Remarkable

About 90% of the movie is romantic drama leading up to the infamous 10% of painful torture. If you didn't know about this finale, I suspect some might wonder where this movie is going and what it is about. But as it is, the combination makes for an intriguing and remarkable movie.

Good stuff if you accept the gist

This time, I was prepared and ready for layers of over-the-top plot twists that are not what you thought, yet happened perfectly according to someone's plan, which was also part of another plan. And once that is your mindset, you have yourself a highly amusing, high octane spy action thriller.

Good one

A pleasing mystery horror that builds well on the intimacy and isolation of the couple, and reels you in as the mystery increases but hardly resolves.

Varied, interesting and entertaining

A well-rounded and well made movie that has a little bit of everything, and remains fresh by taking multiple new directions. I liked it, but do not fully feel the 'masterpiece' status it has. People applaud it's 'social commentary' - but if they mean rich and poor - then well duh.

Wonderfull movie that had even more potential

Great idea, beautifully done in a movie with a big heart. I thought the pacing was not quite right and it could/should have been even more magical.

Nice, but not all the way

A very charming, sympathetic and occasionally very sexy movie. The atmosphere of these teenagers plowing through the night is neat. Unfortunately, it can't maintain the magic all the way through, and even deteriorates some of it with dissonant elements like the soccermatch and kung-fu kid.

Unpleasant weekend trip

Things really go south, and you really feel for the couple as it goes from spoiling to terrorizing and worse. Making the gang all kids makes it all very uncomfortable, as you want them to smash their heads against a rock but they sort of can't.

Not perfect, but loaded with plenty of scifi perks

There were quite a few elements that I found a bit of-putting - mainly that this world cataclysmic event only seemed to occupy a small group of befriended people - but this did not take away from the fact that it is a highly enjoyable specific epic, loaded with strange stuff and enticing mystery.

Fine heavy duty action

Movies that occur in a single place can feel somewhat cheap. But I quite enjoyed this moody, dark, heavy action flick with some beautiful slo-mo scenes and sounds.

A worthy succesor

I guess it would never have been able to top the original, but I commend them for getting close and successfully prolonging the same action, humor and on-man-army formula. It's all just a bit less snappy.

Pretty fly

Some characters can be a bit manga-crincy as expected (especially the women), but it has stuff to make up for it: exciting space battles and weaponry, a well developed atmosphere, and very imaginative, strange and impressive (dare I say scary?) gauna monsters indeed.

Survives its many flaws

I wish the superpowers were a little less extreme, the science a bit more refined, the pacing a but more delicate. It's also unfortunate that the superpowers are only used for fighting goons, not something more poetic. Despite all that, it still is a very entertaining, smart and quite a cool movie.

Mostly a satisfying mystery crime story

Gloomy and very Finscher indeed. I liked it, but I thought the girl was too alien and the guy too earthlike to make much sense of their relationship in the first place.

Quite creative

I am still not sure if I fully grasp the story, let alone summarize it properly, but this is a rather interesting horror with plenty of worthy moments. It uses some well known horror elements but uses them to built a creative and refreshing story with.

Unique, dark and bright

While the viral success and hype it generated may seem a bit much, I would agree that it is a fresh, well made series that make you eager for the next episode. The bright colors contrast nicely with the dark theme, you get to like the protagonists and loathe the bad ones.

A very decent if not somewhat inplausible mystery/horror

When I thought about this movie afterwards, I started feeling the story was rather far fetched in places, but this didn't bother when I watched it. Instead, I rather enjoyed the ominous mood, the tasteful reli-creepiness and the cold scenery.

Bursting with life

It's almost impossible not to fall for the groovy atmosphere, ultra saturated colors, fantastic designs, wonderful scenery and continuous wisecracks. It was clearly made with heaps of faith and love for this universe, and I salute them. But a deep, engrossing adventure it is not.

Not bad for a movie about lawyers and judges

Solid acting performance by the cast, but no big surprises in the plot. Overall, a pleasant movie.

Why minds should be set free

Go see it if you don't buy that description. I really appreciated this wildly imaginative story backed up with spectacular animation. It is a testimony for what may come from unrestricted, unbound filmmaking... even if the result may be difficult to connect with emotionally.

Another fine but slightly depressing episode

This franchise keeps delivering solidly made, unpretentious adventure in which over the top nonsense and action just feels as part of the deal. I did think this one had a too dark and depressing atmosphere, and after so much dino's footage lately I can only get modestly excited by them.

A well executed idea

A great idea that is played out interestingly and excitingly without overdoing it. Some horror, some thriller and smart tricks with time. I couldn't ask for more.

Loud noise but plenty to make up for it

The hard, restless cuts and loud music can be a bit much, but I did think they have a unique mood going on, there are enough memorable shock moments. And what really struck me was the natural and believable acting throughout, which made the entirely adolescent cast bearable for once.

The fun to be had!

No doubt we could make a long list of things that are dumb or preposterous about this movie. But I thought they nailed that lovely vibe of action-disaster movies of yesteryear, and I honestly can't think of a recent movie that made me enjoy myself and sit on the edge of my seat like this one!

Simple but highly enjoyable

I guess it's guilty of doing some dinosaur cliche's, and perhaps we won't ever be impressed by them again as we once did. But I liked seeing them in a different scifi context, and I also thought the movie was a simple but very solid and amusing ride. Adam manages to elevate it far above pulp.

Light hearted drama that is actually worth a watch

Sympathetic movie with a touching story based on true events (including the dubious role of the catholic church in child adoptions in Ireland), and very convincing acting by Judi Dench. Ideal movie for men who want to show their partner they actually have a sensitive side as well....

An intense and probably revealing inside look full of contrasts

I found it especially good at creating contrasts: how the atmosphere changes before, during and after a shoot, and how she continues to pursue her ambitions despite the demeaning and sometimes brutal treatment. The clean, observant, non-dramatic style makes it feel like a documentary.

Great change of tone

With it's minimal animation, stiff voiceovers and Japanese girlpop power vibe, it took me some effort to get into this. But this beautifully contrasts with the dark and vile direction it takes on later, and then, when it starts to mess with time and your head as well, the effort had been worth it!

As good as you could hope for

A fine sequel. I liked how the visualized the internet. It doesn't, however, manage to overcome the sequel curse and bring back the magical atmosphere, or the refined and diverse story line from the first part.

Tank porn. It exists.

A rather bold action flick showing loads of tanks with super slowmo shell penetrations and sweaty screaming Russians. I feared it was more of a videoclip than a movie, but the story catches up and makes it worthwhile and quite exciting indeed. Perfect for tank aficionados like me.

A sweet adventure with some new and some familiar stuff

A competent, colorful and quite exciting adventure. I liked how the appearance and behavior of the dragon wasn't 're-imagined' and stays close to the Chinese originals (even if they somewhat resemble Little Pony's®). The humor and inevitable morals in the story are a bit much, but ok.

Intriguing childrens' horror

The semi-relaxed atmosphere, mysterious but never sensationalist, together with telling the story mostly form the perspective of the children, makes this a a slow but unique and satisfying watch. I was bit puzzled what drove the evil one, though.

Not much new but still good underwater thrills

This was unexpectedly solid in fact. Not much wrong with the underwater and alien excitement at all. It is let down by the rather linear story with no real surprises, and looses an entire point for awful appearance of Stewart. God I wish she looked like she did in Camp X-ray in this.

Well rounded and chilling

It really knows how to play the 'something unexpected appeared on the footage' effect, resulting in plenty of chill inducing moments. It ties it together with a convincing and well acted documentary and even has a few plot-twist to keep it interesting.

Kitchy, unique and atmospheric

I almost could not get over the heinous, ridiculous way the crew looked (especially Mack!), but realized it matched with the oddly unique, kitschy interior of the spaceship, creating a unique vibe. I really liked this show, with an interesting story, a great finale and fantastic music.

Very fine horror that is just a bit too long

A good horror that impress with plenty of scares accentuated by great camerawork, and refrains from too much cheap jump scares. Like it's predecessor though, I thought it went on for too long so my 'get scared' supply ran out and I was just taking it in. Too bad.

Not for everyone, but a joy for some

Once again it will test your endurance for coping with long, poetic, endless metaphors and contemplations about technology. And once again it will reward you with a fabulous combination of drawn and CGI graphics and a fascinating atmosphere. A bit too low an action maybe, but worth it.

Staying loyal to the franchise has it's drawbacks

Despite exquisite action scenes and many memorable Starwars moments, something felt tired. How many dramatic Vader entrances must I care for? How many nameless (and still incompetent) stormtroopers killed? How many shields disabled just in time? How much dangling in high shafts?

Original, effective and hellish

While the actors may not be very likable, at least their character are unique and distinct, and we are given the time to get to know them. The finale is truly hellish, the atmosphere is ominous and there's some interesting stuff going on in the time line as well.

Very good war movie, even moreso if you like Texan cowboydreams.

I wasn't too keen on the Texas-cowboy-American-hunt-with-your-son-patriot-there's-always-vacant-pretty-girl-just-sitting-at-the-bar elements. Not overly successful as a war commentary either. As a war movie though, is filmed with class, sincerity and restraint and hits hard.

Evolves into something good

What starts of somewhat doubtfully as yet more mockumentary by cute rapping teenagers, gradually evolves into a rather dark, vile, nasty and scary movie indeed. It's slow pacing and lack of gore/fx only make it stronger.

"fucked up horror" seems like a good way to describe it yes

The 70s vibe is spot-on, the interaction between sexy and horrific scenes works surprisingly well and there are some intense moments. It is especially adept in making the elderly terrifying. So overall this is quite good - an interesting result of skilled filmmakers creating a slasher.

nasty and cold, but quite interesting indeed

A cold and surreal affair, the kind that pulls of showing rather expliciet sex scenes without being arousing in the slightest, with peculiar acting and dialogues that alienate even further. I found it quite intriguing.

Mean and original

Apart from a slowish middle section, it's a wicked, smart and playfull timetravel movie.

An great story, executed slightly dull

Direction and performances are a bit uninspired, contrasting with a really nifty and clever story that keeps your attention all the way. Even my wife stayed awake for this one.

A little scifi gem

It's a bit campy and occasionally borderline B-movie-ish. But it never crosses that line, instead delivering many memorable and well done scifi moments, some great designs and humor that works.

A pleasant mystery

The mystery of not quite getting what is going on really adds to suspense and intrigue and this stylish scifi. Low profile in an effective way, but the many long scenes can be a bit much at times.

Bit weird and unsettling, but nevertheless interesting and sensual

A must see for those interested in original alien movies, Scarlett Johansson, or both. Partially filmed with standard digital cameras, providing a successfull hidden camera experience. Visual effects from the eighties and creepy sounds throughout the movie provide the cherry on top.

Fun and heartwarming

Another original, joyful, colorful and funny animation that is hard to fault. Pet owners will get some extra laughs out of the recognizable pet quirks shown. These animation movies are constantly of such a high quality that they will have to come up with something new to stand out.

Depressing, in a good way

Gloomy and dark, with a well constructed sense of desolation. You can almost smell the humidity and feel the suffocating scenery. Acting is intense if not a bit over, but somehow it seems right for this movie.

Ouch

Loaded with an insane amount of painful fighting, with faces cracked and banged against walls, bones snapped, and knives, hammers and bats smashing and hacking away. It gets you nauseous and uncomfortable. But my my, it is also expertly choreographed and shot.

Truly terryfing scenes in a somewhat vague storyline

This features more than an average amount of quite intense, scary scenes that really come through. In fact this is close to being one of the better horrors out there, but somehow the story was a bit vague and hard to even remember, deducting points.

Gorgeous but Disney

For younsters, this is a splendid and exciting space adventure with a great spirit. Grumpy old men like me need to deal additionally with the miles thick morals, and the over-smart main character and her indifference towards the amazing things she encounters.

Still too much Hollywood for it's own good

Big and bold monster rampage is the easy part, making it count is hard. Some surprisingly stylish scenes are overshadowed (I think it had two artdirectors) by the usual movie laziness en cliches - like people constantly briefing each other about things everyone's already doing. A fun ride though.

A very trilling home invasion flick, but not for the fainthearted

It's a unpleasant, painful, violent and - especially towards the end - quite gory movie that is probably too much for the most of us. But I have to say, as a home invasion movie it was very tense en gripping, and the feeling of desolation and hopelessness was very well done.

Succesful absurdity

Successfully achieves an uncanny atmosphere without over relying on effects, instead setting an ominous mood with black and white tones. I also dig the usage of a superhappy place for something twisted to evolve. Quite exciting.

I mostly agree with the ecstatic reception it got

The native American setting makes it fresh, performances and action are pretty neat, and they wisely kept it simple and pure. But I did think it it was a bit predictable, and the overall tension was good but not exhilarating as might have been. I was sitting upright, but not on the edge of my seat.

Slightly overated but still good

A dark movie that offers some acting fireworks and I loved how the insanity and hallucinations slowly creep in. However, I cannot back up the the high appraisal it received entirely; for that I would have needed it to go deeper, further and darker.

Should have been even funnier

The whole idea is so outstandingly funny that I couldn't help feeling somewhat disappointed. But it IS funny.

Another solid episode

As always, these movies guarantee plenty of really solid slick and tense action. This one starts to lean towards a James Bond vibe, skimping on the outrageous impossible stunts. It's still fab, as long as you can take in the endless layers of "HAHA it was all part of some amazing plan!"

Congratulations: the most vile and depressing movies I know

A deeply depressing and sickening film - Not just because of the the obscenities, the depravity, animal deaths, the intestines, the excrements and cruelty - but the music, camerawork and voiceover made me even more nauseous. You may give it 1 point, I opt higher due to the sheer impact of it all.

A painful story that needs to be told

This harrowing story is hard to watch, is made well and made me read into the backstory for sure. It feels inappropriate to even criticize it, but somehow it looses a few points because it really felt and experienced like a movie adaptation, creating some distance/shielding from the true horror.

A unique mystery

A mesmerizingly calm and mysterious film that is close to horror, but not in a sensationalist way. Sometimes it's annoying when you don't know what's going on in a movie, but sometimes, like in this one, it is a wonderful trip and puzzle to get lost in.

Awesomeness, but did not leave me in awe

It's a beautiful grandiose piece of work. But somehow I was looking at it more than I was experiencing it. And why are these whining hobbits the chosen one? And why didn't Gandalf summon those giant birds earlier, to get them there immediately? WHYYY.

Worthy addition, great adventure

The awe and excitement of seeing realistic lifesize dino's on the screen may never be what is once was, but this movies still manages to capture the highly entertaining and plain fun adventure vibe of the franchise. Good 3D too.

Unpleasant but relevant curiosity

It's a glooming, filthy and let's not forget very slow film that's not for everyone. But I have to say it worked too. The way she endures it, all alone in her windowless apartment, without seeking help, adds to an deep sense of isolation and depression, and a deeper meaning to it.

Bad ass

Godzilla is only showed sparingly, instead building up mystery and an ominous atmosphere surrounding his presence. It has gorgeous drawings of awesomely designed space warfare in it. So all in all, despite the usual hysteric acting, I thought this was rather successful and was quite impressed.

Not for everyone, but definitely for some

You'll need some knowledge of contemporary gaming, the Youtube subculture, and mental preparation for a barrage of restless imagery and hysteric jokes. But if you manage all that, you'll find that it has it's heart at the right place, is enjoyable and sometimes a good laugh indeed.

Refinened horror that mixes several discomforts but remains subtle

A refined, slow and uncomfortable movie that blends the horror with the dread of disease, the feeling of being unable to leave and helplessness. I thought it was really good watching it, but did notice it fading from my memory pretty fast afterwards - usually caused by a lack of standout moments.

A tough but rewarding watch

A painful and depressing movie for sure, but I like how the way various layers of the story unveil. And just when I started wondering if there would be any redemption to all the suffering, comes a reveal that magically makes the whole thing become coherent, satisfying and even... beautiful?

Blood, horror, and torture: at least I warned you

Lots of blood, torture and some horror elements in a movie that you will probably still remember years from now, but whish you wouldn't.

Moody and dark

This horror is carried almost exclusively on atmosphere, darkness, a deep sense of desolation and fear within. It is done wonderfully, it looks very moody and is acted well. At around 3 quarters through I felt a slight yearning for some twist or acceleration, but perhaps it is best without it.

Beautiful failure

Shattering beauty in an exciting alien universe - badly damaged by an unlikely crew doing unlikely things in a scenario full of WTF-moments.

Party sucked, movie did not

One of those movies that plays out in a single place with a single group of people, and a good one at that. The main goal of slowly building up a feeling of discomfort and anxiety to resolve what's going on is successfully achieved by the fine actors, story and no frills.

An interesting horror that is adequately scary

An original, gripping and quite tense horror movie that had me talking and pondering long after it was finished... which is a good thing that I find increasingly rare. I just thought that it felt short on being truly scary or under the skin, the way I thought it would be.

Chest pounding action with suprisingly restrained Bayism

The beginning was restless for the wrong reasons, everyone was chatting and doing stuff I could not follow. There's also a fair dose of Bay kitsch en patriotism, albeit less than I expected. But it's still an intense adrenaline rush - so much so that I had trouble falling asleep afterwards.

Quite unique and fun, not really scary though

While I would have liked these to be more gory and/or scary, I found the first 4 very amusing and fresh spooky tales, with some clever and inspired stories. The final two a bit less so.

Fine Danish mystery

While not spectacular, this series provides a interesting mystery and characters - all embedded in that lovely Danish vibe: slowish and gray, yet relaxed and natural.

smooth

There is something very classy about this movie, with nice actors and a pleasant, self-confident pace that make it a silky smooth ride. I did think the 'Stay in school' mentor-ship of a black dude was rather cliched and obligate, but in the end in did suit the story.

It will pull you in, too

I didn't want to go see this movie, but the terrifying story and suspense did keep me glued to the screen. The confusing ending with mixed memories from a past wasn't really necessary.

Minimalistic but not

The cinematography is as sober and plain as the cult members live their lives. It's almost a collage of images and unspoken emotions instead of a traditional story, but you still can feel the revolution building up beneath the skin. Good.

A beautiful mystery

The things are in fact quite vague, and I am not even sure I understand what was happening. But somehow is doesn't really matter. It is a journey of believable, interesting people that grabs and enchants you, without knowing where it is going.

Impressively acted drama

A small, uncomplicated story that works because of slew of actors at the top of their game and an intimate, delicate atmosphere. It never becomes over-dramatic and it dares to be quite and just let the silence, expressions and stares speak for themselves.

Uneasy

While not as deeply disturbing as the of hype would make you believe, it was uneasy for sure. I liked it; photography was beautiful, and the slow tension and mystery keeps you hooked. But at the same time, I was slightly disappointed for not requiring therapy afterwards.

A succesfull approach for a subject like this

I needed some time to make up my mind. Never quite sure whether it is erotic or just plain nasty, whether it is pretentious or unique and brave. Overall, not a pleasant experience, but one with impact and substance, and some images that keep on haunting me.

A strange disaster movie about communication

This movie has seemingly normal, recognizable people in a seemingly familiar disaster movie, but something is off and strange throughout. It's mostly the dialogues, that seem to make a statement about how we (don't) communicate and are disconnected from each other. Remarkable but satisfying.

A mature and pretty Anime, with some problems

While there are some anime annoyances, like bizarre behavior of all females, this had quite a mature, restrained atmosphere in which the Gundam action was secondary. I couldn't quite follow it, but was impressed by some gorgeous visuals (like nature and downtown cities) as well as the music.

Plenty of coolness in here

I will never get used to the sound of desperate Japanese women panicking. Otherwise, this movie offers neat graphics, a cool atmosphere, imaginative kick-ass weapons and great monsters - whose design is familiar like 'typical' ghouls, but brought to live with high details and uncanny lighting.

A classic that is a little too slow for it's own good

A moody and stylish scifi movie that defined the standard for shaping futuristic dark cities and matched it with a great soundtrack. I like how it takes time for everything, including people simply going from A to B, but near the end the slow pacing isn't quite rewarded by the underwhelming climax.

For a sequel, this seems about right!

While it won't yield the awe of the first one, simply because we are used to it, I'd say it quite successfully finds a balance between delivering what made the first one so good, and introducing a new story, plenty of memorable moments and some new fun characters.

Moody en interesting mystery

It can be a tad sluggish, and I sometimes became frustrated with the incomplete and vague way people talked. Mostly though, the story is intriguing, and the easy going pace combined the Icelandic setting created a lovely, mysterious glow.

Beautiful contrasts

The beauty of the girl amidst the cold neon lights and people, which I guess symbolizes the harsh nature of the modelling world, works out great. It then builts up to an even greater contrast with death and gore, without ever becoming cheap or revolting. Wow.

Find the purpose of live by ending it. Twice.

The movie is mostly a philosophical essay about life and death, told through voice overs, long flashbacks and some events in the future. It can be a bit slow and loaded, but mostly it hits the mark and provides an interesting watch with some great acting and a good atmosphere.

Good satire with an undertone

It's basically an amusing political commentary that is is exaggerated and sensational on the one hand, but uncomfortably recognizable and realistic on the other.

Nice small-town cosmic horror

A nicely done movie with some cosmic horror and mystery, a lovely 'something is off' vibe, good 'rural town' atmosphere and a lead actress who manages to gain sympathy despite playing quite a nasty person. A nice treat indeed.

A big little movie

A reminder that glimpses can be more effective than in your face CGI mayhem, and that simple stories told and acted with care can be just as engrossing as any. A rather nifty little movie.

A strange but tasty slowburner

A well-acted and mysterious flick that makes you sense something is wrong way before it is. It is slow and without a manual, but near the end you wind up so clueless that it leaves a slightly unrewarding feeling though.

Dark Bond

A solid, slick and quite dark episode. Something remains, however, that keeps Bond films from rising above being good.

A reboot done well, good stuff for the fans

Clearly made with much love and respect for the original, with no Americanism in sight. Effects strike a balance between the original feel of the movies and modern techniques, without drowning in CGI coldness. The bureaucratic struggle to get anything done in time was a nice framework.

Tremendous fun and adventure. A success.

Me and my wife agreed that the balance between action/chase scenes and supernatural historical mystery could perhaps be opposite of what it is, but this is entertaining and fun, pretty much the way it should be. Whether it truly has lasting standout moments, I am not sure.

Not as good as the preceeding parts, but still fine

It is dark and slightly depressing, it is kind of slow at times and the music sounded simplistic and almost unfinished to me. So all in all less successful than the previous parts. But there's still heaps of impressive and sympathetic apes working together and fighting intense encounters.

A risky movie concept, requiring a top-notch actor and scripts to make the switch from actual boredom to fascination. Despite the ill-advised decision to make the astronaut a rather cold lifeless character, and some moments of actual boredom, this movie also gets plenty of things right. Well done.
