

A bit too much of everything, but somehow just right because of that!

Take some time to let it sink in, and start enjoying

Not familiar with this comic, I feared I'd never get into this unexplained stream of weirdness. But the humor, vivid space combat action and sympathetic characters grew on me and left me quite entertained indeed.

Okay these guys are tough

As these men are battered & bruised, smashed against rocks, cornered and shot, the increasing dread of death and hopelessness comes across very well. Intense movie that stuck for a while.

Shoot 'em up between navy seals and taliban

Main part of the movie consists of Americans and Taliban chasing, shooting, injuring and killing eachother. Apparently a navy seal can sustain more injury than Iron Man ("is there a bullet in my head?"). Overall an okay movie for those of us not easily scared by bloody scenes.

Sligthly unemotional

An impressive story that is filmed tidily and with class, yet is a somewhat numb and flat experience, making it miss out on the impact it should have had.

Decent scifi survival adventure

I thought it was an original and good looking adventure that kept me interested all the way.

I just wish it was nastier

It's a great idea that will yield a few laughs. But ironically, it's not really funnier than the movies it is making fun of, and even comes up with the very moral lesson I thought it was revolting against.

An original but sterile scifi drama

These series score with originality, a gloomy atmosphere and a couple of interesting storylines. However, the scenery, characters and atmosphere are so ice-cold and sterile that it is hard to empathize any with it - nor did I find everything very logical.

Nice hell

The movie delivers quite chilling and imaginative visions of hell, and the biblical and historical references give it intelligence and depth. However [SPOILER], the fact the Dante just hacks his way through any and all kinds of demons without ever getting into real trouble means it lacked tension.

A pretty good and pretty original horror

This movie manages to overcome my allergy of horror movies with those witty, young, beautiful perfect people, and delivers a pretty solid and entertaining watch, with some gore, mystery and reasonably fresh ideas. I loved the mimicry concept in here.

Guilty pleasure

I liked it. Brutal, dumb, heavy duty action with some laughs thrown in.

Refreshingly mad

While it may have some trouble keeping the simple setup engaging the whole time, I did find that this is a wonderfully crazy and refreshing flick. It has a nice dash of horror and scifi elements, but is mostly suitable for those seeking something absurd and trippy.

Majestic saga lost in space

It had everything you could possibly wish for: spaceships, droids, lightsabers, jedi's, aliens and saga. It has a phenomenal pod race. But because of multiple factors, it is a somewhat dull experience.

Decent for sure, but somehow didn't really land

I quite like how it is built around more personal and intimate stories of several people involved, and was impressed by the glider footage. However, it suffers a bit from the "we have just a few sets and locations" sensation of smallness, and somehow it didn't really pack a punch emotionally.

A pleasant scif mystery

An amusing scifi thriller with a pleasant mellow atmosphere and enough question marks too keep you attached. Through it's fanatic attempts to deliver unexpected twist, it did become rather far fetched and illogical at times.

The core of the franchise

The story serves as a carrier to deliver oodles of John Wick-style fights and not much else. It can be a bit too much and absurd at times, but I must say there is also something mesmerizing and satisfying about these endless, beautifully choreographed, flowing violent dances of death.

Gloomy and effective but not very involving

It's good to see some dark, well-acted, sweaty, and straight up bad cop action again, with effective action/violence because it doesn't want to over dramatize or orchestrate anything. It would have helped though, if we knew a little bit more about these guys so we can sympathize a little better.

More of the same

I could see all the things I loved about the original, yet I felt a bit indifferent about it without knowing exactly why. I guess it really is more of the same, which - even if that means more of a good thing - means the initial excitement is not here. But hey: it's still a dazzling lego movie!

Nice, but could have used a smarter story

Funny and witty spoof of contemporary politics, that's probably not far from the truth either. Slightly let down by a simplistic and predictable story.

More clean and comprehensible, but at the cost of atmosphere

I enjoyed another round of the adventures of this fabulous team. There is plenty of cool stuff in there, and I could actually follow the story this time. The graphics however, while crisp and clear, are also a bit lifeless, and the major somehow lost her mojo for me - even if she is an android.

Ultrapainful and hard to watch, with no payoff or clue to any of it

I was never drawn to torture movies, and by God I hope this is the most painful one in existence. I am giving this 7 points for it is not necessarily badly made, it managed to rattle me inside, made me look away and almost made me give up entirely. But that does not mean I recommend viewing it.

So close to being great

This would have been a bomb if it had a more original, imaginative story. Now it's just a good, quite scary and beautiful looking movie.

The kids deliver

Not sure it needed those shaky camera shots, on top of an already restless story that is literally allover the place. Mostly though, this is a highly sympathetic, nicely done scifi adventure which radiates the same positive energy as E.T. and Super 8.

Appealing forbidden fruit, but did not fill me up

I dig this strange word, including the body horror and filth, simply as break from the mainstream. But I did not find it really engaging. Perhaps because we are simply thrown into the weirdness without a narrative, but more importantly the characters themselves seemed apathetic about it too.

Good yet linear and flat

Well made, acted and tightly shot, it is let by a very slow middle section, a failure to evoke deeper emotions and a rather uninspired depiction of the plagues, as if they are checking them out on a list; Yeh ok so that's the frogs, what's next? How many more?

Succesful slasher

While I suspect fans of the original have plenty to complain about, in itself I found this to be a fairly solid slasher movie. It has some good gore, and the tension in some scenes is well done and certainly above average.

Half great, half ok

Starts of terrifying indeed. But then the inevitable ghost expert team moves in and sort of break the tension with misguided humor, along with the cliched medium and a tacky explanation for it all, and it sort of drifts into a slightly messy Poltergeist clone.

Frantic fun

A bubbly and perky move that is good for a few laughs. It is really up to date with internet fun, memes and mobile phone lifestyle (So it will be obsolete a few years from now). Like other Sony movies, such as Hotel Transylvania, it is very fast and hysteric, sometimes tiring me down.

Interesting

At first I was put off by the cliched revolt of lowerclass people in dirty clothes and low lighting conditions. But as they fight their way to the higher class front of the train, color comes in literally and figuratively, bringing to live this interesting metaphor of real live society.

A sober and intriguing tale

This movie is at times very good looking - some of the indoor shots look like paintings - which help to set the mysterious mood. The story is intriguing enough. Part of me likes the fact that they kept it simple, fitting with the lives portrayed, another part wishes it had an extra layer or twist.

Unique, uncomfortably funny

An oddball movie with a strange but ultimately successful combination of comedy, violence and utterly boring vacation trips.

Too fast and furious

A colorful blast of action and endless jokes. Maybe I am getting old, but I found everything too fast and insanely frantic, making it impossible to follow and keep up. The few moments of silence (mostly also intended as a joke) felt like I could breathe again.

The good bits are mostly a side dish

With almost every scene a piece of art, this is quiet a looker. The ghost scenes were great too. But the story holding it together is mostly a costume drama of love, crime and passion, which I found quite slow and pale by comparison. I really liked Jessica Chastain's performance, though

Too super

A good-looking fun ride which radiates positive energy. But gees, with so many superpowers combined, a truly exciting confrontation with evil is out of the equation. It's also too plain silly to be really exciting.

Kills it's darlings

Much to my regret, this movie kills most it's wonderful, imaginative and tasteful scenes, by endlessly dwelling in them. The unprofessional and unlikely science guy and his motivations are also a dissonant I wished they had left out. Too bad, as this had potential for becoming a mesmerizing gem.

A modest horror with it's own style, but a bit thin on substance

This is a nice, modest mystery with a dash of horror but nothing hysteric. The atmosphere is moody and the central theme of eating and food is lain out well. However, it is dangerously close to being rather uneventful, and can feel kind of improvised as it tries to reach the end.

Something borrowed, something new

Although it uses some familiar ideas and scares, it also manages to have a story and atmosphere of it's own. Nothing spectaculair perhaps, but certainly a well rounded package and decent horror at that.

Sympathetic, fun and over the top

Like many superhero movies, it gets a bit too much and over the top as it moves towards the end (drum playing octopus did it for me) But I must say this has a heart at the right place, Aquaman and others were very likable, and overall it's an unpretentious fun adventure I enjoyed.

Decent, but left a slighly unfinished feeling

Without overreaching within a limited budget, this manages to setup quiet a modest but enticing story and mood to make you curious. It can be a bit sluggish though and, while I find the open ended nature fitting, it did feel like it was a a bit insecure about it's own plot and meaning.

Strong beginning, medium remainders

I liked the beginning the best, as it is quite creepy and unnerving. After that, it looses this and switches to mystery/drama that I found less compelling but quite interesting nonetheless. I read about all sorts of double meanings you could attribute to this movie, but for me it is what it is.

Typical Woody Allen movie?

I heard rumours that some Woody Allen movies are actually not that bad. This certainly is a movie aimed at character building and slow story telling, but nevertheless kept me interested till the last scene. Eventually, I even felt sorry for the main character, played by Cate Blanchett.

Not brilliant, but has plenty of tricks to make it work

People weren't to keen on this comic adaptation, but I am quite ok with it. There's a special kind overacting that seems just right for a movie like this, I liked the dark theme and some of the fx, the clown is just awesome and the movie simply entertains.

More interesting than scary

A combination of natural acting and convincing effects create some effective WTF moments. Well done, but it wasn't really scary - mostly because they seem sort of ok with the transformation.

Good, but may have lost the effect it once had

I'd be happy to acknowledge the impact that this slowly unfolding and psychological horror must have had back in the days, and I quite enjoyed it as well. But in the now, I found the bigger part of it very chatty and the climax barely making up for it.

A fine horror that manages to set itself apart

Although it does not offer anything radically new - but which horror does - the intimate atmosphere, the genuine characters and a tendency towards true tension over cheap jump scares (of which there are some), make it a worthwhile little horror. But geez, go easy on the cute baby sounds.

Entertaining blood fountains

For the most part I was very entertained by the bizarre atmosphere and blood fountains. It's a nice doze of insanity that is so over the top you can enjoy without remorse. After a while though, it did get a bit pointless and clueless.

The end of the world should have been nicer

Good to see people preparing for the end of the world in a reasonably calm and peaceful fashion for once. Starts of great, but then sort of loses it's pace and is neither witty or dramatic enough to really keep interest. I couldn't really attach to either of the main characters or their supposed relationship.

Novel en successful idea approach to a horror flick

Probably a rehash of part 1, but since I have not yet seen that, I will honor this one for the brave, effective and chilling way of telling a horror story. The actual events and pacing are a bit under powered for it to become truly terrifying, though.

Original, funky and violent

A mixture of some pretty grim action and violence with 'hip' characters, music and wacky titles. For a moment I was afraid the latter was a mask to hide mediocrity, but I have the say Mikkelsen's oodles of charisma, as well as a decent plot twist at the end, make it rise above the norm.

Familair but with it's own sauce

Story wise it is familiar material, but the scares are quite subtle and less hysteric than usual. I liked the Spanish vibe on this and especially the three kids were great. But why it's hailed as one of the scariest movies ever made, I have no idea. The music sounds outdated and isn't helping.

It mixes a lot of themes with varying levels of success. There's horror, but also humor, mystery and sometimes it's almost a children's movie. Likewise it is mixed in quality. Sometimes creative and intense, but quite slow and a bit dorky at others. But it does have a unique vibe that sets it apart.

Also a ferocious battle between great CGI and a great movie

Even a spectacle of this caliber, with such magnificent visuals, still would need a better story and characters to leave a lasting impression and score higher. But the dumb 'n fun factor sort of works here.

Over aware of it's uniqueness

A courageous and unique movie that dares to be different and strange. Beautiful and meaningful on the one hand, but hardly subtle as the symbolism is sort of rammed damned your throat and feels slightly too pleased with itself.

A unique but tasty cocktail

A remarkable mix of (hard-hitting) home invasion, fairytale folklore horror and perhaps even contemplations about manhood. Even the tone varies from scene to scene. But all in all, it sort of worked. Not a masterpiece, but highly amusing and quite intense at times.

Beautiful and intriguing animation

Drawn in a beautiful minimalist but expressive style, tastefully flavored with some supernatural elements and manages to make you curious even if nothing is being said. That's quite something, even if the open ended nature felt a little easy to me.

Solid

A somewhat uncomfortable mix of blood spills and goofy humor degrade this otherwise solid and gun fun action movie.
