Well made, just not much in here for me personally

This was received well and praised highly, and I can see the well made and well told story in it. Personally, I was hoping for it to be a bit more vile, more shock, more magic and a lot less about fashion. It has a bit of a happy musical vibe that is not my cup of tea.

Over dramatized

The landing appears faithfully recreated and was thrilling to see, but the events surrounding it felt over dramatized. Also, the research committee seemed strangely angry and eager to discredit the pilot's doings, and almost started crying when they couldn't. What??

Like a an amusementpark ride

A very animated, lively fun movie that is cramped with jokes. So much so I thought it was exhaustive and it felt as though the bombardment of jokes was camouflaging the absence of a strong story or characters to bind with. Fun - but instantly forgettable.

Entertaining but ultimaltey unsatisfying mystery

Sure enough, the story made curious and entertained. But I was not blown away. I guess some of the actor are a bit meh (not Bautista though!), the super conveniently timed TV broadcast were lame, and I guess I missed a twist of some kind. Part of me thinks the twist was that there was none.

Could have used some more focus and excitement

I like it when things get sciency, and it goes well with natural presentation and some slow burning. But in this case, it can be a little too dull, and the story lacked a focus. It felt like it invented itself as it went on.

Disappointing second half

Up until they are shrunk, this is set up really nicely, putting in effort to make this idea work and making me eager to find out what's next. But then the story takes a u-turn with a slightly whiny, society critical theme, a horribly overacting Vietnamese, all making the smallness sort of pointless.

A quick fix of dead space terror but not much else

Fairly competent as a gung-ho heavy duty space zombie action animation, wisely not holding back in blood and guts, but ultimately lacking in depth, truly memorable moments or interesting characters.

Unique but a bit minimal

The combination of puppets a realistic dialogue makes for a unique vibe, and they sure have cooked up an interesting atmosphere. Unfortunately, sometimes I wondered how long I needed listen to the endless chit chat, and it seem they touched some deeper themes but didn't follow through on them

Story is good, other aspects lacking

The horror elements play a supportive role to what is essentially a crime/mystery story, which I found a nice change. There is also an satisfying twist that I did not see coming. Unfortunately, the acting and lines felt superficial, and the lead actress' single-expression face isn't helping.

Too Hollywood

A technically sound, mostly good looking disaster flick, served with the typical cardboard characters, an omnipotent superhero, drenched in a sauce of Hollywood cliches. It ends with them staring across the sunset with an American flag waving nearby. yay!

ok-ish, next time believe in yourself

It's not a bad war movie. It is, however, a little too preoccupied with setting up mandatory warmovie cliches and visuals, and showing how great and fun the military is. The Taliban apparently also have serious aiming issues.

Denzel we'd forgive you!

Stellar acting and crash scene. More than enough to keep you hooked to what is otherwise 'just' an alcohol drama.

Still feeling slightly nauseous....

Although it has been quite some time since I actually watched this movie, I still get an awkward feeling remembering the gross scenes. Which is, on the other hand, rather impressive since I do not associate many movies with such enduring and intense (negative) emotions....

A horrendous but lasting experience

Effortlessly falls into the category: why the hell did they make this... and why the hell am I watching this? Painful, vulgar and almost unbearable to watch. But I remember it better than the average multimilliondollar super FX movie that I have seen lately.

Moody but a bit too emtpy

With it's moody, grainy colors and images, and continuous dread of the unexplained, this had the potential for being quite an intense, under-your-skin thriller/horror. But unfortunately, the slowish plot and an overall empty feeling ment some of the scares were lost.

Decent little war movie that does things differently.

Overall it doesn't feel very plausible, and some of the combat feels slightly tame and lacking suspense. But it's different, varied and builts up to a unexpectedly large finale and plot twist. An amusing watch for sure.

Good yet linear and flat

Well made, acted and tightly shot, it is let by a very slow middle section, a failure to evoke deeper emotions and a rather uninspired depiction of the plagues, as if they are checking them out on a list; Yeh ok so that's the frogs, what's next? How many more?

Great prehistoric graphics and fun

Not overly successful in setting up characters you start to love, but beautifully rendered, quite exciting and good for a few laughs. I deduction half a point because it failed to make a lasting impression on my kids.

Half great, half ok

Starts of terrifying indeed. But then the inevitable ghost expert team moves in and sort of break the tension with misguided humor, along with the cliched medium and a tacky explanation for it all, and it sort of drifts into a slightly messy Poltergeist clone.

Mostly a decent home invasion movie

I liked the idea of a single, cute girl in a dress facing such dreadful odds, and it certainly has some strong scenes and moments. After a while though, I thought it became a bit directionless, and the surreal dreamy ending felt slapped on without really knowing what it was supposed to mean.

Nice machine

Timid but witty comedy.

Very decent scifi with a nice twist

All in all this was quite classy and stylistic most of the time, and it has a satisfactory twist as well. It does, however, dwell in certain scenes, and features some horrible cliches like a little girl risking everyone's lives to get her teddybear. Ugh.

Good heavy duty action with some issues

A commendable action flick with some very well shot, high-octane, hard-hitting brawling going on. After a while though, the man's ability to endure pain and injury gets a bit much, and the annoying acting style of the kid makes it hard to buy into their supposedly developing bond.

Good, misses some opportunities

A more than decent survival and motherhood story, but it could have been denser and nerve-wrecking in places. Also, there's a twist near the end that could have been huge, but it's almost like they didn't really follow up on it, and went with a rather swampy emotional ending instead.

Unbalanced

These LEGO movies will deliver the frantic action and fun, but I found it an unbalanced with a restless first half and then too much over-emotional scenes in the second one. But who am I? My son rated it 9.5.

Strong but very religious (duh!)

Strong and well made epic. Once they are on the boat, the endless contemplations about God's intentions and whether killing baby's is ok, is quite a lot to take in.

Quite a unique survival movie

Indoor survival, what an idea! It's all executed perfectly fine, and Dafoe manages to not overdo the gradually increasing frustration and insanity. Nothing mind-blowing here, but it's a worthwhile and refreshingly different movie for sure.

Watch out for splinters

At times a majestic and grandiose movie that definitely has it's moments, but also has some distracting dissonants like the weird fast paced conversations and inconsistent character of Arthur himself. Sometimes he was sincere, sometimes a goofball. It failed to latch on, already I am forgetting it.

The good bits are mostly a side dish

With almost every scene a piece of art, this is quiet a looker. The ghost scenes were great too. But the story holding it together is mostly a costume drama of love, crime and passion, which I found quite slow and pale by comparison. I really liked Jessica Chastain's performance, though

A warm and unique spacemovie about relationships

This is probably the exact philosophical, dreamy, oddball, puzzling and emotional relationship movie it needs to be and wants to be. My slight desire for a bit more juice is probably misplaced.

A classic, but has lost some impact over the years

It reached new levels of splatter-gore when it came out, and it still is quite a bloodbath today. The humorous tone helps to make the somewhat campy effects acceptable, but prevents it from becoming really scary or gross.

Unique, uncomfortably funny

An oddball movie with a strange but ultimately successful combination of comedy, violence and utterly boring vacation trips.

Oscar material and it knows it

A slew of triple A actors are seemingly competing for who has the most acting prowess, almost up to the point of overacting. The story is one of those 'little known story that needs to be told' affairs. Undoubtedly a good movie - but there is something very self conscious and Oscar hungry about it.

Pleasant and intimate modern fairytale

A pleasant modern day fairlytale with an intimate atmosphere and performances. Much more refined than big blockbusters, and the sickness is brought without sugarcoating. It's just that the twist at the end, although I can see the point of it, was somewhat abrupt and left me slightly unfulfilled.

Guilty pleasure

I liked it. Brutal, dumb, heavy duty action with some laughs thrown in.

Intriguing oddball

A really odd manga that is wrong for many reasons, and had me wondering why I was watching it several times. But the strange turned into intrigue, and kept me curious enough to watch all of it - which was rewarded by a tasty finale.

Another great alien movie that is also a huge disappointment

It still manages to shock and awe with intense alien encounters en space tech porn. But the more it wants to elaborate on the story and origins of the creature, the more it destroys. I wish I had never seen a live engineer - the single dead one was 100x more intriguing.

A somewhat mellow but fine chapter in this series

It really is an in-between movie without a convincing climax, and with less tension and mystery than its predecessor. But is also retrains enough of the unique style and excitement to make it worthwhile.

An original but sterile scifi drama

These series score with originality, a gloomy atmosphere and a couple of interesting storylines. However, the scenery, characters and atmosphere are so ice-cold and sterile that it is hard to empathize any with it - nor did I find everything very logical.

Uneasy in a good way

Has an effective, uneasy atmosphere, and the agonizing sensation of people trying to take care of a strange human in a room in the house, without really revealing what's in there. Could have had more impact with some more style and direction though, and booh for the misleading artwork.

A pretty good and pretty original horror

This movie manages to overcome my allergy of horror movies with those witty, young, beautiful perfect people, and delivers a pretty solid and entertaining watch, with some gore, mystery and reasonably fresh ideas. I loved the mimicry concept in here.

Decent scifi survival adventure

I thought it was an original and good looking adventure that kept me interested all the way.

Original and clever, but drops some balls

Down to the very title, the story and is pretty clever and there's a nice vibe which sets it apart from the norm. The horror is a bit lightweight though, and some of plot twists are brought simply by the characters explaining them to each other standing in circles.

Over aware of it's uniqueness

A courageous and unique movie that dares to be different and strange. Beautiful and meaningful on the one hand, but hardly subtle as the symbolism is sort of rammed damned your throat and feels slightly too pleased with itself.

A pleasant scif mystery

An amusing scifi thriller with a pleasant mellow atmosphere and enough question marks too keep you attached. Through it's fanatic attempts to deliver unexpected twist, it did become rather far fetched and illogical at times.

slow but effective

It is pushing the limits of slow burning, and perhaps lacks some focus in the story. But I remained on board the entire time, because I certainly was curious, it is intriguingly uncanny and I really liked the acting of the lead.

More interesting than scary

A combination of natural acting and convincing effects create some effective WTF moments. Well done, but it wasn't really scary - mostly because they seem sort of ok with the transformation.

Nice, but could have used a smarter story

Funny and witty spoof of contemporary politics, that's probably not far from the truth either. Slightly let down by a simplistic and predictable story.

Majestic saga lost in space

It had everything you could possibly wish for: spaceships, droids, lightsabers, jedi's, aliens and saga. It has a phenomenal pod race. But because of multiple factors, it is a somewhat dull experience.

Novel en successful idea approach to a horror flick

Probably a rehash of part 1, but since I have not yet seen that, I will honor this one for the brave, effective and chilling way of telling a horror story. The actual events and pacing are a bit under powered for it to become truly terrifying, though.

Intense and different, but not necessarily likable

I can appreciate the grime atmosphere and action instead of the ridiculous and hollow bubbly colors of most superhero movies. But is does mean that there is hardly anyone to like in this movie, nor is Charles as a needy and deteriorating man any fun to watch.

The kids deliver

Not sure it needed those shaky camera shots, on top of an already restless story that is literally allover the place. Mostly though, this is a highly sympathetic, nicely done scifi adventure which radiates the same positive energy as E.T. and Super 8.

Succesful slasher

While I suspect fans of the original have plenty to complain about, in itself I found this to be a fairly solid slasher movie. It has some good gore, and the tension in some scenes is well done and certainly above average.

Ups and downs. Mostly up though.

I liked the overall concept, the dark yet sensual atmosphere, and some cool action scenes. But I was struggling with the ice cold characters, a lot of talking, the unnecessarily complicated story and the ridiculous Agatha Christie climax with the big reveal with everyone standing in a room.

Plenty to complain about, but enough going for it

Maybe it didn't quite nail the claustrophobic atmosphere the way it could have, it aches towards a B-movie and most characters are unlikable and simplistic. But I gotta say: the overall concept is creepy and done nicely, and the mold/spore enemy original and impressive. Nice music, too

If you needed more of it, then this delivers

I for one missed these guys, and this movie simply delivers a generous portion of everything you love and hate about them, wrapped in a story that's reasonably fresh without ever drifting away from the essence.

Ultrapainful and hard to watch, with no payoff or clue to any of it

I was never drawn to torture movies, and by God I hope this is the most painful one in existence. I am giving this 7 points for it is not necessarily badly made, it managed to rattle me inside, made me look away and almost made me give up entirely. But that does not mean I recommend viewing it.

Warm and cozy

It's hard to fault this family-friendly, cozy, good looking and amusing comedy, as they balanced of of these things just about right for the target audience. Personally, I'd like some more edge, but this is probably the wrong movie to ask.

Slow, but something is growing

The movie has a very serene atmosphere in which the slow daily life in the woods is portrayed very well, so much so that in fact halfway I almost started to long for some action. But there's a constant under the skin buzz that keeps it mysterious and kept me watching, with memorable performances.

Decent, but outclassed by a slightly similar movie

The developing relationship between the man and his guide reminded my of the movie 'The Covenant', but I was less moved or convinced by this one. Likewise, the action and thrills are sufficient for an exciting watch, but also less slick and less nail-biting than said movie.

Interesting

At first I was put off by the cliched revolt of lowerclass people in dirty clothes and low lighting conditions. But as they fight their way to the higher class front of the train, color comes in literally and figuratively, bringing to live this interesting metaphor of real live society.

Good warmovie but short on real involvement

Enough thrills of naval combat to satisfy war movie aficionados like myself, but it's not perfect. The gray and dark tones seem excessive, and the story is a very basic mission-begins-mission-ends affair, causing a lack of involvement. The two flashbacks of a woman seem a futile attempt to fix this

A mood different than others, but lacks involvement

There's a plain, non-sensationalist vibe in the atmosphere and acting, which I liked and which sets the movie apart. The builtup and climax are also shocking enough. But making the main character is such a nasty, hollow, emotionless man works against the movie and the impact it could have had.

Over the top in a nice way

I don't buy many aspects of the story, but I enjoyed it anyway!

Good old fashioned suspense

An reasonably intense thriller with a constantly high adrenaline level, and a pleasant 'old fashioned' simplicity of execution. Near the end they go a little overboard with the whodunnit game, and the far fetched motives and plans of the terrorist are yeh-right.

So close to being great

This would have been a bomb if it had a more original, imaginative story. Now it's just a good, quite scary and beautiful looking movie.

Delightful

A delightful movie with great music tracks and characters that will steal your heart. I did feel that the story could have used some more details, and they could have had some more fun with using odd animal species rather than the obvious choices seen here (monkeys, pigs, elephant).

Simple but effective

It is told in a somewhat plain and unimaginative way, and for the most part feels like a collage of mini story's leading to a jump-scare. But the pieces do come together, and the movie did work. It has a uncanny atmosphere without being hysteric about it, and the scares came through alright.

Fine espionage

A decent, classic espionage action flick. It is a bit low on standout moments though, and the cockiness and skills of the main character can be too much at times.

A fair variation on superhero movies

The story is told more interestingly and seriously as the title and subject would have you think, and I quite enjoyed this small but tasteful superhero variation.

Tastes like chicken

Even though the premise is disturbing, it never crosses the line of becoming a dumb gorefest that solely relies on the shockeffect, which make this horror rather effective and interesting.

A trip for some of us

Perhaps it is not fair to rate this without having had subtitles, but I doubt it would have made more sense with them. Being uncomfortable, strange and vile, it's hard to rate movies like this. But in the end,I think I appreciate the vision, the boldness and the tripyness about it.

A heavy, deeply uncomfortable, depressing affair.

If you manage to finally make it through the rape scenes, the next endurance test is full frontal torture, slightly more bearable because of the payback. I thought the complicated torture setups deployed seemed overly elaborate, prone to errors. But how can we rate movies like this? A 7 perhaps?

Better than other superhero movies but still not very exciting

I liked this better than most superhero movies. It looks crisp, some of the fighting is nicely choreographed and shot, characters are sort of likeable and it isn't as hysteric or over the top as the others. But like most superhero movies, it struggles to reach deeper or really leave an impression.

Familiar, but done right

Although we certainly have seen similar things, I thought this was well above the norm. Apparently there is still merit in horror featuring walking around dark places with flashlights. The atmosphere is creepy and unnerving, and I liked the lead actress slowly loosing her cool.

Nice gimmick in an ok horror

I love the thing they do with dark and light, but it's not enough to compensate for the over familiar story, characters and performances - which prevent it from becoming truly scary. A fine horror though.

Refreshingly mad

While it may have some trouble keeping the simple setup engaging the whole time, I did find that this is a wonderfully crazy and refreshing flick. It has a nice dash of horror and scifi elements, but is mostly suitable for those seeking something absurd and trippy.

Typical Woody Allen movie?

I heard rumours that some Woody Allen movies are actually not that bad. This certainly is a movie aimed at character building and slow story telling, but nevertheless kept me interested till the last scene. Eventually, I even felt sorry for the main character, played by Cate Blanchett.

Something borrowed, something new

Although it uses some familiar ideas and scares, it also manages to have a story and atmosphere of it's own. Nothing spectaculair perhaps, but certainly a well rounded package and decent horror at that.

Too super

A good-looking fun ride which radiates positive energy. But gees, with so many superpowers combined, a truly exciting confrontation with evil is out of the equation. It's also too plain silly to be really exciting.

Kills it's darlings

Much to my regret, this movie kills most it's wonderful, imaginative and tasteful scenes, by endlessly dwelling in them. The unprofessional and unlikely science guy and his motivations are also a dissonant I wished they had left out. Too bad, as this had potential for becoming a mesmerizing gem.

Decent, but left a slighly unfinished feeling

Without overreaching within a limited budget, this manages to setup quiet a modest but enticing story and mood to make you curious. It can be a bit sluggish though and, while I find the open ended nature fitting, it did feel like it was a a bit insecure about it's own plot and meaning.

Strong beginning, medium remainders

I liked the beginning the best, as it is quite creepy and unnerving. After that, it looses this and switches to mystery/drama that I found less compelling but quite interesting nonetheless. I read about all sorts of double meanings you could attribute to this movie, but for me it is what it is.

Fine time traveling

For the most part this is quite a charming and sympathetic movie that has it's own time traveling story to tell, without over-complicating things but still challenging you to keep up. I am not so sure about the rather insecure and frequently sobbing main character though.

Well made but not engaging enough

It has a nice look and feel to it, and it was clearly made with much love and dedication. But these grumpy and dirty men harpooning whales were hardly sympathetic, so their misfortune was hardly engaging. The thick arty layers of unnatural colors take away a sense or realism too.

A unique but tasty cocktail

A remarkable mix of (hard-hitting) home invasion, fairytale folklore horror and perhaps even contemplations about manhood. Even the tone varies from scene to scene. But all in all, it sort of worked. Not a masterpiece, but highly amusing and quite intense at times.

The end of the world should have been nicer

Good to see people preparing for the end of the world in a reasonably calm and peaceful fashion for once. Starts of great, but then sort of loses it's pace and is neither witty or dramatic enough to really keep interest. I couldn't really attach to either of the main characters or their supposed relationship.

Funny and unique

A sassy movie with a nice sense of humor a great atmosphere. Could have used some killer jokes though.

Good, but may have lost the effect it once had

I'd be happy to acknowledge the impact that this slowly unfolding and psychological horror must have had back in the days, and I quite enjoyed it as well. But in the now, I found the bigger part of it very chatty and the climax barely making up for it.

Also a ferocious battle between great CGI and a great movie

Even a spectacle of this caliber, with such magnificent visuals, still would need a better story and characters to leave a lasting impression and score higher. But the dumb 'n fun factor sort of works here.

Entertaining blood fountains

For the most part I was very entertained by the bizarre atmosphere and blood fountains. It's a nice doze of insanity that is so over the top you can enjoy without remorse. After a while though, it did get a bit pointless and clueless.

Perfectly fine but not so subtle group dynamics in space

It seems reasonable to deem it "Lord of the flies" in space, and I see no shame in it. I liked it. It's just that the emergence of the 'bad group' seemed forced and rushed. It would have been more interesting if they had genuine and reasonable different views instead of just being jerks.

Appealing forbidden fruit, but did not fill me up

I dig this strange word, including the body horror and filth, simply as break from the mainstream. But I did not find it really engaging. Perhaps because we are simply thrown into the weirdness without a narrative, but more importantly the characters themselves seemed apathetic about it too.

Succesfull action silliness for adults

Sure it's over the top silly. But there's something right about this movie. It doesn't claim to be more than it is, some of the action is just plain cool, and it has the right amount of violence and gloominess to prevent you from feeling like you're watching PowerRangers.

A pleasant fix of gloomy weirdness

I wonder if it's just because of the black and white that it reminded me of Eraserhead? Or was it also the sweaty claustrophobic cinematography, the insanity and otherworldlyness of it all? Who knows. It's a cult niche thing, but a worthy one for sure.

A bizarre and painfull plan. But will it work?

A rather sad movie with a lot of blood, suffering and necrophilia that provides an uncomfortable watch. The gun woman, however, does manage to drag you into the story, and make you anxious to see whether it all works out as planned.

A lesser but stilll adequate episode

Not as epic and overwhelming as the preceding parts, in part because of the rather dull main characters. Still, there's plenty of Terminator goodness in here to have a good time. Average actionmovies back then still were more fun than the soulless fx bonanzas we get nowadays.

Decent

A decent looking and interesting story with plot twists that, while not completely unexpected, keep things interesting. After a while it started to drag a bit, and I found the visitor so unpleasant and annoying that, instead of sympathizing with her, I wished mother would have gotten rid her.

Solid

A somewhat uncomfortable mix of blood spills and goofy humor degrade this otherwise solid and gun fun action movie.

Freaks!

Smooth, sparkling and good looking entertainment. But these mutants and their adventures are stereotypes by definition, that won't lock in emotionally. I also thought Wolverine was out of place as the sensible mediator trying to get people to change their ways.

An over the top spy story with a cool sauce

With 80s music and a Berlin-wall zeitgeist, this movie has really cool atmosphere. I must also mention the extraordinary single-shot fighting scene (alas with not so convincing fighting). However, the typical, over complex, spy nonsense and her infinite skills and grasp were too much for me.
