A mature and pretty Anime, with some problems

While there are some anime annoyances, like bizarre behavior of all females, this had quite a mature, restrained atmosphere in which the Gundam action was secondary. I couldn't quite follow it, but was impressed by some gorgeous visuals (like nature and downtown cities) as well as the music.

A tough but rewarding watch

A painful and depressing movie for sure, but I like how the way various layers of the story unveil. And just when I started wondering if there would be any redemption to all the suffering, comes a reveal that magically makes the whole thing become coherent, satisfying and even... beautiful?

Blood, horror, and torture: at least I warned you

Lots of blood, torture and some horror elements in a movie that you will probably still remember years from now, but whish you wouldn't.

Unpleasant weekend trip

Things really go south, and you really feel for the couple as it goes from spoiling to terrorizing and worse. Making the gang all kids makes it all very uncomfortable, as you want them to smash their heads against a rock but they sort of can't.

Simple but highly enjoyable

I guess it's guilty of doing some dinosaur cliche's, and perhaps we won't ever be impressed by them again as we once did. But I liked seeing them in a different scifi context, and I also thought the movie was a simple but very solid and amusing ride. Adam manages to elevate it far above pulp.

For a sequel, this seems about right!

While it won't yield the awe of the first one, simply because we are used to it, I'd say it quite successfully finds a balance between delivering what made the first one so good, and introducing a new story, plenty of memorable moments and some new fun characters.

Chest pounding action with suprisingly restrained Bayism

The beginning was restless for the wrong reasons, everyone was chatting and doing stuff I could not follow. There's also a fair dose of Bay kitsch en patriotism, albeit less than I expected. But it's still an intense adrenaline rush - so much so that I had trouble falling asleep afterwards.

Cheesy at it's best

Even when it was made, it already was silly, cheesy and ridiculous as can be. But it also managed to be an irresistible and charming combination of fun and dumb action that make it a classic. Every time I stumble upon it, I just cannot switch it of.

An intense and probably revealing inside look full of contrasts

I found it especially good at creating contrasts: how the atmosphere changes before, during and after a shoot, and how she continues to pursue her ambitions despite the demeaning and sometimes brutal treatment. The clean, observant, non-dramatic style makes it feel like a documentary.

Classy version

It's at it's best when it patiently explores the uncanny feeling of someone being in your house, without resorting to cheesy effects of cheap scares. Later on it turns into more gimmicky cat-and-mouse affair, but still with plenty of class. Great lead actress, too!

Unique, dark and bright

While the viral success and hype it generated may seem a bit much, I would agree that it is a fresh, well made series that make you eager for the next episode. The bright colors contrast nicely with the dark theme, you get to like the protagonists and loathe the bad ones.

Light hearted drama that is actually worth a watch

Sympathetic movie with a touching story based on true events (including the dubious role of the catholic church in child adoptions in Ireland), and very convincing acting by Judi Dench. Ideal movie for men who want to show their partner they actually have a sensitive side as well....

Bad ass

Godzilla is only showed sparingly, instead building up mystery and an ominous atmosphere surrounding his presence. It has gorgeous drawings of awesomely designed space warfare in it. So all in all, despite the usual hysteric acting, I thought this was rather successful and was quite impressed.

A very decent if not somewhat inplausible mystery/horror

When I thought about this movie afterwards, I started feeling the story was rather far fetched in places, but this didn't bother when I watched it. Instead, I rather enjoyed the ominous mood, the tasteful reli-creepiness and the cold scenery.

Well done despite limited resources

It feels a bit low-budget and simplistic at times, but it still hits the mark at exploring this phenomenon and incorporating it into a very entertaining, thought-provoking movie. It had me look into this stuff afterwards and check the Monopoly guy for sure.

Kitchy, unique and atmospheric

I almost could not get over the heinous, ridiculous way the crew looked (especially Mack!), but realized it matched with the oddly unique, kitschy interior of the spaceship, creating a unique vibe. I really liked this show, with an interesting story, a great finale and fantastic music.

It will pull you in, too

I didn't want to go see this movie, but the terrifying story and suspense did keep me glued to the screen. The confusing ending with mixed memories from a past wasn't really necessary.

Party sucked, movie did not

One of those movies that plays out in a single place with a single group of people, and a good one at that. The main goal of slowly building up a feeling of discomfort and anxiety to resolve what's going on is successfully achieved by the fine actors, story and no frills.

As good as you could hope for

A fine sequel. I liked how the visualized the internet. It doesn't, however, manage to overcome the sequel curse and bring back the magical atmosphere, or the refined and diverse story line from the first part.

A succesfull approach for a subject like this

I needed some time to make up my mind. Never quite sure whether it is erotic or just plain nasty, whether it is pretentious or unique and brave. Overall, not a pleasant experience, but one with impact and substance, and some images that keep on haunting me.

nasty and cold, but quite interesting indeed

A cold and surreal affair, the kind that pulls of showing rather expliciet sex scenes without being arousing in the slightest, with peculiar acting and dialogues that alienate even further. I found it quite intriguing.

Mean and original

Apart from a slowish middle section, it's a wicked, smart and playfull timetravel movie.

A little scifi gem

It's a bit campy and occasionally borderline B-movie-ish. But it never crosses that line, instead delivering many memorable and well done scifi moments, some great designs and humor that works.

Intriguing childrens' horror

The semi-relaxed atmosphere, mysterious but never sensationalist, together with telling the story mostly form the perspective of the children, makes this a a slow but unique and satisfying watch. I was bit puzzled what drove the evil one, though.

A very decent sci-fi action thriller.

If you manage to NOT see this as a reboot, it's a fine sci-fi action flick with some great designs.

Well rounded and chilling

It really knows how to play the 'something unexpected appeared on the footage' effect, resulting in plenty of chill inducing moments. It ties it together with a convincing and well acted documentary and even has a few plot-twist to keep it interesting.

A pleasant mystery

The mystery of not quite getting what is going on really adds to suspense and intrigue and this stylish scifi. Low profile in an effective way, but the many long scenes can be a bit much at times.

Bit weird and unsettling, but nevertheless interesting and sensual

A must see for those interested in original alien movies, Scarlett Johansson, or both. Partially filmed with standard digital cameras, providing a successfull hidden camera experience. Visual effects from the eighties and creepy sounds throughout the movie provide the cherry on top.

smooth

There is something very classy about this movie, with nice actors and a pleasant, self-confident pace that make it a silky smooth ride. I did think the 'Stay in school' mentor-ship of a black dude was rather cliched and obligate, but in the end in did suit the story.

Truly terryfing scenes in a somewhat vague storyline

This features more than an average amount of quite intense, scary scenes that really come through. In fact this is close to being one of the better horrors out there, but somehow the story was a bit vague and hard to even remember, deducting points.

Plenty of coolness in here

I will never get used to the sound of desperate Japanese women panicking. Otherwise, this movie offers neat graphics, a cool atmosphere, imaginative kick-ass weapons and great monsters - whose design is familiar like 'typical' ghouls, but brought to live with high details and uncanny lighting.

Mostly succesful

A risky movie concept, requiring a top-notch actor and scripts to make the switch from actual boredom to fascination. Despite the ill-advised decision to make the astronaut a rather cold lifeless character, and some moments of actual boredom, this movie also gets plenty of things right. Well done.

Looks and feels unique

I didn't want to keep dwelling in the extraordinary make up and looks of Kidman, but it is so powerful that it radiates onto everything in the movie, lifting it to an intense, hot and muggy experience.

A very trilling home invasion flick, but not for the fainthearted

It's a unpleasant, painful, violent and - especially towards the end - quite gory movie that is probably too much for the most of us. But I have to say, as a home invasion movie it was very tense en gripping, and the feeling of desolation and hopelessness was very well done.

Still too much Hollywood for it's own good

Big and bold monster rampage is the easy part, making it count is hard. Some surprisingly stylish scenes are overshadowed (I think it had two artdirectors) by the usual movie laziness en cliches - like people constantly briefing each other about things everyone's already doing. A fun ride though.

A fine anime

A fine anime with sweet, non-standard animations and drawings, an interesting story and a couple of very intense action scenes with wicked ninja's.

"fucked up horror" seems like a good way to describe it yes

The 70s vibe is spot-on, the interaction between sexy and horrific scenes works surprisingly well and there are some intense moments. It is especially adept in making the elderly terrifying. So overall this is quite good - an interesting result of skilled filmmakers creating a slasher.

Interesting look at an incredible machine

There is a slight overload of scientific superlatives on how important and revolutionary it all is. But with a device like that, and theories like that, and findings like that, I suppose they are right! Quite fascinating.

Beautiful contrasts

The beauty of the girl amidst the cold neon lights and people, which I guess symbolizes the harsh nature of the modelling world, works out great. It then builts up to an even greater contrast with death and gore, without ever becoming cheap or revolting. Wow.

Find the purpose of live by ending it. Twice.

The movie is mostly a philosophical essay about life and death, told through voice overs, long flashbacks and some events in the future. It can be a bit slow and loaded, but mostly it hits the mark and provides an interesting watch with some great acting and a good atmosphere.

Quite unique

I tried this because it was hyped as the costume movie that, because of the vile play and firework between the female rivals, was also suitable for men. And indeed, I did enjoy the acting, the beautiful decors and camerawork people making their way through the castle. It has quite a unique vibe.

Should have been even funnier

The whole idea is so outstandingly funny that I couldn't help feeling somewhat disappointed. But it IS funny.

A big little movie

A reminder that glimpses can be more effective than in your face CGI mayhem, and that simple stories told and acted with care can be just as engrossing as any. A rather nifty little movie.

Exciting fly on the wall

A nail-biting experience that had me hooked and managed to make the legal ramifications of firing a missile quite exciting indeed. I just thought the crying, insubordinate drone pilots were ridiculous.

A classic that is a little too slow for it's own good

A moody and stylish scifi movie that defined the standard for shaping futuristic dark cities and matched it with a great soundtrack. I like how it takes time for everything, including people simply going from A to B, but near the end the slow pacing isn't quite rewarded by the underwhelming climax.

Succesful absurdity

Successfully achieves an uncanny atmosphere without over relying on effects, instead setting an ominous mood with black and white tones. I also dig the usage of a superhappy place for something twisted to evolve. Quite exciting.

Not as good as the preceeding parts, but still fine

It is dark and slightly depressing, it is kind of slow at times and the music sounded simplistic and almost unfinished to me. So all in all less successful than the previous parts. But there's still heaps of impressive and sympathetic apes working together and fighting intense encounters.

Unpleasant but relevant curiosity

It's a glooming, filthy and let's not forget very slow film that's not for everyone. But I have to say it worked too. The way she endures it, all alone in her windowless apartment, without seeking help, adds to an deep sense of isolation and depression, and a deeper meaning to it.

A pleasant, very funny surprise

Expecting this to be remotely entertaining at best, I found myself laughing out loud numerous times, which made me realize what a rarity such movies have become. A very funny movie with Applegate and and Helms showing they totally get the vacation-movie heritage and humor.

Awesomeness, but did not leave me in awe

It's a beautiful grandiose piece of work. But somehow I was looking at it more than I was experiencing it. And why are these whining hobbits the chosen one? And why didn't Gandalf summon those giant birds earlier, to get them there immediately? WHYYY.

Mostly a simple idea done well

This move has a nice, confident focus on a single plot: two women facing a monster. The performances are really good and the movie is effective most of the time. After a while though, I was kind of done with their screaming and sobbing, and the initially charming simplicity began to work against it.

Well made and well acted

The surprisingly warm and talented cast, including Amy Schumer herself, make this movie flow wonderfully and naturally, providing plenty of smiles and a general good feeling along the way.

Moving but very comfortless

A very bleak and depressing affair, almost excessively so. You start to wonder if there ought to be some kind of payoff for enduring all of this, but I am not sure there was. But I have to say, I was moved by it.

Congratulations: the most vile and depressing movies I know

A deeply depressing and sickening film - Not just because of the the obscenities, the depravity, animal deaths, the intestines, the excrements and cruelty - but the music, camerawork and voiceover made me even more nauseous. You may give it 1 point, I opt higher due to the sheer impact of it all.

A clever and wonderful concept, executed a bit childishly

Quite an amazing story cleverly put together with love and eye for detail. It's just that the persons involved are all too pretty, gayly chatting all the time... it's sort of lacks the notion that you should take it seriously or that these people are real.

Refreshingly and pleasantly weird

Sometimes non-standard oddball movies that do something different, mysterious, bizarre and thought- provoking are just so refreshing and satisfying. Like this one.

A unique mystery

A mesmerizingly calm and mysterious film that is close to horror, but not in a sensationalist way. Sometimes it's annoying when you don't know what's going on in a movie, but sometimes, like in this one, it is a wonderful trip and puzzle to get lost in.

Nicely done crime/horror movie

A rather solid movie with good acting, great badass characters, and a gloomy en dark atmosphere reminiscent of Seven.

Didn't see that one coming

A very satisfying time travel movie that manages to stack twist upon twist and does so with class, fine performances and without becoming gimmicky.

I mostly agree with the ecstatic reception it got

The native American setting makes it fresh, performances and action are pretty neat, and they wisely kept it simple and pure. But I did think it it was a bit predictable, and the overall tension was good but not exhilarating as might have been. I was sitting upright, but not on the edge of my seat.

A small but sympathetic hero movie

A bit slowish, silly and I am not even sure it looked that great. But there's a kind of uncomplicated, honest and straight-up fun entertainment in here, making it more enjoyable than certain other hysteric and megalomanic hero movies.

Deep and interesting, but it's darlings start to annoy

A profound series with a unique atmosphere and just enough lifelines to help you through the complexity. Problems: It dwells badly in the same concepts and 'darlings', the characters communicate in an unacceptably vague way, and everyone seems to have just one overacted facial expression.

Shattering beauty in an exciting alien universe - badly damaged by an unlikely crew doing unlikely things in a scenario full of WTF-moments.

Slightly overated but still good

A dark movie that offers some acting fireworks and I loved how the insanity and hallucinations slowly creep in. However, I cannot back up the the high appraisal it received entirely; for that I would have needed it to go deeper, further and darker.

An excellent fix of starwars, mostly good, some bad

I liked it best for it's utter love and understanding of star wars memories, old and new, brought on screen beautifully. Unfortunately, it also retains the utterly useless storm troopers by the dozens, leading to 'authentic' but ultimately unexciting combat. I also found the story very linear.

A beautiful mystery

The things are in fact quite vague, and I am not even sure I understand what was happening. But somehow is doesn't really matter. It is a journey of believable, interesting people that grabs and enchants you, without knowing where it is going.

A truly impressive war story, fogged by Hollywood smudge

Considering the incredible heroism and war footage on offer, there was no need to add the rather cheesy and corny love interest and, more importantly, absolutely SMOTHER everything in patriotic, choir-blazing, slow-motion Hollywood kitsch.

Not for everyone, but definitely for some

You'll need some knowledge of contemporary gaming, the Youtube subculture, and mental preparation for a barrage of restless imagery and hysteric jokes. But if you manage all that, you'll find that it has it's heart at the right place, is enjoyable and sometimes a good laugh indeed.

Refinened horror that mixes several discomforts but remains subtle

A refined, slow and uncomfortable movie that blends the horror with the dread of disease, the feeling of being unable to leave and helplessness. I thought it was really good watching it, but did notice it fading from my memory pretty fast afterwards - usually caused by a lack of standout moments.

Quite unique and fun, not really scary though

While I would have liked these to be more gory and/or scary, I found the first 4 very amusing and fresh spooky tales, with some clever and inspired stories. The final two a bit less so.

Nicely done, but minimal

It's lovingly made and compelling throughout, but it is suffering somewhat form the minimal story. Sometimes this leads to a pleasant slowburn pace, but at other times it is struggling to fill up time, with events that seems irrelevant for the overall story.

A bad movie done right

The characters inhabiting this world can be quite cringy in terms of stereotyping and trying to be witty all the time. But this still is an enjoyable and pleasantly over-the-top shark movie as long as you can shut your brain off.. and don't mind that every scare effect is the same: suddenly shark!

A painful story that needs to be told

This harrowing story is hard to watch, is made well and made me read into the backstory for sure. It feels inappropriate to even criticize it, but somehow it looses a few points because it really felt and experienced like a movie adaptation, creating some distance/shielding from the true horror.

Nice guys in a gripping documentary

The action is not the usual Hollywood mayhem, but the notion that it is real makes even single bullets shot very intense indeed. Courageously filmed, it is a unique peak into what it must have been like. These Danish guys seem alright to me.

Fresh

A fresh horror suspense flick with fine performances. I was quite impressed with how they made a a blind man terrifying and how they managed to keep the story running based on a small premise.

Works as a trip

Upon first viewing, I was put off by the apathetic Brad and a bunch of dissonant shenanigans in the story and space tech. But if you manage to just drift along with this dreamy, peculiar and beautiful space adventure, it can be quiet absorbing.

Fine Danish mystery

While not spectacular, this series provides a interesting mystery and characters - all embedded in that lovely Danish vibe: slowish and gray, yet relaxed and natural.

Moody and dark

This horror is carried almost exclusively on atmosphere, darkness, a deep sense of desolation and fear within. It is done wonderfully, it looks very moody and is acted well. At around 3 quarters through I felt a slight yearning for some twist or acceleration, but perhaps it is best without it.

A strange disaster movie about communication

This movie has seemingly normal, recognizable people in a seemingly familiar disaster movie, but something is off and strange throughout. It's mostly the dialogues, that seem to make a statement about how we (don't) communicate and are disconnected from each other. Remarkable but satisfying.

Wonderful space entertainment with some non-lethal flaws

Sure there are problems; it doesn't really enter your heart, and the frantic action can be hard and tiring to follow. Make no mistake though, as this is a grand deluxe space opera spectacle with a story, design, scale, characters and fantasyworld to rival Starwars.

Full of good things

It was quite heavy on sub stories and plots, risking convolution and hysteria. But luckily it manages to stay on the good side of things, keeping everything on rails and delivering colorful, whack fun and expanding on the franchise's unique humor, graphics and (80s!) vibe.

Refreshingly nasty

With his bad mouth, self awareness, humor and ultra cool action scenes, Dead Pool is a breath of fresh air amidst his unbearably boring Marvel colleagues. Story wise, it could step up a bit though as that felt shallow and plain.

A very decent in between scifi with good ideas

Original science fiction mystery that gradually evolves into an action thriller. It is quite nice indeed, but could have hit harder by exploring this profound premise and what it might do to people mentally.

Nice small-town cosmic horror

A nicely done movie with some cosmic horror and mystery, a lovely 'something is off' vibe, good 'rural town' atmosphere and a lead actress who manages to gain sympathy despite playing quite a nasty person. A nice treat indeed.

Minimalistic but not

The cinematography is as sober and plain as the cult members live their lives. It's almost a collage of images and unspoken emotions instead of a traditional story, but you still can feel the revolution building up beneath the skin. Good.

A bold idea done pretty well

A bold and interesting idea, but will looking at the same confined woman for an entire movie be interesting enough? During the first half I wasn't sure, but then it comes up with enough twists and some impressive shots to make it work. Not by a huge margin, but certainly enough.

Impressively acted drama

A small, uncomplicated story that works because of slew of actors at the top of their game and an intimate, delicate atmosphere. It never becomes over-dramatic and it dares to be quite and just let the silence, expressions and stares speak for themselves.

Moody en interesting mystery

It can be a tad sluggish, and I sometimes became frustrated with the incomplete and vague way people talked. Mostly though, the story is intriguing, and the easy going pace combined the Icelandic setting created a lovely, mysterious glow.

Over the top science fiction action movie (in a good way)

A bit too much of everything, but somehow just right because of that!

Take some time to let it sink in, and start enjoying

Not familiar with this comic, I feared I'd never get into this unexplained stream of weirdness. But the humor, vivid space combat action and sympathetic characters grew on me and left me quite entertained indeed.

Okay these guys are tough

As these men are battered & bruised, smashed against rocks, cornered and shot, the increasing dread of death and hopelessness comes across very well. Intense movie that stuck for a while.

Shoot 'em up between navy seals and taliban

Main part of the movie consists of Americans and Taliban chasing, shooting, injuring and killing eachother. Apparently a navy seal can sustain more injury than Iron Man ("is there a bullet in my head?"). Overall an okay movie for those of us not easily scared by bloody scenes.

An original and pretty good horror

There can be something eerie about many stop motion films, so using it as the basis for a horror is an exciting move. It is well done with stylish and moody imaginary and a good doze of surrealism. Halfway through though, the curve flattens as it sort of goes to autopilot. Still, nice little find

Decent little war movie that does things differently.

Overall it doesn't feel very plausible, and some of the combat feels slightly tame and lacking suspense. But it's different, varied and builts up to a unexpectedly large finale and plot twist. An amusing watch for sure.

An African American living in New york is kidnapped and sold as slave

Based on a true story addressing the gruesome consequences of slavery in the southern states of mid 19th century America. Although I can appreciate this movie and the message it portrays, there are other movies on this topic that I find more memorable.

Lots to like, but too vague for it's own good

Another anime that I really wanted to like, with it's classy opening, cool animation and imaginative story. But it's also hard to follow, almost like it is struggling with it's own complexity as everyone keeps explaining stuff. And I HATE ALL ANIME GASPS DEEPLY.

Fine time traveling

For the most part this is quite a charming and sympathetic movie that has it's own time traveling story to tell, without over-complicating things but still challenging you to keep up. I am not so sure about the rather insecure and frequently sobbing main character though.

Far-fetched plots also have side effects

Good, but as the story becomes more and more unbelievable, your involvement in this movie wears off.

Good, misses some opportunities

A more than decent survival and motherhood story, but it could have been denser and nerve-wrecking in places. Also, there's a twist near the end that could have been huge, but it's almost like they didn't really follow up on it, and went with a rather swampy emotional ending instead.

Familiar, but done right

Although we certainly have seen similar things, I thought this was well above the norm. Apparently there is still merit in horror featuring walking around dark places with flashlights. The atmosphere is creepy and unnerving, and I liked the lead actress slowly loosing her cool.

An above average spirt summoner

Summoning the spirits and the inevitable consequences may be a familiar theme, but I thought this movie had enough ideas of it's own to keep it fresh and interesting. I wish it was scarier though, and that I liked the characters more.

Some conlicting styles perhaps, but good entertainment

The basic concept of this mysterious old man taking down despicable nazi's in cool ways works for me. But it was too unrealistic to be taken seriously, yet not campy enough for that to be irrelevant. Still, something different with it's own vibe.

A well made movie, somehow unable to excite

On the face of it, this was pretty close to a triple A movie. A touching and sincere storyline, impressive CGI and areal shots, and a professional and mature feel to it. Yet somehow, there was something lukewarm about it, unable to really move or excite me. Not quite sure what it was.

Pleasant and intimate modern fairytale

A pleasant modern day fairlytale with an intimate atmosphere and performances. Much more refined than big blockbusters, and the sickness is brought without sugarcoating. It's just that the twist at the end, although I can see the point of it, was somewhat abrupt and left me slightly unfulfilled.
